Kira and Herro successfully escaped the crows, and they landed safely inside the Military Base. Kira hurriedly carried Herro towards the Military Base's infirmary so Kira can dress his wounds and attend to his needs.
Herro blushed out of embarrassment because he was being carried like a princess by a woman who possesses a real princess's beauty.
The infirmary was not that far from where Kira parked the flying car, and they easily reached the place. Kira placed Herro in the bed carefully, unlike how she stuffed him carelessly inside the car.
When Herro adjusted himself in the bed where Kira placed him down, he said, "I don't need my wound to get dressed or anything since I only need to absorb a few zombies, and I'll be fine."
Kira, who was still grabbing some bandages and pain relievers, paused when she heard what Herro had said. She looked at him and replied, "Have you forgotten about the crows above the ground? Do you think we will be able to get out and find some zombies for you to absorb?"
"Ohhhhh! I forgot... sorry." Herro gave Kira an embarrassed sheepish smile. Kira continued what she is doing.
Herro realized how dumb his question is and he decided to close his eyes while waiting for Kira.
He couldn't move any part of his body because of the injuries he was suffering from the slap that the Queen of the crows gave him. After a minute of waiting, Kira returned to his side with the medical equipment needed for his first-aid treatment.
Herro knew that what would happen next will be really painful, but he was already a veteran of receiving pain, so he did not make a fuss about it.
Kira had bought many rolls of bandages, alcohol, a needle and sutures for closing his wounds, a bottle of sterilized water, and painkillers. She learned how to dress wounds since applying first-aid is also part of the survival training she undergoes before.
Kira inhaled a large amount of air and exhaled it deeply. Then she grabbed the bottle of sterilized water and used it to wash the wound of Herro's arm. Then she stitched it using the needle that was sterilized using alcohol and sutures. She continued repeating this with all the cuts in Herro's body.
After stitching all of his open wounds, she washed the shallow wounds with the sterilized water. She then bandaged his whole body so he won't be able to move it. After the treatment was done, Herro resembles a mummy from ancient Egypt.
Kira released a sigh of relief after she finished treating Herro's wounds and injuries. Then she pulled a bed towards Herro's bed and lied to it. She was exhausted not only physically but also mentally.
"Sorry..." Kira apologetically said towards Herro, who was lying on the other bed. She said it while staring at the white ceiling of the infirmary.
Herro was just staring at the ceiling. His body was tightly bandaged by Kira, resulting in his immobilization, leaving him no choice but to stare at the ceiling the whole time.
Kira waited for Herro's response with her apology. But after waiting for a couple of seconds, Herro was still silent and didn't give Kira a reply.
"I knew that I did something unpleasant to you. I left you behind and escaped alone to save my sorry ass. I understand if you don't want to talk because you're angry at me, but please listen to what I'm going to say." Kira felt dejected because she thought Herro was keeping silent. After all, he was angry, but she didn't realize that she bandaged his jaw, making him unable to talk.
Herro wanted to retaliate and tell Kira that he understood how she feels but since he could not talk, he decided to stay put and just listen to what Kira will say.
Kira waited again for some for Herro's response, but she got none. She sighed and decided to tell Herro her story.
"After the Mutants appeared in this city, people started to evacuate and escape this place, and I am also one of those evacuees. I am still 16 at that time, and I escaped along with my close friends." Kira's eyes started to get watery after reminiscing about her past. Herro couldn't see any of these.
Kira wiped her eyes and continued Her story. "We were escaping at that time when a flock of crows appears from a distance. At first, we thought that it was just a black cloud. We were even fascinated by how black that cloud is. We even took pictures of it because we thought it is cool."
"But then, as time passed by, that certain cloud grew nearer towards us at a constant speed. Then that was the time that we discovered it was not a cloud but rather a flock of black and white crows."
"We didn't panic at all, but we've gotten a lot more excited and took more pictures of it. But when they were finally above us, our excitement had turned into despair. The crows started to attack the cars that were carrying the evacuees." Kira continuously wiped her teary eyes.
Herro was just silently listening to Kira's story, and that's actually obvious given his current situation.
Kira knew that Herro wouldn't respond to her, but she continued to tell him her story.
"I saw my close friends being carried by the crows as if they were a bunch of rats. The crows brought them to high altitudes. I heard their screams from fear were still ringing in my ears even though I was just reminiscing the past."
"After the crows brought them on a high altitude, the crow released their grip, and my friends fell helplessly. I saw everything with two eyes how their bodies were smashed on the ground as soon as they landed. The crows gave me this great trauma I am suffering. That is the reason why I acted that way."
"I'm still afraid, terrified. Whenever I hear a crows' caw, my body will turn cold from fear, and my rationality vanished in an instant, and I will run away panicky. This happens a couple of times every time I encounter these Devil's crows."
Tears slowly flowed out of Kira's eyes. She couldn't help but cry from the fear that she was holding towards the crows after she saw how viciously they died in the grasp of the crows.
"I survived the great disaster that fell upon us, but I don't feel happy even just a single bit. Because if I feel any happiness at that time, I would really hate myself. They died instead of me, the crows could pick me at that time, but they were the unlucky ones chosen to be their prey. If I feel any happiness because I survived, it will look like I'm happy for their misfortune."
"I don't want to feel that way! I still feel that they died for my sake. I'm trying to move on, but every time I see that flock of crows, everything that happened back then flooded my mind causing me to be irrational."
Kira was sobbing as she tells her story to Herro. Herro wanted to comfort her, but since he was restricted by the bandages wrapped in his body, he didn't have any choice but to listen to her sobbing silently.
Kira continued to cry, and Herro was just listening to her. She wiped her tears and decided to stand up from lying down in the bed. "I'll walk outside to calm myself down. I will come back after a minute."
Kira waited for a response, but Herro was still silent, and she concluded that he was still holding a grudge towards her, and she decided to walk out.
Herro was placed in a tight spot because he was being misunderstood. But he could do nothing because of the injuries that he was suffering throughout his body.
Herro was really exhausted with his fight with the crows, and the stress in his body was also great, making him feel tired and wanted to sleep. He closed his eyes and then he fell asleep suddenly.
Kira was still crying as she slowly walks outside. The fear in her heart and the regret of leaving Herro behind so she could escape are making her heart feel in pain and making her cry like a child.
The trauma was still there, and it won't vanish easily like how a bubble pop a couple of seconds after it was made. After crying for some time, Kira decided to cook some food for herself. After she ate, she decided to sleep at the infirmary.
When she came back to the infirmary, she saw that Herro was already sleeping there peacefully. She decided to sleep on the bed beside him so she could attend to his needs anytime.
Not long after she closed her eyes, she also fell asleep. She was also quite exhausted from running and using her ability to escape.
Both of them slept in the afternoon and woke up the next day.
