INIKPI AND OTHER STORIES
Inikpi is the story of a princess who offered her life as a sacrifice to the gods so her people, the Igala, can defeat their age-old formidable foes—the Jukun and Benin warriors.
Ogbadu, the son of the war chief, who had earlier rescued Princess Inikpi from some Jukun invaders and had fallen in love with her in the process, would have none of Inikpi's decision to be buried alive. He attempts to persuade her to run away with him but fails.
His next decision will immortalize the both of them forever.
The second story, EMBERS, is the account of a young lady, Ibiene, who falls blindly in love with a cult leader because of material gifts despite the warnings from friends and family members. The story showcases the rich culture of the Okrika people in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria.
The last story is 'The Autobiography of Ogbuefi Akukalia', in which a fictional but arrogant Chief Akukalia decides to write his autobiography without any regard whatsoever to the rules guiding this type of writing. It was shortlisted for the Gover Story Prize by Best New Writing, United States of America, in 2018.
