It took about ten minutes of squinting at the list for Isabelle to figure out she wasn't actually reading the text correctly. She wasn't sure exactly what she was seeing - everything appeared to be moving sideways.
Her eyes were beginning to water and a headache was forming behind her eyes.
"What's wrong, Your Majesty?"
She glanced up as Archibald stepped in and came over, examining her desk and the parchment with concern. "You've been making the same faces for an hour...has the document revealed an intrigue? A new plot perhaps?"
"...Er." She rubbed her forehead. "....No. I'm trying to read the ledger. But I can't understand the letters...."
Archibald furrowed his brow. "Your Majesty...?"
"...They look like...the lines of the pages are sliding into each other..."
He leaned over, peering at the paper.
She had both a scroll and a book open and laid out, trying to verify certain records.
"Hmmm."
