Chapter 13: A day to be remembered

Danilaey was having a hard time fixing her clothes and her makeup. Well, she doesn't know why she's doing that, especially since she's only having a friendly date with Lyxander. She's checking everything on her face and her clothes. She even sprayed her favorite perfume on her body.

Even if she's worried about Zharia being alone, she needs to trust her with this. Maybe trusting her was a good choice either way.

Lyxander was waiting for her in the school parking lot for almost 20 minutes. He's not patient, but when it comes to her, he's different. He also changed his clothes for their date.

He was taken aback by his date's appearance. She was only wearing a pink halter-neck dress paired with white flat sandals. Her dress highlights her beauty, which makes her shine more in his eyes.

"Can we go now?" Danilaey spoke awkwardly to him.

"Uh-uhm yes!"

He held his head up and opened the car door, preventing her from colliding with it. What a gentleman! Danilaey kind of likes it. Being a gentleman to Danilaey was an easy way to win her heart. Lyxander is doing a good job at it.

"So tell me, what is your preference when it comes to a woman?" She asked him while still driving.

Lyxander thought about it. He doesn't know either. Likewise, he always looked ahead to his mom. The way she takes care of his father and his older sister was making him want a woman just like her. She appreciates his mother's kindness and concern for them.

"I just want a woman just like my mom." he said, smiling while remembering his mom.

"Wow! You really loved your mom, don't you?"

"Yes! Very much!"

The tender love of a mother is the only thing that can't be replaced in the world. His mother always tells him that every day. Her mother also told him that someday he will find a woman who will love him even if he is the worst person in the world.

"How is she?" Danilaey also remembers her mom. Since birth, she has had only one best friend.

Lyxander's smile suddenly disappeared.

"She's dead!" he said, trying to restrain his tears.

He comes to a complete stop and grips the steering wheel tightly. Danilaey has become guilty of starting that kind of conversation with him. She shouldn't do that.

"I'm sorry!" she just said.

She's patting his back, trying to calm him. He's crying in front of her. She can deal with a woman crying in front of her, but not with a man. It's hurting her more to see him like that.

"It's fine. It's just that all my memories of my mother just popped into my mind, and it's hurting me a lot when I remember her."

"It's okay! I'm here; just let it all out!" Danilaey continued to reassure him.

All of it was a flashback for him. The pain that still lives inside of him keeps him awake all night. The only reason he doesn't have the courage to date a girl is that he's blaming himself for what happened to his mother.

"I'm the reason she died that night." His tears just keep on streaming into his eyes.

Danilaey just let him bring out all his emotions for her. She's just listening to him. She admired Lyxander for being so open to her and for being strong in his situation.

"If it weren't for me, I'd still hug her every day and say that I'm very thankful to her and that I really love her. It was all my fault!" Danilaey also cries. His emotion is driving her to become emotional too.

Lyxander still remembers everything about when his mother died. He was still a child when she passed away.

Flashback~

It was their bonding time that night; they all dressed up. Lyxander feels that he has the luckiest family ever. Even if his parents were too busy with their business, they still found time for them to be together. They will go to their favorite place, an amusement park.

"Let's go, mom, dad!" Lyxander said it with so much excitement in his voice.

They all just laughed at him. He never gets tired of going to the amusement park. When they arrived, he immediately got out of the car, pulling his parents' hands. He wants to ride all of the fairground rides in the amusement park, while his older sister wants only the food there. Laughter is all you can hear from them.

"Mom, I'm going to the restroom." Lyxander said.

"Do you want me to go with you?" his mom gently spoke to him.

"No, mom. I'm a man now!" He proudly stated.

"Oh, really? A little man, you should say!" His sister teased him. They're always like that.

Lyxander just glared at her before he went to the restroom. He was annoyed by his sister's teasing, but she is also a very caring sister to him.

When he finished peeing, he went out of the restroom, but someone was following him. He was frightened and started making his way as fast as he could. He wishes that she would allow his mother to go with him. His heart was beating abnormally.

"Here's the little man!" His sister said from afar.

The man gets the knife from his pocket and tries to stab him, but her mother hugs him, and she was the one being stabbed. The man panicked, and he ran away to that scene.

"Are you all right, my little man?" His mother's voice was cracking.

Lyxander can't understand what's happening to her mother. He just heard the cry of his father and sister calling his mother's name. As a child, he thought that maybe his mother ate too much sugar, and that's why her voice was cracking. But when he saw the knife in his mother's back, he started crying.

His father carries her mother to their car, and his sister carries him also. Lyxander was shaking, but his sister was hugging him as tightly as she could. He can't talk. They arrived at the hospital, and the two of them stayed in the waiting room.

"Dad, what happened? Please tell us that mom is okay! Please!"

His sister was begging for an answer when their father arrived at the waiting room. He was crying while hugging both of them. He doesn't know how to explain things to them. They're still kids.

"Y-you're mother was gone." he said.

Lyxander started crying. All of his tears went out of his little eyes. He was blaming himself for his mother's death. If he wasn't so dumb, his mother would still be alive.

Their father hugged them tightly. They're all crying in pain. Their light was disappearing from their lives, and they couldn't imagine how life would be without her.

Flashback ends ~

Danilaey was shocked to hear that from him. She knows him for his kindness and, at times, arrogance. He feels his pain at that moment. He is good at hiding his feelings.

"I'm always telling my father and sister that I'm okay, but the truth is, I'm not."

Every single night since his mother died, he has been sleepless. He only sleeps when he takes his sleeping pills. Since then, he has changed a lot. He never went to the amusement park again, and he never dated a woman. He's afraid that will happen again.

His sister went abroad to continue her studies, and his father was always at work. They rarely see each other as family, and it makes him sadder. He always tried to show the cheerful Lyxander to his friends, but when he's alone, he is drowning in his sadness.

"I'm sorry if I said those things to you." he apologized while wiping away his tears.

Danilaey smiled at him and held his hands.

"It's okay, you can share everything with me if that makes your feelings lighter. I'm your friend!" she said.

Lyxander was very thankful for her presence. It makes him forget everything about his past. Danilaey was a very kind person.

"Okay! We should go now. My drama makes me hungry." Lyxander said he was trying to make the mood better before he started the engine.

It was then that Danilaey felt her heart beating abnormally fast on her chest. Her instinct was telling her that something was wrong.

"What's wrong?" Lyxander asked.

"Could you please call Prince and ask if Sabrina was okay there?"

"Okay!" he said before he called Prince.

Her heart was killing her. It happened before when she and Sabrina left Zharia alone. No! She said to herself! She's praying that maybe she's okay!

"Prince said Sabrina was fine!" It hit her!

"Please, Lyxander, please. Please take me on the condo!" she pleaded. Her tears were slowly falling again.

Lyxander was freaking out too, but he still turned the car around and headed straight to their condo.

Danilaey immediately went out of the car and silently prayed that Zharia was all right. Lyxander was only following him. Her hands were shaking when she was entering their floor number on the elevator.

"Zharia, please be okay!"

Lyxander wants to know what is exactly happening to her, but her mouth is zipped. He's only following her until they reach their condo unit. She slowly opened the door and entered Zharia's room.

Danilaey slowly opened it, and there they saw Zharia. She was sitting on her bed with a knife in her hand. Lyxander was shocked by the sight. Her hand up to her wrist was full of scars. She slashed herself.

Danilaey's tears were flowing like a river when she saw her friend. Just like the other time, she slashed herself again. Her legs were becoming jelly, but Lyxander prevented him from falling.

Danilaey takes out her phone and dials Sabrina's number. When she answered, she cried a lot. Sabrina was also worried by the way she talked on the other line.

"Zharia is," she said just before her phone died.
