Ze Little Mouse

Hearing Jonathan's story, Aiden said. "I can't believe you've been through so much, but there's one thing I don't understand, you can check what properties your family left for you?"

"Em," Jonathan nodded before saying. "Yeah it's easy, all you have to do is go to the bureau, you know, it was because I had the chance to see what my parent's belongings were that I was able to confirm that my family was indeed the MCJays the problem is they disappeared a long time ago, around the time I was left with the foster care bureau."

Jonathan's words made Aiden furrow his brows in thought, he had never thought of checking the assets his family left behind.

Unlike Jonathan, Aiden knew his family, so he didn't need to know what they left behind in order to find them, but it wouldn't hurt to know what they did leave behind.

With that, Aiden decided to visit the foster care bureau one day.

Looking towards the car, Aiden asked Jonathan. "So you're saying I can have this car?"

"Yeah, it holds nothing more than sentimental value to me, besides I'm not giving it to you for free," Jonathan replied calmly, earning him a smile from Aiden.

Leaning on the vehicle, Aiden spoke. "Now, you're speaking my language." Saying this he tilted his head as he asked. "What do you want?"

"In exchange for my car I would like you to tell me more about your powers," Jonathan said before darting in. "But I know you won't tell me anything, so how about this, you owe me a favor I get to use at any time of my choosing, is that good?"

Aiden hesitated a bit, wondering if he should take the offer, and upon weighing the pros and cons he shrugged. "Your loss."

His nonchalant response made Jonathan chuckle before saying as he threw the car keys. "Catch!"

"Chink!"

The chime of the keys could be heard as Aiden caught them, smiling at the unexpected gift.

Seeing Aiden catch the keys, Jonathan walked out of the garage leaving Aiden to familiarize himself with the car.

Watching Jonathan walk away, Aiden couldn't help but think. "What a strange guy."

(A few hours later)

The sky was getting dimmer, like a torchlight almost out of power, but the bustling activity of Twilight City didn't change at all.

Cars rushed down the streets, vendors sold their goods, and a good number of civilians walked up and down the walkway.

Amidst these civilians was a youth with his hands in his pockets, he sported a hoodie with a hood so big it covered his hair.

One thing was visible through his hood though and that was his sparkling blue eyes, if Aiden was here he would recognize this person as the same hooded youth he'd seen in the enclave.

Suddenly, this youth turned a corner, walking into a dark alleyway and separating himself from the crowd of people.

In this alley, one could see a trashcan, some litter, and a metal door at the side of a building.

And without a word, the blue-eyed youth opened this metal door.

"Crank!"

The sound of a metallic creak could be heard as the youth opened this door, revealing a staircase.

These stairs led to different parts of the apparent building. As the blue-eyed youth ascended the staircase, he could hear a faint but unmistakable vibration in the air, almost like a low-frequency hum that resonated through the walls of the building.

"Hmm, hmm, hmm, chhh!"

It was an inaudible sound, yet it seemed to pulse with a chilling killing intent, that seemed familiar to the youth.

The staircase seemed to wind endlessly, branching off into various corridors and passageways, each leading to different parts of the labyrinthine apartment building.

And as the youth moved he started to smell the faint metallic smell of blood.

"Tap!"

"Tap!"

The sound of his steps could be heard as he moved glancing at the walls which were adorned with peeling paint and graffiti, while flickering fluorescent lights cast eerie shadows across the narrow halls.

As he continued his accents, the air grew colder and more oppressive, as if the very atmosphere of the building was weighing down on him.

Despite the chill, he pressed on, driven by an insatiable curiosity to uncover the secrets hidden within.

Finally, he reached the higher levels of the building, where the sound seemed to grow louder, pulsating with a strange intensity.

He found himself standing before a heavy wooden door, its surface marked with a single symbol an x that seemed to be drawn with human blood, a nauseating sight to behold.

Despite all this, the hooded youth, opened the door, revealing a room out of one's nightmares.

As he walked into the room, the first thing he noticed was a freshly dismembered arm. He could tell that it was fresh because it was still twitching, blood flowing out from the point of severance.

Looking around, one could see a normal living room, with a big sofa and chairs arranged to get a comfortable view of the TV.

If it wasn't for the tiny specs of blood here and there, this could actually be considered a family home.

"Ahhhhhh!"

A scream suddenly brought the youth's attention to the bedroom which he walked over to with large strides.

"Bam!"

He kicked the door open, revealing a sight that made him raise a brow.

The blinds were down casting the room into a realm of shadows, but the light that did shine through illuminated the room enough to reveal two innocent eyes looking over the shoulder of a man and staring at him with an expression of dread and horror.

The room was filled with blood, the nauseating smell of the substance filling the room.

On the reading table, next to the picture of a family of three laid the dismembered head of a woman, placed there like some ornament.

The rest of her body lay on the bed its form mission an arm, her dress, and bedsheets soiled by the very color that once flowed through her veins.

As the little girl looked towards the blue-eyed youth with trembling eyes, the silhouette over her rose, and the song that previously seemed like distant hummings suddenly became crystal clear.

"Slat!"

An odd sound could be heard as he removed something that seemed like a kitchen knife from the little girl's innards, watching her slump listlessly to the ground.

With that, the figure, walked into the light, humming a distant toon, and revealing himself to the blue-eyed youth who watched with nothing but an expressionless face.

This man had inky black hair, tied to a ponytail, along with a full beard, his eyes were brown and calm, but one could sense an undignified bloodlust in their depths giving him an aura of depth.

As this man walked past the blue-eyed youth, he didn't even acknowledge his presence as though he was the only one in the room, instead, he sang. "In ze land of baguettes and cheese, Lived a mouse named Maurice, oh please! He danced 'round the Eiffel Tower so high, Underneath the Parisian sky. With a twirl and a whirl, he sang his song-"

"Why did you call me here Le Serpent?" The blue-eyed youth interrupted the man called Le Serpent, his voice sounding irritated.

At the sound of the youth's voice, Le Serpent smiled and stopped, but just before he could say anything.

"Slash!"

The sound of a dagger tearing through the air sounded out as the blue-eyed youth moved severing the man's head before he could even react.

Strangely, there was no blood like one would expect, instead one could only see raw flesh, like the pinkish parts of washed meat, in the severed parts of the man.

Without a change in expression, the blue-eyed youth picked up Le Serpent's severed head, which strangely had a smile on its face.

Tilting his head, he quipped. "You should have at least sent me to your real body, you know I don't like talking to clones, now tell me, what am I here to do?"

The severed head smirked, a sight that would have been creepy for many, and after a short interval, he spoke. "Ze mouse is getting smarter. Ze next phase of your mission is simple, find out where ze page is, you have ten years, failure is not in the picture."

Hearing what the Le Serpent said, the blue-eyed youth narrowed his eyes. "You could have just told me that through our line, why did you have to make me come here?"

"So you'd see my work," the severed head replied immediately before darting in with a wide smile. "At this moment, there are five hundred clones scattered around ze city, mass murdering ze tainted sheep that bows to the filthy rule of ze Silence."

Hearing this, the blue-eyed youth glanced towards the room and said. "You should have least left the kids out of it."

Saying this he tossed the head to the side and walked out of the room, and as he did this he heard the sound of the severed head song echoing in the distant room, but it wasn't just that room.

"Click!"

"Click!"

The sound of a punch of doors being unlocked simultaneously could be heard, and as they opened the smell of blood became stronger.

Seeing this the blue-eyed youth remained unfazed, even as he watched multiple figures emerge from these open doors, some with specs of blood on them.

The creepy part of the whole thing was the fact that they all had the same appearance, black hair, a full beard, and brown eyes.

"Tap!"

"Tap!"

"Tap!"

As the blue-eyed youth, walked down, the multiple figures got to work, using their blood-stained hands to leave an x mark on the front door and as they did this they hummed the same rhyme.

"In ze land of baguettes and cheese, Lived a mouse named Maurice, oh please! He danced 'round the Eiffel Tower so high, Underneath the Parisian sky. With a twirl and a whirl, he sang his song."

"All the little mice would come along.

They'd skip and hop, oh so free,

In ze city of love, where they'd be."

"So remember, mon cheri, with all your might,

To dance through life, in ze morning light.

For like Maurice, you too can see,

Ze joy of living, wild and free!"
