Chapter 21: Goodbye

The group came out only to see David being shot by soldiers. They didn't know what was going on.

"Stop," Captain Menes said, looking at the scene in front of him. He was reminded of his fallen comrades, so he started shouting.

It was very loud, but it was to no avail. The sound from the guns was too much, and nobody here could hear him.

All but David and Armstrong - as people who were awakened, their sense of hearing is a lot more sensitive than normal people.

"David is trying to rebel. He tried to attack the stationed soldiers, but he didn't know that they would be able to react in time," Armstrong said. He had not expected David to leave this soon, so he didn't have enough time to make a better excuse.

David wanted to explain, but he still had to dodge all the bullets coming at him.

"Sir, I may have known David for a short period of time, but within that time, we fought life and death situations together," Menes said. "So, I think this is a misunderstanding, and I hope you can make them stop shooting."

Menes was extremely worried about David, so he wanted them to stop shooting.

"So you don't believe me?" Tony asked.

"I do, but David isn't that kind of person. He is the one who fought the monster even though he could have just left."

While they were talking, David was moving closer to the soldiers while the bullets were getting harder to block.

When David reached the soldiers, his eyes started to change. Instead of the usual red eyes, this time they turned black.

He kept inching closer, and his eyes kept turning blacker, and finally, he arrived near one of the soldiers.

"Die," he suddenly shouted and pounced forward like a tiger. The blade in his hand slashed out, instantly tearing the soldier and his gun into pieces. Before the others could react, he pounced on the next one.

In a second, he was beheaded.

"Be careful," the soldiers immediately moved away from David but had trouble shooting him as he was too close to them.

Menes and Armstrong were originally arguing, but then they stopped after not hearing any gunshots. They turned to see the others just looking ahead with shock. They saw David beheading a soldier.

"I told you he was evil," Armstrong told Captain Menes and rushed at David. He couldn't allow him to kill anymore.

"The major is coming," the soldiers saw Mr. Armstrong and let down their guard. Taking that opportunity, David cut another soldier in half.

"Back away," Armstrong started shouting at them and then moved even faster. They all obeyed and ran backward.

Seeing this, David didn't stop any of them but charged at Armstrong.

"Huhh," Armstrong was taken aback but he still charged, and David continued charging but he sheathed his blade.

"Thump!"

The dull sound of exchanging blows was heard as David and Armstrong's fists met.

David's strike was filled with rage, and he spared no effort in punching him.

Caught off guard by the strength of the punch, Armstrong flew backward and hit the wall with a bang.

Armstrong's face twisted in pain as he turned to look at David, his eyes widened.

"I knew he was stronger than me, but I never thought it would be this much."

As David was about to attack him, the group came and blocked him.

"David, stop. You have already killed enough."

The group could no longer recognize that silent guy with this monster who took life without abandon.

David turned to look at them, and then they saw his black eyes - they were like two little black holes.

"This is all a misunderstanding. Let's stop," Tony said, but the look in his eyes didn't change.

"David, I once asked you if God exists. If he does exist, would he like what you are doing right now?"

The other speeches didn't work, but this one started causing his eyes to turn back to normal, and he looked at them.

"Will you come with me?"

David, whether with a clear mind or not, was not going to stay here.

"I have a duty to protect the country. Sorry, but I can't go with you."

Peter and Menes were determined to stay and help the citizens.

"I want to follow you, but I am needed here," Stephany said. She knew she was a burden, and her true worth was her intelligence.

"I have brought Stephany back to a base, and my work is completed. I have decided to go on my own journey," Tony's answer was shocking. They had never thought that he would actually choose to go on his own.

"We will follow David."

The remaining survivors of the fight with the advanced zombie chose to follow David.

"So this is it, huh?"

"This is when we go our separate ways."

"Yeah."
