In regards to Hinami's education, Ray decided that having Hinami hiding herself and attending normal school is impractical and might affect her negatively.
Thus, Ray decided to create one.
Yokai Academy is of course not something that exists in the DxD world. But to make it exist is just a matter of snapping his finger. However, to maintain and run the academy isn't.
For that reason, Ray followed Jack this time around to visit her friend, Kunou.
Who knew that Jack would already be acquainted with the Youkai. That made everything much more convenient.
As usual, Ophis follows the whim of her sister and opens a portal to Kyoto Great Shrine where the Youkai leader, Yasaka, lived. Who also is Kunou's mother.
"Jack!" An excited childish voice called out.
"Kunou!" Jack waved back excitedly but the Tengu guards and Kitsunes near Kunou already started to tremble at their legs, seeing the stabby demon had returned.
"Shit! I shouldn't have replaced my shift with that lucky bastard." A Tengu cursed silently, trying his best to stand upright to preserve his dignity as a guard.
Yasaka and her Kitsune handmaidens were watching in the distance.
Yasaka no longer felt wary of Jack and Ophis' presence since they had come to play with her Kunou many times. Jack genuinely is just enjoying having Kunou as playmate while Ophis is a silent observer that wouldn't interfere unless food is involved.
Yasaka is happy that Kunou has a friend to play around with and welcomes Jack to her residence.
"Alright, girls. Just remember not to leave the shrine without the Tengus or Kitsunes." Yasaka shouted at the two as Kunou eagerly dragged Jack away to play.
"Yes, mother!" "Yes, auntie Yasaka!" The two replied and vanished into the bamboo woods with the Tengus and Kitsunes assigned to watch over them.
Just as Yasaka is about to leave and return to her duty as the leader of Kyoto Youkai, a voice stopped her.
"Excuse me."
"Who?" Yasaka looked around and found no one until she searched properly and found a black cat that sat not far from Ophis, under a tree.
"A cat?" Yasaka wondered confusedly because Ray didn't feel like a Yokai or anything that she recognised as the matter of fact.
"Indeed. But not just a normal cat. I'm a talking black cat, a granter of wish and bringer of fortune to some. But also bad luck to some." Ray jumps off the boulder Ophis sits on and approaches Yasaka.
"I am also Jack and Ophis' father. An adoptive father if that is what you wonder." He added when seeing the confused look on Yasaka's face, wondering how a cat would be a father to Jack and Ophis.
Yasaka, who is about to take a defensive stance, immediately halted and sighed in relief after the introduction. But still look at Ray warily, mostly that stemmed from her duty as leader of the Yokai considering someone that can make Ophis acknowledge an adoption wouldn't be any common man. Or a common talking black cat.
Upon Ray's introduction as Jack and Ophis' father, Yasaka assumes Ray's purpose being here is to watch over Jack. But with how he introduced himself and how he approaches her, clearly that isn't the case.
To start, Yasaka knows absolutely nothing about Ray. She didn't even know how to address him. Should she be casual? Respectful? His mind is going into overdrive trying to think.
Considering Ray talked to her with a casual tone, should she do the same too? But would that be disrespectful considering anyone who can tame Ophis is probably strong enough to beat her. With that in mind and how she cannot recognise him at all, Yasaka figures Ray would perhaps be an ancient being not even gods know and that is a very possible estimation after all as there existed Pantheons that predated the still surviving ones and long forgotten in time. Or perhaps he was beyond the Gods, powerful beings that wander dimensions like Great Red. That is all within possibilities but Yasaka has little information to form her guesses.
"Don't overthink it." Ray interrupted her thoughts after her long silence which made him a little impatient.
"Although, your guess is correct. Also, yes. I can read your thoughts." He answered all her questions without her even asking or wanting to be answered.
Ignoring the shocked Yasaka, Ray turns his head and calls Ophis over to carry him. Ophis obediently put away her magical food dispensing pouch without any reluctance which she did have some times ago. But now she doesn't anymore and is pretty willing to do anything he asks, provided they are just simple tasks. Anything more than simple tasks require payment in the form of food upfront in most cases. Like that one time he asked her to destroy a few dozen major sects that the Holy Sons dared to fight over him for his favorite twin elf hostess at a brothel.
Yasaka becomes confused about their standing right now as Ray is carried by Ophis' head into the shrine. Normally, it's her that should welcome the guest to talk. But somehow that role had reversed without her even realizing.
Once they are seated in her office, Yasaka sends her handmaidens away to prepare refreshments for the guests.
"Alright, let's not beat around the bush. I came here with an offer. One that you definitely couldn't refuse." He said, definitely didn't come off as a threat. Yep, definitely not.
(That dumb ass cat.)
Yasaka immediately looks away but is also helpless. What else can she do? Ophis looks very obedient and follows his words. Even if he wanted to uproot Kyoto and flip it around, there's nothing she could do and pray for her people's survival.
So. Grimly, Yasaka listens to what Ray has for her and hopes it's nothing bad since she still didn't have a good gauge at his character but from how he treated his adaptive daughters, he didn't look like a bad person.
"Basically, I want to establish a school. Not a normal school, mind you. But a school for non-human which shall be called Yokai Academy for obvious reasons."
So far, Yasaka has yet to find a reason not to accept. After all, it's a beneficial offer although she does wonder why he came to her specifically and even named the school as 'Youkai' Academy when he didn't specify it being open only to Youkai. Instead, it's open to all non-human. Also, it confuses her why Ray would want to establish a school specifically for non-human.
Education system amongst the supernatural is quite loose. Often, the general population has no access to education or did they need it because most supernatural species' power is derived from their racial ability. It's difficult to standardize one curriculum that every race can be taught with. At most, it's a magic study which a wide array of races have. But even then, their magic system is too diverse as not all races have the same magic power like how Youkai lean more towards elemental magic like Yasaka specialized with an advanced form of fire elemental magic, Fox Fire or Kuroka with her Yin arts.
So, to make it short. Creating an educational system for supernatural races in general is impossible unless he is going to cater to each group. Otherwise, it would be literally impossible as even amongst the Youkai, they already have a very diverse group.
Cutting off her thoughts, Ray told her not to worry too much.
"Nothing to worry your pretty head over. I will handle everything from building to staffing the academy. I only ask you for a place to build it and handle the recruitment."
As generous as everything sounded, Yasaka does wonder… Why do all this? For what purpose?
Under Yasaka's inquisitive gaze, Ray's expression softens.
"There wasn't any ulterior motive. My newest daughter, Hinami, wished to attend school but I couldn't possibly send her to human school knowing how restrictive that would be for her, constantly having to worry about her true identity. So, I simply built one for her." He stated truthfully because there's no reason to hide it and perhaps by being sincere and honest, the cooperation would go better.
Perhaps, convinced by his honesty. Yasaka agreed since she isn't losing anything anyway and sought to gain more from the deal.
Yasaka then led them out from the shrine to find a good place to build the academy.
