Chapter 2. Drool

Gup Gup Gu-

"Drool?" Drool finished off the last drops of the one-liter milk sachet. He squeezed it harder, but nothing came out.

"Milk... yummy," Drool said with a resigned tone as he tossed the empty sachet onto the growing pile of garbage in the kitchen. From scattered cutlery to crumpled food packages, the kitchen looked like it was on the brink of a garbage crisis.

"Not the wall!" I noticed the giant crack on the kitchen wall that exposed the interior to the streets. "I just painted the damn thing!"

With another belch, Drool reached into the fridge, which was missing its door. It was clear that he had broken it with his sheer strength, fueled by his lumpy mass and overwhelming aura of cursed energy.

"You son of a..." I was seething with frustration at Drool's complete disregard for anything but his own desires. "I said cut it out already!"

DROOOLLL...

"You'll pay for that! How dare you... My MILK!" My fists clenched as I marched toward the burly man, my anger fueling me. Despite his towering figure, I refused to be intimidated.

Driven by adrenaline and a burning desire for vengeance, I climbed onto Drool's back, wrapping my hands around his neck.

"Come here, you drooling monstrosity," I pulled with all my might, but he didn't even flinch.

"Drool?" He seemed oblivious to my efforts, his attention now fixated on the orange juice in the corner. "Juice..."

I watched in frustration as his lumpy hand reached for the juice sachet, considering more drastic measures to protect my fridge.

"Back off!" I shouted, pulling harder, but he remained unmoved.

"What are you made of? Iron?" My frustration boiled over into anger.

As his hand closed around the juice, I knew I had to act fast. I couldn't let him find the milk hidden behind the juice.

"Not this again," I maneuvered to face him, determined to stop him from reaching the juice.

"Get out of my house!" I shoved with all my strength, finally causing Drool to take a step back, his hands retreating.

"Drool?" He seemed to finally acknowledge me. "Human?"

"What?" His eerie reference to me as a human sent a shiver down my spine.

"Humans only dessert," He declared, and a spasm shot through my body, sending me flying from the fridge towards the kitchen door. I hit it hard, the impact knocking the wind out of me as I crumpled to the ground.

"Aahhckk..!" I groaned in pain, feeling the lingering effects of the cursed energy attack.

"Drooolll..." From my position on the floor, I heard his unsettling tone as he continued his quest to raid my fridge.

His reference to me as 'human' made me wonder about his nature. Was he a Sorcerer, or a Curse? Curses had a distinctive pale look, but Drool appeared as human as possible, if you ignored his burly form and ragged appearance.

"What does it matter if he is a Curse or a Sorcerer?" I asked myself as I struggled to a stand. "He's already invoked a serious fight."

"Special grade?" I wondered of Drool's level. "It can't be it. I just came from agreeing to becoming a sorcerer from an anonymous app. Who in there right mind would transition me immediately to fighting against a Special grade Curse?"

"So am I just pathetic and weak?" I recalled Drool whisking me away like a fly with his Cursed energy. "Nah. I'm the toughest kid in the block. I just wasn't prepared."

"Drool... Juice... yummy... yum," he was now repeating the devouring process with the juice.

"Damn it, Drool," I hissed, pushing myself up onto my elbows. "You think you can just waltz in here and take whatever you want? Not on my watch."

He turned his attention back to me, a twisted grin spreading across his face. "Human... only dessert."

"So, you're planning on eating me too, huh?" I found it easier to classify him as a Curse from his repeated statement. "Haven't you insulted me enough, you over-sized oaf!"

"Milk," he noticed the hidden milk sachet as he crumbled the juice package.

"Oh no you don't!" I spat, cursed energy coursing through my veins. It felt like a quick dose of adrenaline getting down to work in an instant.

My chest still ached from Drool's attack, but I ignored it as he broke the seal on the sachet. "You're gonna regret that!"

Frustrated, I lunged at him, fists clenched and bubbling with a new, vigorous energy.

Determined to stop him from devouring the last remaining milk sachet, I threw my first punch. It connected with Drool's side, causing him to stagger back slightly. It wasn't much, but it was enough to give me hope.

'What power!' I felt the incredible flow of cursed energy making my fist more effective than ever.

"You want a piece of me, Drool?" I shouted, snatching the milk sachet. "Come and get it!"

"Drool," he clenched his fists too, his eyes fixated on the milk sachet.

I took a moment to collect my thoughts. Drool was undeniably powerful - his attack had made that abundantly clear. But I couldn't afford to let fear consume me, especially not on my first day as a sorcerer.

With my heart pounding, I decided to test the capabilities of my punches.

"This one will exorcise you for sure," I swung a second fist at him, aiming for his midsection. The impact felt solid, but he barely flinched. It was like punching a brick wall.

"Not bad," I muttered, noting the minimal effect my punch had on him. "But let's see if you can handle a little more juice."

I clenched my fists harder, commanding more cursed energy to reinforce them. Determined, I landed another punch on Drool, but the effect was the same. He remained stubborn against my punch.

'I need to switch it up,' I reasoned.

I couldn't allow Drool to unleash another of his empowered cursed attacks. I needed to keep him distracted long enough to explore his weaknesses.

"Hey, Drool!" I called out, trying to draw his attention away from the milk sachet and forcing him into a brawl. "You think you're tough? Come on, let's see what you've got!"

'Provoke him until he loses sight of his edge,' that's one of the ways I always worn all my fights.

Drool turned his gaze back to me, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. "Human thinks he can fight against Drool?"

I nodded, trying to maintain a confident composure, my fists extended before me. "Yeah, that's right. I'm not afraid of you!"

DROOLING, he lunged at me, his fists aimed at my face. I dodged his punch, narrowly avoiding being hit.

"You ain't even fast enough!" I taunted, circling around him. "Is that all you've got? I expected more from someone who thinks he's tough!"

I was relieved to discover that his massive size didn't equate to speed. He moved as sluggishly as his bulk suggested.

His expression twisted with rage, his movements becoming more erratic. He swung at me again, but I managed to duck under his punch, feeling a rush of adrenaline.

"Huhoo...! You ain't even touched me, Drool!" I shouted, my voice filled with bravado. "You're nothing but a bully!"

'God forbid I get humbled,' I whispered at the back of my mind. 'I've got the edge so long as he doesn't switch it up to cursed telekinesis, or whatever.'

"Drool," Roaring in frustration, Drool's physical attacks became more frenzied, but slow to my keen eye. With each swing, I dodged and weaved, taunting him further while searching for a weak spot. But his body felt as hard as iron, and I didn't find any vulnerability yet.

"You're weak!" I continued, feeling a surge of confidence. "You can't even beat me in a fair fight!"

His frustration peaked, and he ceased his attempts to hit me. He abruptly returned to his boring form - a lack of excitement evident in his drooping shoulders and the dull glaze in his eyes. Saliva drooled from his mouth as he heaved, the stench of sweat and exertion filling the air. Glaring at me with a faint DROOOLL.., his breath was heavy and ragged, as if each word was a struggle to articulate.

'Oh shit,' I lamented. 'I might've taken things a bit too far.'

"Go on, try and hit me!" I challenged, the rush of excitement and fear making my voice tremble slightly. My muscles tensed as I danced around Drool, the sensation of the floor beneath my feet grounding me in the twist of the moment.

But he had broken from my mental game. Instead, he shifted to his cursed telekinesis (or whatever), his presence casting a palpable aura of danger that made my skin prickle with apprehension.

With a burst of speed, an immense streak of cursed energy shot from Drool's mouth toward me.

"SHIT!" I managed to dodge from below, at the last second, the powerful attack exploding through the walls of my house. The sound reverberated like thunder in my ears, rattling my bones as the shockwave sent splinters of wood flying through the air. The acrid smell of burning wood filled my nostrils.

"Yo! Brother! I thought you said I was dessert!" I complained out of fear as I felt the heat of the blast on my skin. "What are you trying to do, obliterate me out of existence?" My voice wavered with a mix of fear and frustration.

"DROOOOLLLL..." Drool finally let out his signature phrase easily, as if all his frustrations had been released in that one blast. Barely sparing me a glance, he walked away from me and back to the fridge, his quest for the milk still unresolved.

"Hey! We're not done here!" His absentmindedness only fueled my frustration, especially considering he had nearly turned me into minced meat. How on earth could he act like nothing was happening?

"Come back here, you milk-stealing oaf!" I wanted to lash out at him further, but the crunching of debris littered on the floor behind me alerted me to incoming hostilities.

I turned around to look.

"Are you a curse user by any chance?" I inquired of Drool as the sight before me gave me a chilling effect.

Before me stood an array of grotesque figures, each emitting an eerie aura of cursed energy. Some resembled small, twisted organisms with misshapen bodies and writhing tendrils, while others took on more insect-like forms with chitinous exoskeletons and twitching antennae. One creature resembled a bloated slug, its slimy skin oozing with a sickly pale glow, much like the rest of the Curses.

The air was heavy with the stench of decay, like the rot of long-forgotten corpses. The sound of their movements filled the house with unsettling crunches as they slithered, scuttled, and wriggled toward me. The spider-webbed cracks on the floors and walls creaked under their weight, adding to the sense of dread that washed over me.

"Great, just great," I muttered sarcastically, bracing myself for the impending confrontation.

Like hormones jerking up sharply through the heart, I felt the flow of cursed energy pumping to my fists and legs. A visible blue aura formed around my fists.

"There's no time to learn how to manifest, or master the Black Flash," I embraced the urgency of the situation as the Curses closed in. "All I gotta do is land raw, powerful, punches and kicks to save myself."

"Alright, you ugly bunch," I muttered as the curses started to attack "Let's dance."

With a sharp twist of my waist, I narrowly avoided the lunge of the nearest creature, its gnashing teeth missing me by mere inches. Seizing the opportunity, I landed a powerful blow to its soft, cushion-like dorsal area. The creature let out a frustrated screech as it contorted and writhed, unable to withstand the force of my exorcising blow.

Another cursed creature lunged at me with razor-sharp claws. I felt the rush of air as its claws grazed past my face, sending a shiver down my spine.

"Watch it!" I snapped, delivering a quick jab to its midsection. The creature let out a guttural cry, its form quivering with rage before dissipating into nothingness with a frustrated growl.

The onslaught continued, the frustration of the cursed creatures vibrating through the air like a tangible force. With each blow, I could feel the flow of cursed energy coursing to my fists, empowering me to push back against the tide of foes.

"Back off, you overgrown cockroach!" I yelled, delivering a well-aimed kick that sent another creature crashing into the wall with a satisfying crunch. It dissipated with a frustrated hiss, unable to withstand the force of my exorcising blow.

But the battle was only beginning as more curses closed in, their movements erratic and frenzied as they launched their attacks. I crashed around the kitchen counters as I tried weaving between them to create enough space for me to attack, defend, and dodge.

Meanwhile, Drool was busy dismantling the fridge in search of something more edible. He didn't look particularly intrigued by what was happening with me and the Curses. That only made me wonder if he had everything to do with them.

"I told you you're weak. You can't beat me in a fair fight so you decided to outsource," I shouted over to the burly man as I sidestepped unskillfully in an attempt to avoid the twisted limbs gnarling toward me. I sprained my ankle in the process, but swallowed in the pain with gritted teeth as the creature passed by, causing a rush of air.

Opportunistic, I countered with a swift punch to its abdomen. The curse let out a frustrated howl as it dissipated into thin air.

Drool didn't respond, but I didn't have the chance to scold him from remaining oblivious. He was seriously getting to my nerves for being so... indifferent.

With a sprained ankle, I failed to dodge a curse's attack as its gnarled claws slashed towards me. The pain shot through my leg as I stumbled backward, narrowly avoiding being terribly scarred by something irrelevant. But I couldn't afford to dwell on the pain. Not now.

"Damn it!" Gritting my teeth, I pushed through the discomfort, channeling my frustration into a powerful punch aimed directly at the curse's center mass. The impact was solid, and the curse let out a guttural cry before dissipating into nothingness.

I ducked beneath another curse's swipe, an insect-like creature, my ankle protesting with each movement, and retaliated with a swift kick to its side. The curse staggered backward, but before it could recover, I followed up with a barrage of punches until exorcism.

"You think you're so scary," I taunted the remaining curses in general arrogantly as I got the hang of the exorcism. "I've fought scarier monsters! (in video games)"

The battle was about to reach its climax, and the remaining curses didn't look like much of a match for me. Despite my exhaustion and the pain throbbing in my ankle, I steeled myself for the final push.

With a weary breath, I scanned the kitchen, taking in the twisted forms of the remaining curses. They were fewer now, but no less determined, their movements jerky and unpredictable as they closed in.

One of them, a grotesque amalgamation of limbs, lunged at me with a furious screech. I sidestepped its attack, feeling a sharp twinge in my ankle as I moved. Gritting my teeth, I countered with a swift punch to its midsection. The curse let out a frustrated howl as it dissipated into thin air.

The next curse, this one resembling a small twisted serpent with jagged teeth, slithered towards me, its eyes glowing with purple energy. I staggered backward, trying to put some distance between us, but my ankle protested with every step.

The serpent curse struck, its sharp teeth piercing into the bicep on my left leg.

"Fugggghh!" I gritted while forcing the pain to subside. I retaliated with a right kick to its side. The curse recoiled, but before it could recover, I stomped on it for a successful exorcism.

The last curse, a plateful mass of twisted flesh and sinew, lumbered towards me with indistinct noises. I could feel my muscles burning with fatigue, but I knew I had to finish this.

With a defiant shout, I launched myself at the final curse, my fist blazing with cursed energy. The last punch was satisfying as the curse shrieked before dissipating.

"Not bad for a rookie, huh?" I said, sinking onto the counter, my muscles pulsating with exhaustion. "Not bad at all."

Munch munch much...

The sound of Drool gobbling something new brought me back to the initial confrontation. The dude still looked like nothing else mattered in the entire world except for his stomach.

However, I wasn't in the mood for going back to quarreling with him just yet.

"Not the worst time in history for having breakfast," I remarked, reaching into my pocket and pulling out the dangling milk sachet. The cool liquid slid down my throat, offering a cooling effect to my heated body. I gulped its contents quickly, then belched lightly in satisfaction.

As I finished the milk, I felt a sense of rejuvenation wash over me, the calcium working its magic on my tired muscles. The exhaustion and pain began to fade at a steady pace.

The irony of it didn't escape me as I turned my attention to Drool. "Here I am, with an exhausted body next to someone who just declared me as dessert. What could be more bizarre?"

"Say, Drool," I addressed Drool and waited for him to pay me heed.

"Droool," Drool just continued munching from the crisps sachet.

"Hey, scumbag," I threw a piece of debris at Drool while anticipating a regretful retaliation from him. "I'm talking to you."

'Talk about poking the hornet's nest,' I felt a chill run down my spine. But this was my house, and the hornets had to go!

The piece of debris bounce off Drool's massive frame without so much as a glance from him. He continued munching, his attention solely focused on satisfying his insatiable hunger.

Drool finally turned his attention toward me, his eyes dull and indifferent. "Human talks too much."

The dismissive tone in his voice only fueled my anger. "You destroyed my kitchen, Drool! Are you planning on doing something about it, or are you just going to keep stuffing your face?"

"Kitchen... food... yummy," Drool muttered absentmindedly, reaching for another packet of snacks.

I couldn't believe his audacity. He had wreaked so much havoc in my home, and here he was, acting like it was just another day. My fists clenched, and I took a step forward, ready to exorcise him with all I had.

But before I could do anything, a loud crash echoed from the direction of the living room. I turned to see through the crevice as a cloud of dust billowing out, obscuring my view.

"What now?" I muttered, my thoughts racing with anticipation.

As the dust settled, a figure emerged from the debris, a twisted grin stretching beneath his iconic blindfold. Clad in a dark-blue attire, his hair as white as snow, he exuded an aura of authority and power that was unmistakable. Even without seeing his eyes, I could sense the weight of his presence and the respect he commanded.

"Well, well, well.. What do we have here?" he said, his voice dripping with genuine curiosity. "If it isn't the World Hunger."

I quivered with reverence, but my voice caught in my throat when I tried to call out his name.

"Can you see it?" The stranger's question was directed at me, evident from the way he spoke.

"Yes. I can see curses," I replied calmly, feeling the weight of his gaze upon me.

"Good," he said, his tone reminiscent of a teacher guiding a student. "At least you're aware of what you'll be running from."

"Sorry?" I asked, feeling a sense of unease growing within me.

"I want you to focus on the area around me," the stranger instructed, his words carrying an air of authority, seriousness, and urgency. "And before the curse finishes that last snack, I need you to run as fast as you can and get as close to me as possible."

"Or I'll be dessert," I filled in, feeling a surge of urgency as I started running.

I didn't need to think twice to follow the instructions of the Honored One.
