By noon, after practicing magic for several hours, Leo finally stopped casting spells and returned to the dining room to eat and replenish his energy.
In this world, wizards don't have to worry about something like running out of mana. As long as they want to, they can continue casting spells indefinitely.
The power of a spell depends primarily on factors such as the wizard's understanding of magical principles, the proficiency with which they cast the spell, and the maximum amount of magical energy they can channel when casting it.
For example, a typical wizard casting a Fire-Making Charm would produce a small flame, while someone like Dumbledore could create an entire inferno with the same spell.
To Leo, a wizard's bloodline functions like a magical converter. When a wizard casts a spell, they absorb energy from the air, convert it into magical power, and release it. As long as they keep casting spells, they keep converting energy into magic.
So, under normal circumstances, a wizard can continuously cast spells without running out of magical energy. The only fatigue they experience is physical and mental.
This is different from a ninja's chakra. For ninjas, chakra is created by converting their physical and mental energy into chakra, which is then used to perform jutsu. If they exhaust their physical and mental energy, they can no longer perform jutsu, and overuse of chakra can even lead to death.
This is why techniques like the Shadow Clone Jutsu are classified as forbidden jutsu—creating too many clones consumes an enormous amount of chakra. Ninjas with low chakra reserves might even die from overexertion.
Kakashi, for example, struggled in battle because he had to constantly supply chakra to his implanted Mangekyō Sharingan, which wasn't originally his.
Of course, both ninjutsu and magic have their own advantages and disadvantages.
The advantage of ninjutsu is that even in a completely energy-depleted environment, a ninja can still fight by drawing on their physical and mental energy. The advantage of magic, on the other hand, is that as long as there is external energy to draw from, a wizard's bloodline can continuously convert it into magic, allowing them to keep casting spells without worrying about running out of magical energy.
Some wizards are able to convert magical energy faster and in greater quantities because they have a deeper understanding of magic and their own bloodline. These wizards can cast more powerful spells and deliver stronger magical attacks in a duel.
Fortunately, Leo possesses both abilities, so he doesn't have to worry about their disadvantages—he only needs to focus on maximizing their strengths.
After lunch, he continued practicing magic in the afternoon, and in the evenings, he studied various magical texts, delving into advanced magical knowledge.
In this way, another month passed.
On November 16, 1926, in the basement of the Fawley family estate, Leo pointed his wand at the half-dead man in a suit and cast a spell:
"Obliviate, False Memory Charm!"
The Obliviate and False Memory Charm hit the man one after the other.
Moments later, Leo asked the man:
"What's your name? Where do you live? What do you do?"
"My name is Li Erzhu. I live in New York and am a professional pig farmer. Who are you? Where am I?"
The man in the suit looked confused for a moment before suddenly turning to Leo in terror.
"Looks like it worked—Obliviate!"
Satisfied that the man had indeed forgotten his original memories and responded with the false ones he had implanted, Leo nodded approvingly. He then cast another Obliviate to put the man in a stupor.
After all this time and with daily practice using these Muggles, Leo had finally mastered most of the magic that Tom Fawley knew and even learned some additional spells.
In terms of raw magical power, he could now outperform Tom Fawley in certain areas. And that was just when using Tom's wand—if he used the Elder Wand from his task space, his magic would be even more potent.
A wand acts as a magical amplifier; it's not essential for casting spells, but without it, you need a deep understanding of magic and your own magical bloodline to perform wandless magic. Therefore, those who can cast spells without a wand are considered true masters in the wizarding world.
A wand that is well-suited to a wizard's bloodline will amplify the magic even more. And a legendary wand like the Elder Wand provides an even stronger boost. The weaker the wizard, the more they benefit from using the Elder Wand because it compensates for their inability to efficiently convert magical energy.
However, for truly powerful wizards who have already developed their bloodline to its fullest potential, the boost provided by the Elder Wand becomes less significant.
That's why, despite Grindelwald wielding the Elder Wand, he still lost to Dumbledore. Perhaps there were emotional factors at play, or maybe Grindelwald held back, but the Elder Wand's boost was undoubtedly less pronounced for Grindelwald than it would have been for an average wizard.
Currently, when Leo casts the same spell using both the Elder Wand and Tom's wand, the Elder Wand provides at least a 50% increase in power compared to Tom's wand. If Grindelwald's magical power had been boosted by 50%, he certainly wouldn't have lost to Dumbledore.
"I wonder if Grindelwald still has the Elder Wand."
Looking at the Elder Wand in his hand, Leo was deeply curious.
He had obtained the Elder Wand as a mission reward in the Marvel universe. If Grindelwald still had the Elder Wand, it would mean that the one he possessed was a replica created by the task panel. If Grindelwald's wand had disappeared, then the Elder Wand in Leo's hand was undoubtedly the real one.
In the grand scheme of things, this question was both significant and insignificant.
If it were the first case, it would mean the task panel could create objects out of thin air. If it were the second, it would suggest that all his mission rewards were actually sourced from other worlds.
"Well, no point in dwelling on it now."
Stowing the Elder Wand and taking out Tom's wand, he once again cast a spell:
"Apparate!"
With a series of crackling noises like firecrackers, his figure vanished from the basement.
In the nearly deserted streets of Diagon Alley at night, Leo appeared, pulling up his wizard hood as he walked toward Knockturn Alley.
Why had he come to Knockturn Alley so late? Was he about to engage in some illegal magical trade?
Certainly not.
He intended to take advantage of the darkness and see if he could discreetly capture a dark wizard from Knockturn Alley to take back with him.
