I became an NPC in The Great Tomb of Nazarick

This is an AU! In a world where Earth is dying and humanity struggles, virtual reality games, especially the VR game YGGDRASIL, provide an escape. Momonga, the leader of a powerful race in YGGDRASIL, remains online as the game faces shutdown. Alone, he reconnects with a comrade, Bukubukuchagama, before YGGDRASIL's closure. Meanwhile, in Nazarick's ninth-floor library, an androgynous character named Thoth, a trapped soul, anticipates freedom as the game ends. Upon the game's closure, Thoth gains control of his movements and discovers his angelic form. As Thoth explores his new abilities and surroundings, a mysterious world awaits beyond the virtual realm. With an enigmatic library, magical prowess, and a goal to adapt to the new world, Thoth embarks on an adventure, uncovering his true potential and encountering diverse characters within the Great Tomb of Nazarick. As the story unfolds, alliances, conflicts, and loyalty to the supreme one, Momonga, shape the fate of Nazarick and its inhabitants in this virtual-to-real fantasy journey. -x-x-x- I've only seen the anime, and have only read the later half of the LN (at which point, the story will be completely different anyway so it won't matter), so forgive any inaccuracies. Also, I don't know much about angel lore as an atheist, so I'm gonna be making up my own stuff. Hope you like the story and have a good one. Carnage Town

Everyone in Carne Town could be seen rushing about with determined steps, preparing to die protecting the city.

Not a single being within the city would flee from any danger. This is their sacred ground, the place chosen by the Gods, and they would never abandon it.

Enri and Nphirea along with the goblins reached the wall first, luckily, the wall was fully built on this side of the town, though it is still mere wood at the end of the day.

What they saw made them stop dead in their tracks.

A decently sized military contingent of well-equipped troops could be seen approaching the town, judging by their speed and distance, they would be here within 30 minutes.

Enri turned to her goblins with a determined expression.

"How many people are willing to fight?" (Enri)

The leader of the entire Goblin Troop answered, he could be seen with a large two-handed sword on his back alongside full plate armor that covered only his chest and stomach, leaving his head and arms naked.

"A vast majority of the folk have already armed themselves with whatever they could find." (Jugem)

Enri nodded, looking at the knights in the distance.

The armor certainly felt familiar, and while the soldiers were still far enough away for their nationality to remain unknown, Enri felt that their heresy had finally attracted the attention of a local noble or two.

After all, the locals have certainly not been quiet in their newfound faith, with their citizens going out of their way to try and convert all who passed by, not to mention those religious fanatics in the relatively newly established "Enlightened Order" state.

They, after renaming themselves again, have begun sending out agents and so-called adventurers. These are just soldiers sent to infiltrate the kingdom and force the people to pay the young state in return for requests by pushing out other adventurers and taking up quests.

Of course, almost none make it to the higher ranks as the Elf Kingdom and the Enlightened Order continue to clash, however, these lower-ranked adventurers have another function, which is to sow discord and hatred within the people of the Kingdom while also secretly preaching the glory of the 41 Supreme Beings.

Now, with the Order doing this and with Carne... Town being a rapidly growing hub for a large number of believers while also being considered their holy ground, it was only a matter of time until a few troops were sent to dispatch them.

Judging by the number of troops, which amounted to a total of 100 well-equipped men on horseback, this was a serious attempt to remove them without wasting too many resources, yet Enri felt no fear.

She is still nervous as all hell, after all, not too far away stands a large group of trained men determined to kill her and everyone she loves, but she has witnessed far scarier things in her short time on this planet.

With Death, Justice, angels, and their chosen on her side, she held no fear in her mind, instead, she almost felt pity for the invaders.

Almost.

She would feel bad if they didn't plan on stabbing her family to death with no mercy, or she assumed that was their intent anyway.

Either way, as she stared at the incoming force, Nphirea spoke up.

"You okay? I know you might be off considering what happened in the past..." (Nphirea)

Enri turned to him and smiled.

"Don't worry Nfi! I'm okay, just thinking about what to do next and all." (Enri)

Nphirea nodded and spoke up once more.

"I get that, but I'm here for you okay?" (Nphirea)

What progress the boy has made. Before he stuttered while even thinking of Enri, and now he can say such bold things confidently.

Truly, he has grown, though he is still, unfortunately, extremely maidens.

The rest of the group climbed up on top of the wall now, also looking at the knights.

"Any ideas as to what they desire here?" (Luna)

"To stab us to death probably." (Jugem)

"How grim." (Sol)

Everyone except Enri and Nphirea nodded at this. With Bard even giving a solid "Umu."

Nothing much could be done, so they waited for the next thirty minutes, with the commoners preparing their farming tools and any other items that could be used in their defense, including bows and a few swords they managed to get.

After roughly 20 minutes of waiting, Lupus approached Enri while the others were all busy, pulling her into a side street.

"Hey there En~!" (Lupus)

Enri, startled at first, quickly relaxed, seeing that Lupus pulled her aside.

Ah yes. Lupus is the one Enri trusted a lot. The same person who had to suppress the urge to rip Enri's arm off for the joy of it.

"Oh! Hey Lupus, is there something you need?" (Enri)

"Oh no not at all! I was just wondering, where do your parents live again? I need to make a report to Lord Ainz you see~" (Lupus)

"Oh! That's easy, they are right next to my house on the left." (Enri)

"Right... Your house is the biggest one right?" (Lupus)

Enri gave an awkward smile at that.

"Y-Yeah... It is..." (Enri)

With that, Lupus nodded and left, Enri unaware of the wicked grin that blossomed on her "friend's" face.

Suddenly Nphirea appeared and grabbed her hand, dragging her with him.

"C'mon Enri! They're already here!" (Nphirea)

Enri spoke as they ran, Nphirea already getting a bit out of breath while Enri was still perfectly fine.

"What? But we should still have a few minutes!" (Enri)

"I-*huff*- They were faster than we expected!" (Nphirea)

Enri then sped up, leaving poor Nphirea in the dust.

Enri reached the wooden wall where many men and women could be seen with pitchforks and other weapons, the atmosphere thick with zealous determination.

She climbed up, standing beside the angels whom she could not see as they made themselves invisible, and the prophets, who she could see.

All three of them stood side by side, staring at the knights as they approached.

Knight Alexander Frisvul Von Urqul POV:

Alexander, a fairly high-ranking knight within the "Order of the Arch" could be seen walking toward the unknown town ahead of them with confidence.

Their mission is simple, locate Carne Village and burn it to the ground.

It should be located just ahead of them, yet the place in front of them is no small and humble village.

They have received reports of the other local villages developing new Gods and openly worshiping them, this was initially dismissed as the Kingdom had greater problems at hand, however, this all changed when the Theocracy -now known as the Enlightened Order- suddenly had a civil war.

This by itself came as an immense shock, within a month, the most powerful human nation was flipped upside down by some so-called messenger of God, but it did not stop there.

When the new nation stabilized and established contact with the other powers, they then began preaching this nonsense to the good people of the Kingdom! And most mysteriously of all, the children all over the Kingdom seemed to be hard at work, spreading its tenants as far as they could.

When questioned, they did not budge an inch, not even when threatened with burning alive did they say a word. Now, if they heard of these things and spoke about them that would make sense, yet it seemed to be mostly these children who were responsible for spreading the word from the south.

Now, Alexander is no conspiracy theorist, yet he couldn't help but think that the movements of these children were very strange. It's as if they were all part of the same movement led by some hidden figure, yet it feels like whoever is doing this is in a hurry, why else would they make it so obvious?

That is why they have decided to act on their own, to send the heathens a clear message even the children will be forced to hear.

They would make it clear that no infidel would threaten the Kingdom, and no divine messenger could deny the king and his nobles.

Alexander and the troops marched up to the wall, and their commander, a blonde grizzled veteran with blue eyes and a large scar over his left eye, shouted at the six people on the wall.

"We are from the Kingdom! Please open the gate!" (Commander)

Enri looked down at the troops as Nphirea ran up next to her, sweaty as hell and completely out of breath.

With a shaky wave of her hand, Gaia made him recover within seconds.

Nphirea thanked her and looked down at the Commander.

"We'll do so right away, just give us a second!" (Nphirea)

He then motioned for everyone to walk down, which they did.

Enri looked at him and whispered with urgency.

"Why the hell did you do that!? They'll come inside now!" (Enri)

"No. I bought us time." Nphirea then turned to the Prophets, "Do you think we can get rid of all of them with your help?"

Luna nodded after a second of thinking.

"Yes, but we have not used any spells after our rebirth, the results may prove... Unpredictable." (Luna)

The zealous town folk listened in as the Goblins also gathered around, all curious as to what they should do next.

Nphirea stuttered slightly as he realized that he unintentionally started commanding everyone else, but he kept going despite his shy self.

"A-Alright, here is what I think we should do." (Nphirea)

The Commander almost shouted again but the door suddenly opened, showing Enri and Nphirea waiting to receive them inside.

Men! Forward-!" The Commander had his sentence cut short as a blade pierced his throat, Fighter appearing as his invisibility dropped.

The troops saw this, and as they let out a battle cry, the ground beneath them turned into a thick sludge of earth, making it impossible to move.

As Alexander looked up, he saw a blonde woman with blue eyes dressed in flowing robes looking down on them.

Then the temperature rapidly rose, his plate armor burning his skin.

Alexander struggled vehemently to rip it off, but then the ground hardened, his body now buried waste deep inside it.

As hundreds of townsfolk suddenly started pouring out of the gate, Alexander threw his weapon to the side and surrendered.

The townsfolk did not care, fueled by religious fury they continued to charge.

Alexander and the other knights struggled with all their might to get out, yet they failed.

The townsfolk stomped over the soldiers like mad bulls, the soldiers with blades stabbed by pitchforks.

Enri watched this unfold and ran outside, ignoring Nphirea calling out to her.

"Stop!" She shouted, yet her voice could not overpower the sounds of "battle coming from the area.

"[STOP!]" She shouted with more desperation, yet this time, she felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her as her voice overpowered all other sounds, soldier and commoner alike felt a shiver go up their spine as they all froze for but a moment.

Enri, her eyes heavy, spoke again.

"Don't... Kill them...!" "(Enri)

She then collapsed.

Nphirea ran over to her along with Jugem and Gaia, the latter casting a healing spell on Enri, yet she didn't wake up.

Gaia cast "[Detect Ailment]" as the townsfolk ran over to Enri, gathering around her, the soldiers took this opportunity to claw their way from the ground, running for their lives.

Gaia squinted her eyes as they began glowing green.

"What is it?" (Nphirea)

"...I-Its n-nothing?" (Gaia)

"Huh? What do you mean? She's clearly hurt by something!" (Nphirea)

Gaia flinched as Nphirea accidentally raised his voice, he quickly lowered it again, apologizing.

"Sorry..." (Nphirea)

"I-Its okay! B-But I think Enri used some kind of a-ability and it tired her out too much, h-her breathing is stable and so is her p-pulse..." (Gaia)

Nphirea let out a sigh of relief, and so did everyone else.

"Right, let's get her inside! Everyone!" Nphirea turned to the townsfolk, "We have to work hard so Enri can rest, go inside the town and return to your work!"

With a triumphant shout, they did as commanded, with the gang carrying Enri's body to her house.

Lupus watched this and smiled, sighing as she looked at the house in which Enri's parents lived.

"Haaahh... Oh well, I guess I'll have to enjoy myself later." (Lupus)

Sadly, as she was about to have her first bit of true fun in this shitty hamlet, she realized that she can't since hurting Enri's emotions by doing this is still hurting her, and she wouldn't dare risk angering Lord Ainz.

With that, she turned around and teleported away, informing Lord Ainz about what happened.
