In the Modern Age and even in the Middle Ages, the term was pretty known to a lot of people. It was the age before the flood that wiped out the evil that proliferated the world happened!
He was sure that they were the characters from the old texts, it's just that what was happening greatly contradicts the knowledge that he knew. He knew that there were other Houses except for the House of Adam, which means that there were other people except for the first man. The Nephilim were also said to descent from demons, not the said Watchers. There were a lot that happened which greatly disproved all the knowledge he knows, which did make him feel like a blind man, having no knowledge of where he truly is despite traversing it.
Still, without any choice to make, Elric could only stay and fight together with the Hero of the Pre-flood Era.
Unfortunately for him, he cannot do so any longer, faced with this current predicament of being "invited to join" by the legendary man that killed 900,000 demons with his sword.
"How did you know who I truly am?" Elric asked Methuselah. "I don't" Methuselah replied, which befuddled the former.
Sensing his confusion, Methuselah explained to him, "I possess the ability to see souls and determine which of those that belong to this world. It is my way to ascertain and hunt the demons of the Corrupted Realm. When I saw your soul, I knew that you were of this world, but your energy still greatly differs from the energies that this era's souls have. Thy soul isn't as tainted by evil as your ancestors yet it is also not as pure as those that worships the holy."
'Your soul is fundamentally tainted, as if you voluntarily chose to commit wrongful things, yet there is still good in you that balances your soul. It isn't just good deeds either. It's a contract. A contract that does not exist in this world, or even the universe."
Elric was confused at first, but soon realized what Methuselah was talking about. He zipped his mouth, not letting any more excess information come out of his mouth. It didn't go unnoticed as Methuselah smirked, "Don't worry, what you're thinking about will not come anymore."
"What?" Elric asked in confusion. What wouldn't come? What does Noah's ancestor know? "Just come with us, and you'll know everything you need to know." Methuselah smirked before bringing Elric into the tower, leaving the other dark-robed men outside.
The inside of the first level of the tower couldn't be as old and simple as it was. Stone bricks, a small fireplace, and a dark and narrow staircase spiraling all across the walls. In the middle of the floor was a round desk similar to a reception's. inside it was a man in his fifties, looking at the two with a calm smile on his face. "Is this him?" The man looked at Elric, scrutinized him up and down, and asked.
Methuselah nodded, to which the man smiled wider, "She is waiting upstairs." The man then stepped out of the desk and led the way with a torch in hand. When they stepped on the stairs, they then heard the doors behind them lock itself shut, which creeped out Elric. He did not sense any fluctuation when it happened. Because there were no people below, Elric assumed it to be magic, but not even a single energy was sensed by him. That could only mean that it shut itself without the control of anyone.
As they ascended the tall tower, walking through its long spiral stairway, Elric felt a strong sense of powerlessness as they grew near to the top. Despite his power inherited from the Chief Principal of Heaven, a sense of inferiority still descended upon him. Soon, his body began shaking in either nervousness or fear; either way, he knows that he is in danger.
Looking at Methuselah and the man leading their ascent, it seemed that this was all totally normal for them. As they stepped on the last flight of the staircase and arrive in front of an old, rune-engraved door with a lion as its knob, Elric had already surrendered his life, knowing that the person beyond this door is something he would not be able to handle.
The man holding the torch moved to turn the knob but stopped when he was just inches away from it. His eyes ffirst showed hints of confusion before it widened, with him nodding with understanding. He turned around and looked at Methuselah before tilting his head, signaling for them to go.
Methuselah knitted his eyebrows, "We're leaving him with…" He then looked at the door. "We can't do anything about it." Said the man with a shake of his head.
"She wants to see him alone, and we can only abide by her wishes. You know her temperament once she is disobeyed." The man added before sighing. When Methuselah thought about it, he also couldn't help but shudder. Without being able to do anything substantial to help him, Methuselah could only pat Elric before going down with the other man.
Upstairs, Elric was left all alone, shaking with sheer terror. He did not know who— or what— lies beyond that door, and he had no ability to do so. He tried using his energy to peek inside multiple times, but it was as if he had encountered a great wall, having no ability to infiltrate nor find any loopholes wherever. It's like the room had an absolute solid wall with no entrances even the size of a quark.
He could only inhale deeply, praying to the Almighty God for protection. He soon sensed something weird, but he cannot pinpoint what it was. He shook his head, dispersing any confusing thoughts, and extended his hand to turn the knob, opening the door.
The sight that greeted him was something that shook him to the core, not because of its magnificence, but because it was familiar. "T-This…" Elric gawked as he walked in and looked around. It was exactly the same as an office that a certain CEO that he read from a novel possessed. It was pinpoint to how he imagined it when he was reading it; a wide gray fur carpet, dark oak walls, bookshelves that were filled with thick hardback books, ebony furniture, a Victorian-style desk with a lamp that gives off warm light together with the open window that basks the room in sunset's gaze and a bottle of whiskey coupled with an iron bucket of ice and an old-fashioned, and a chair facing the opposite of the door, with a glimpse of a head peaking above it.
"You've arrived." He soon heard the woman's voice from behind the chair. Elric's eyes widened in bewilderment. She said it with a European accent! He was also familiar with this voice, because it was someone that he knew from his time!
"Jane?" Elric gasped.
