Chapter 5

I pick up the phone and try Maggie one more time. No answer. “Damn. I have got to get to her,” I say as I slam down the phone.”

I gather my things. I look at the bed where I made love to my husband for the first time. “This cannot be happening to me,” I scream.

There is a knock at the door. “Housekeeping,” the voice says from the other side.

I crack the door but keep the security chain in place. I peer out. It is a man standing behind the housekeeper. I pretend not to see him.

“We are fine. I do not need anything this morning,” I say.

I have to get out of here. I gather only a few items and the cash out of my purse. I need to travel light. I can’t take the car. I will have to take the train.

I was not far from the Amtrak. If I can get there and get a ticket before the man got me is the dilemma. The door started to rattle.

“I am not here to hurt you Miya. Your brother sent me, “the voice said.

I cannot trust anyone. I have to get out of here. I grab my bag. I leave everything behind. My wedding dress, my makeup and the memories we made the night before. I go to the balcony. I will jump if I have to. I need to get out of here and get to my sister in law.

As I open the door to the balcony, a man leaps onto my balcony. “Stop,” he screams.

“Leave me alone,” I yell at the man.

I run back in to the room. “Please leave me alone,” I scream.

The man pushes into my room through the balcony. “Stop acting like a child. Your brother sent me. Code Word Rowan,” he says as he shoves his body into my room.

My mother’s wolf name. I stop running. “I am sorry. I just do not understand what is happening,” I say. I sit down on the floor and begin to cry.

“Where is my husband? Where is my brother? What is going on?” I ask.

The man sits down on the floor beside me. “Listen to me very carefully. You were warned this could happen. You will have to come with me to be safe,” he says as he touches my hand.

“Okay, Where are you taking me?” I ask him.

“It is better if you do not know all the specifics,” he says.

“Okay. What is your name? How do you know my brother? How do you know the code word? Where is my husband?” I ask him.

He looked at me almost completely exhausted by my questions. He scratches his head and flashes his fangs at me.

“Waylen told me you were a little bit of a pain,” he hissed at me.

“I am sorry but I need to know what the hell is going on,” I say.

“My name is Lenew Blir. I have known your brother and husband for a very long time. My parents were part of your family for many years. Your brother gave me the code word so you would trust me. I know where they are and I am going to take you to them, but you have to trust me,” Lenew says.

I take a deep breath and say okay. I finish gathering my things. At least I don’t have to take the train. Lenew watches me as I pack the few things I once thought I would have to leave behind.

“My wedding dress?” I ask.

“I can send someone for it. The room is paid for a week. I will make sure someone takes it to your house before the end of the week,” Lenew says.

“Will I be able to go home soon,” I ask?

Lenew grabs my upper arm. “I hope to have this all sorted out very soon,” he says.

I grab my bag, and slide it up on my shoulder, “ I am ready,” I say.

“I can carry that,” Lenew says.

I pull back, “That is okay I can carry my own things,” I say.

I walk out the door to my room and start walking quickly toward the stairs. For a moment I thought of running. As I rounded the corner to go down the stairs I smelled a familiar smell. “Mom,” I say silently.

Lenew rushes up behind me, “You have to stay close to me,” he says.

“Have you seen my mom lately?” I ask.

“No one has seen Rowan since the war,” he responds.

“I thought I smelled her. Her scent is here,” I say.

“Your wolf is going to become very sensitive in your condition,” he says.

“My condition! I assure you my wolf is fine. She has been silent since last night,” I scream at him.

“Miya, you need to calm down. Let’s get in the car and I will explain on the way,” Lenew says.

I agree and continue my walk to the car. I better get the answers I want. I better see my brother and my husband today. Where is my wolf? She is being very quiet.
