"W-What?" I asked him.
"Well, not the first to come out, some identifies themselves as 'bisexual' and some, well a lot, are closeted. While I, a Slytherin, has decided to come out as the first gay student," he said proudly, and gave a cute 'evil laugh'.
Wait, did I say "cute"?
"Oh," was all I said to him.
The ride there wasn't as awkward as I thought. Turns out, they were looking for students with different houses. Kevin was Slytherin, Alexander was Ravenclaw and Michael was in Gryffindor, forming some kind of gang.
My dad told me about the Houses, of course, with permission from the Headmistress, Professor McGonagall, and told me the basics of the houses and the Sorting Hat.
"… So, if you would be Hufflepuff, it would be so much better," Alexander said.
"O-Okay," I replied.
Hagrid, the game keeper of Hogwarts, led me towards the boat. Since technically, I'm still a first year.
When we got to land, the kids ran towards the courtyard and to the stairs where a man in black suit and a robe waited in front of two big, wooden doors.
"Good evening children, my name is Professor Longbottom," he introduced. He said the same thing my dad did. We will sit on a chair, we let the sorting hat sit on top of our heads and we then have our houses.
The doors opened, revealing four long, like really long, tables. Candles were floating above, lighting up the room with a display of the skies and beautiful glimmering stars. Professor Longbottom led us towards the front. Up to the wooden planks where a stool sat on.
Behind it, was a long desk where professors sat. A few I'd recognize due to my parents' work. Well, they work with other people a lot.
A woman, which as I recall from the photographs, was Professor McGonagall, cleared her throat, "Good evening children. Some announcements, Mr. Reymaund, our caretaker, would love for you not to go towards the second floor back corridor if you would love to keep your heads attached to your body and also, I would love to welcome our new defense against the dark arts teacher, the none other than, Mister- no, Professor Harry Potter," everyone applaud as a man in glasses stood up and waved.
"Now, tonight, we are here to welcome our first years, and one special fifth year," she nodded her head in my direction and smiled. I felt everyone's gaze on me, "While it's not rare for a student from Hogwarts to transfer to other schools, it is however, rare for a student outside transfer here. Let us welcome him, together with the first years with joyous and of course, openhearted hearts."
After Professor McGonagall's speech, professor Longbottom let us be sorted.
"Anais Johnson." A blonde girl with a pig's tail-styled hair sat on the chair.
"Mmmm. Gryffindor!" the sorting hat announced. The Gryffindor table went ballistic with hollers and claps and cheers.
"Kenneth Hershie Cowell-Reynolds," Professor Longbottom called out.
I gave out a deep gulp before walking towards the dark wooden stage. The room went silent. I mean, how can it not? A 15-year-old boy is just being sorted into. I looked up the professors, they all gave me a warm smile which boosted my confidence a bit.
One particular professor gave a toothy grin. It was the Boy, now Man, Who Lived. Twice. "You can do it," he mouthed. I gave him a nod and a smile.
When I sat on the stool, I spot on Kevin. He gave me a smile and two thumbs up.
"Hmm. Quite talented," the Sorting Hat said, I felt his bottom twist to the left and to the right, and so did my head. "You do lack courage, but you are also quite smart as well… hmm."
The sorting hat took about two more minutes, just thinking. "What do you want?" he whispered loud enough for me to hear, but low enough to be inaudible to everyone else.
"Sir, I would personally want to be in Hufflepuff," I pleaded. Now that I think about it, what if my House doesn't want me? Oh, glob this is gonna be so embarrassing.
"Okay," he simply said. "Well then, Hufflepuff!"
No one cheered.
Oh, glob. Kill me now.
