Imperator of Leveling

Staring at a shooting star crashing upon the center of the military installation was the last thing he saw after hearing the declaration of war between two superpowers. Afterward was none other than the gleaming radiance of a silver light that rendered his eyes blind while also melting his body into bloody goo. But even then, no regrets plagued his heart, only the feeling of relief and the weight fading from his shoulders. He thought he had died and became trapped in the void after death. Though, the lustrous light of consciousness illuminated the void. And his eyes slowly opened upon the rumbling of a thunderclap. An old and shaken voice then sounded out from the rumbling dark. "Hey, you. You're finally awake." Unexpectedly, he was reincarnated into a new world, A reality where the supposedly improbable became possible. Whether it be flying islands, giant monsters, massive airships, superpowers, and many more, nothing seems impossible in this world. So with the combined knowledge from his past and current life, Will he reach heights he never thought he could stand on? Will he gain the power he never thought of getting? Will he become someone he never dreamed of becoming? This was the beginning of his long adventure as the Imperator of Leveling. Dante Regent Astarte.

Unexpected System

Dante, who was gazing at the dark bedroom, found himself flabbergasted as he was now staring at a vast flatland of emptiness. It was nothing but a wasteland of the void, and within this wasteland stood the dark figure who he had recently met in the dark bedroom.

The dark figure stood tall, higher than its form in the dark bedroom of the past memory. Dante looked at it with his head pointed upward to stare at the face of the nothingness that was the shadowy figure.

"T-That was unexpected."

"I never thought that I would get immediately teleported out of nowhere."

Dante remarked since he was a bit confused regarding what had happened.

The figure that called upon him tilted its head in confusion, wondering what he was trying to say. It then realized what it had done and apologized once again to Dante.

"It's okay, I was just astonished on the instant teleportation. That was the first time such a thing happened without me blacking out."

He replied, as typically he would lose consciousness before displacing into another location. This moment though was different. He saw the scenes before his eyes changed in an instant. It was his first time experiencing teleportation.

Dante wasn't sick or anything. He also wasn't tired, and the teleportation didn't affect him in a bad way. In any case, his confusion wasn't that special. It was simply a reaction of a first-timer.

"Other than that, where are we?"

He questioned while looking around to survey the surroundings. He was curious about the location he was in. The area seemed to be a flat plain of nothingness. It strongly resembled that of a wasteland, and such a location appeared to not exist within Dante's memories.

Was it a hidden memory deep within Dante's mind?

'Nah, this isn't a memory.'

He denied his words after looking up at the heavens.

A giant planet dwelled upon the vast night skies along with thousands of twinkling stars. It was broken into many fragments ranging from pebbles and dust to entire crusts of continents. Crimson flames and gas could be seen escaping from its unstable core.

Such a sight was also shrouded with a beautiful aurora.

The world from above was getting nearer and nearer to the one he was standing in.

Meaning that this wasn't the world, he got reincarnated in. It was something different, another world that must not have existed within his memories. This only points at the dark figure since it was the one that teleported him to this place.

The dark figure calmly replied with its distorted and ancient lady-like voice.

Touching the base of his neck, Dante wryly smiled as he asked a quite sensitive question. Asking for more information regarding a broken homeworld would be insensitive. Even he himself would rather not talk about his past, so he knew his boundaries.

'I guess I should continue talking about the system.'

He thought to himself while planning to change the current subject. He slowly walked towards the dark figure and stood before it. Looking at the shadowy figure directly with his eyes, he coolly suggested with a composed expression.

"Why don't we start talking about the system, Ms. Dark Figure."

Dante's suggestion had an honorific within it, seemingly considering the dark figure as a female one. It was one way to get closer and possibly break the barriers. The shadowy figure appeared to be a peaceful creature instead of a violent and hostile one.

"I see… So that's how the system works."

"I can choose to subdue and control the corpse I killed, or devour it to gain biomass and experience."

"Sounds like a fairly complicated system, and seems to be intriguing."

The edges of Dante's lips rosed as he found the recently gained information interesting. The system he would gain has features that would have taken a while to explore without the dark figure's explanation.

So with this in mind, he was a bit thankful that the shadowy figure was willing to explain. If it was thrown at him without any warning, then much harm could be done. And Dante wouldn't be able to use the system at its full efficiency.

"So what does biomass and experience do to my body?"

He continued the questioning, which the dark figure answered without delay and hesitation.

Dante's focused gaze could be seen since he was incredibly intrigued by the dark figure's words. The information regarding biomass and experience was extremely important. And their uses were information Dante really needed.

'Biomass are used to evolve subjugated minions or create new ones.'

'Experience can level up anything and can also increase my attribute.'

Such were the things he would gain if he devoured the ones he had killed. He would gain both experience and biomass as, fortunately, they weren't exclusive from each other. But in his first moments with the system, it might not be the best way.

Experience and biomass require stacked numbers to be used efficiently. If Dante couldn't reach such numbers, then the experience and biomass would simply stay there until he gains enough. But if he used conquer instead, he would have a chance to hunt more creatures.

'T-This is…'

Excitement wouldn't contain enough meaning to portray what he was feeling. This was like having your life turn around. Instead of hiding and slowly getting stronger in the misty path of power.

He would have a path before him with a clear foundation from behind.

"The system is great."

"Do you have more info?"

Dante wanted to ask for more information, but unfortunately, the dark figure shook its head and said in its distorted voice.

"What do you mean by that? Your time here is reaching to its end? Why?"

He was confused and didn't understand what the dark figure said. Shouldn't it be latching onto his soul? Why would it disappear when it already got the host it needed.

"Okay, I understand."

"So you have completed your mission, huh?"

Dante didn't expect the dark figure before him to be nothing but the caretaker of the system. It was the shadowy figure's duty for the system to have a next successor. Meaning that there were many owners of the system before him.

They might have come from other worlds with their own stories to tell.

It makes him wonder if his life was nothing more than a story to be told in the future.

'No need for such depressing thoughts, Dante.' He shook his head as depressive thoughts do nothing more but corrupt and leech upon one's spirit. The future wasn't his business to worry about, and it didn't matter if his story was one of the many others.

Dante looked at the dark figure for one last time and uttered his final question that goes beyond the last one.

"What is the name of the system."

"I'd like to know."

The dark figure gazed at him and replied.

*𝕴𝖙𝖘 𝖓𝖆𝖒𝖊 𝖎𝖘 𝕴𝖒𝖕𝖊𝖗𝖆𝖙𝖔𝖗.*

"Imperator?"

After uttering such words, everything in his sight disappeared as he blacked out from his consciousness. It took a while, but as he opened his eyelids, he found himself lying at the bottom of a bark with the rifle beside him.
