A young man sat, leaning against the highest point in the world, the psilos, the tallest building in the world after the Apocalypse wreaked havoc in the world and brought humanity to extinction.
A near extinction that they cannot recover from. From that day on, the world turned to a group of elite scientists that tried to make the cure for those who got turned.
Did they succeed? Or did they fail?
The days of joining the missionaries, traveling the world, killing the undead creatures of his own creation. It seemed like yesterday...
He sat, staring into the darkness of the void, reconsidering all his life choices. The man heard the void call to him, he understood what it wanted. After all, he and the darkness was one and the same...
This is how it happened...

"What have we done?"
Several heavy sighs filled the room simultaneously. Ten male and female scientists sat on a chair, encircling the youth that lying on a bed. They had demoralized and disheartened expressions plastered on their faces.
"Is he dead?" asked one of the scientists as he stared at the child.
She didn't receive a response. The scientist looked at each member of The Augmentation Experiment scientists one by one. They all had one thing in common:
Their hearts were filled with fear and horror-stricken guilt. Some rested their heads on the table, tears rolling down their eyes. Arguments broke out about the further actions they should take. And so the thirteen-year-old teen, with slick black hair and chalk-white skin, was forgotten about.
"Of course he is dead!" a frustrated-looking man screamed. He had been watching the experiment play out. Of course, if he had a higher status, he would have stopped such horror from occurring. "I had told you from the very beginning!" he continued, slamming his hands into the wall with fury.
"You took the life of a harmless and innocent child and then you continue to bring the extinction of humanity!?" the man, whose name was David, continued to shout, eyes widened from the shock. He couldn't believe it was truly happening.
Upon hearing the unavoidable truth, two of the scientists, a man and a woman fainted. But it was not because of the words of the frustrated scientist. Their faces turned pale green as they fell, and their eyes crimson red and bulging. Their co-workers watched the blue veins pop out of their skin.
"It has already begun!" a middle-aged woman whispered, her breathing loud and uneven. She clung to a chair, her eyes began to go fuzzy. Not long after, she too collapsed. The others closed their eyes and the three fallen scientists writhed and struggled in excruciating pain. They made inarticulate sounds as the suffering finally stopped.
But a gurgling sound from one of the scientists made everyone freeze. They watched in terror as the female creature raised an arm. The inarticulate sound from before played over and over in the scientists' heads.
"F*CK! It's already happening?" asked a woman, backing into a corner. Her eyes never left the eyes of the creature as it stood up.
Only a few minutes had passed. The remaining scientists had anguish expressions on their faces. They knew they had brought humankind to its knees. Saving it was inexorable…
Some tried to run, but they fell, one by one until David and the eldest and wisest of the scientist was left. He was the one who had led the Augmentation Experiment. David saw deep sadness and regret in his eyes and his face started to have a tinge of green. David had tried to convince the leading scientist not to go through with the experiment but to no avail.
"I'm so sorry David, for everything…" he said, as the wretches surrounded them. David watched as the man's knees gave in and keeled over and died, a small but wholesome smile was on his wrinkled face.
David returned the smile, taking one last look at the youth, the final 'product' of the Augmentation Experiment, a medication that was supposed to turn someone into a superhuman and make humans the strongest beings in the universe.
But humans tried to play with the gods, and in the hands of the gods did they fail, creating an irreversible toxin that kills the weak, and anyone who survives gets turned into evil, blood-sucking creatures whose only mission is to kill.
David fell to his knees as each creature surrounded him, sharp fangs rising from inside their mouths. Serrated claws grew from their nails. They slashed at the man, who was screaming with a fix of pain and fear until the limbs were torn off…
As soon as David died, the creatures, who had exceptional hearing, far greater than humans, moved their attention towards the boy lying unconscious on the bed. The wretches made gurgling sounds as they shifted their gaze.
The creatures raised their arms as they moved closer and closer to the youth. But as soon as they stepped three meters distance, the boy started to glow bright gold. The creatures closed their eyes from the bright light.
