Long Time Enemy

There was silence for a while.

"I am not being an ass. I am just being realistic. Knowing what he looks like will not change the fact that he died before we could get to know him. He is in our past and right now, we make sure he remains there. We are both grown ups and it's time for mom to get a life aside us and I believe bringing dad's memory back will not help so let's just forget what he looks like and who looks like him and get mom going on her date already"

Mitchell had her mouth wide open in astonishment. I bet you, she was not expecting Michael to act like this means nothing. Like me, I was expecting something like shock or surprise or even both but here he is playing cool like Zain doesn't matter. And it worries me, how will he feel when he gets to know that his dad is very much alive and that I lied to them about it.

"Michael, you are unbelievable. This might not mean anything to you, it does to me and I am going to keep this picture to myself. You know what I will do every morning?"

Mitchell took a deep breath then looked him straight in the eye,"I will say good morning to him and tell him how my night went and my wish that he was here with us."

I felt my eyes stinged and looked away. The hurt in her eyes was something I don't want to keep seeing. She pretends to be okay like me but deep down, she is not.

"Mitchell, get a life. Who cares what you do with that picture? Dad isn't here and he will never be. Don't be surprise that you will be getting a new dad soon"

He scoffed and my heart twitched. I slowly sat down, feeling helpless. There was nothing I could do to help the situation.

"I don't know why ladies waste time daydreaming. As if your dad is here, he would have made a difference"

He mumbled walking towards my bed. He got the bed and threw himself on it carelessly. Mitchell had her fist into a ball. She was raging and if I don't do something both of them will end up fighting this night and if that happens, my date might be impossible to go.

  "Mitchell"

I calmly called and she turned towards me.

"Your brother doesn't mean any of it. You know Michael so well, he says the opposite of what he feels"

She released her fist and forced a smile,"I know mom. I just wish I can beat some senses into his head"

  Michael chuckled,"In your dreams, Sis"

Mitchell launched towards him and I leaped to my feet, grabbing her before she could make it to the bed where Michael is lying. Michael wasn't helping matters with the constant smirk on his face. He was truly enjoying the whole drama.

"Mom, leave her. Let's see if she has the strength to beat me up"

I glared at Michael and forced Mitch to sit down.

"Michael, enough already. You both have to stop being at each other's neck. It's okay to disagree. Being twins doesn't mean you will share the same view, likes or even agree on anything. Mitchell is allow to express herself same as you"

"Mom, stop preaching and go to your date"

I blinked severally and look at Michael who is sitting straight now and wearing that serious expression.

"It was a joke, mom. Chill out. No need to take offense. What I meant is, you will go late if you keep talking about this. You know how Mitchell and I roll. It's twins thing and you have got to understand, right sister?"

He grinned, giving Mitchell a charm smile. Mitchell's angered dissolved and she smiled. I am was relieved that the fight was over before it started. One day, they will give me a heartache with this fighting every time of theirs.

"Alright, I will leave now. I believe you two can take care of yourself before I return"

  "Sure we will"

Both Said.

 "Have fun "

Michael winked and Mitchell and I exchanged glances then we burst out laughing.

  "See you both later"

I said walking out.

"Mom, be careful"

Mitchell yelled after me.

"I will my darling, your momma is a careful woman"

The moment I closed the door, I sighed, exhaling out some air and taking back a lot.

Harrison has sent his escort and they have been here as earlier as 7:30. Miss Setory will have to pass the night here today. I know Michael and Mitchell are old enough but I don't have the courage to leave them all by themselves. They might start an argument and will need someone to stop it from escalating. And also, Harrison might try what he knows how to do best, although if he wants, not me or miss Setory will stop him.

I walked out of the house with my head held high. The night breeze blew gently and my hair danced around me. Inhaling deeply, I relaxed as I breathed everything in. The air smelled like fresh earth after a spring rain and filled my lungs. I enjoyed that refreshing smell and wanted to savour it for as long as possible but I don't have the luxury of that. I have got a date waiting.

Composing myself, I walked towards the car waiting for me. It was time to go meet my long time enemy. I am surely looking forward to it.
