I turned and made my way down the stone corridors, nodding to a few servants who passed by with their heads bowed. I was never comfortable with that formality, but it came with the role. To them, I wasn't the calm and lazy Darius Caelum who preferred the easy way out when he could get away with it—I was Eldric Valen, King of Eldoria, and they looked to me for leadership.

As I walked, I thought about the divisions we were forming. Five thousand troops were all we had right now, and splitting them up was a gamble. But if we were strategic about it, we could make it work. The Peacekeepers would be our extended arm, keeping order on the roads and showing that Eldoria was a stabilizing force in the region. The Vanguard, the Sentinels, and the Bastion would hold the core of our defenses, ensuring that no enemy force could break through while the Peacekeepers worked to secure alliances.
