_________ POV Narration_________
"You ok there Ozzy?" Ashton asked while looking at the mess he had created in the outside world.
The 'Decadence of Man' hadn't been used for a long time, but the explosion had spread quite far in those few seconds, it managed to burn most of the wall he raised that was in the direction of the Dark Continent.
But that didn't really matter, since the beasts that were supposed to pass the seas had their brains melted and bodies charred. The seawater did little to help, actually making things worse and creating steam.
'I'm... Fine. At least mostly...' Ashton could clearly discern that Ozzy's voice was tired.
"I think we both need some rest... Let's check on the rest first though. I do wish to know where the other gods are. There should still be a few left." Ashton spoke as he looked at the human continent.
'Well, by my knowledge, there shouldn't be more than 5 left... I guess they could be hiding anywhere. But I highly doubt they'll show up to battle it out with humanity ever again. Not after today's shitshow...' Ozzy said while slowly starting to recover his lost energy.
"We should really get you a body after this," Ashton said while repairing the wall of trees.
'Nah... I'm good like this. My time has long passed, I'm not really the type to cling on to life so desperately... I've only wanted to see the death of the detestable things that ended my kingdom... But I guess we can talk more about what to do next after finishing off the rest of the horde. Maybe finding the other gods too?'
Ashton just nodded at Ozzy's words.
It was time to check on humanity, see how many kills they racked up.
In truth, they had been keeping themselves busy rather well. The group of leaders at least. The regular soldiers were basically told to standby on the walls still.
There was no chance that they were going to get any action on this day. As their leaders were more than excited to test most of their newfound powers.
Monsters fell by the hundreds of thousands, there weren't all that many that managed to pass by Ashton's wall anyway, so these were merely stragglers. Still enough to count as an actual army.
Kite was currently the one with the most kills, as his 'Crazy Slots' saw it in itself to gift Kite with an even deadlier than normal Death Scythe.
He could quite easily walk around and cut everything open at all times. There was no resistance for him, not even powerful predators could block his blows.
The same situation repeated itself with Maha, the old man decided to use his newest Hatsu, allowing him Aura to turn into a deadly poison that killed most of the things that entered his En.
Those that had some resistance to poison only managed to live to understand why Maha was an Enhancer, not a Transmuter.
His poison field was strong, but it was nothing when compared with his body. Any beast that got within a 300-meter range of the old assassin was shredded apart by him in an instant, the battlefield on his side looked like a strange blur of afterimages.
He had essentially created a kill zone, one that he constantly needed to move since the beasts refused to enter it after more and more bodies piled up. They were being commanded after all, even though the god commanding them was close to giving up and running away.
The other members of note, Zeno, Silva and Cheadle. The three were also closest to killing the most beasts, the only reason they didn't was that there simply weren't enough beasts to slay in their parts of the labyrinth.
The rest were all doing fine. Pitou finally getting some more battle experience on her own, although she kinda wanted to fight by Ashton side...
Well, by the size and sound of the explosions released in Ashton's fight, it wasn't something that any of the people on the Continent could interfere with.
The fight continued for a while, with Ashton hovering over the forests and looking at all the people he could. He didn't bother monitoring people like Kite or Maha. Those that were strong enough didn't need his protection.
Rather, he sometimes spared a glance to the children of the Zoldycks, namely Killua and Kalluto. The two seemed to be doing just fine. The two of them formed a team with Gon and seemed to be hunting down the monsters rather than defending their attacks.
Well, that was the case with most battles. A good offence is the best defence after all.
Seeing that many people fighting with beasts from the Dark Continent reminded him of something... Or rather, a group of people.
'Ozzy... Remember the expedition team? The one with that Netero's son was leading?' Ashton asked his strange and somewhat elusive helper.
'Sure I do. I remember that they didn't really respond to any of your attempts at contacting them.'
Ashton had tried to bring all the strong players of humanity in one place. So he obviously tried to contact the Expedition Team led by Beyond too.
But there were no results, what was worse, his mark on Curly, the researcher of the group that Ashton got along with, had disappeared.
Ashton didn't really know when. It was his mistake for not wearing that Relic at all times. But that didn't outright mean that he was dead. He could've also mistaken it for a curse after he got stronger and simply exorcized it.
There were many possibilities, but it was impossible to know since they were simply not responding to any contact attempts.
Not that the attempts were too good either. Writing messages on birds and sending them flying towards the dark continent wasn't exactly a useful idea.
The expedition group could be anywhere in that vast world... Or simply dead.
Ashton now had no way of knowing. And he found that matter frustrating. Gon didn't really think that his father died though, he refused to even consider it.
Now, that Ashton simply didn't have anything better to do, he was forced to just stand around and think about things.
Well, he did try looking for the gods that remained, but he couldn't find any. They all fled at the sight of him arriving back on the human continent.
The fight was now nearing its end. The beasts, now without any leader, refused to approach the walls that Ashton formed around the continent.
The few that were still alive within the walls were slowly being hunted down. Being killed either by the trees of the labyrinth, or the humans in it.
And so, humanity's greatest threat was extinguished... Surprisingly easy actually. Seemed like most of the effort went into creating that Calamity rather than gathering a powerful horde.
There were powerful beasts within the horde, but there were so few that it was barely worth mentioning.
Now, Humanity was left with another great job... Cleaning up the mountains of corpses that had formed both in the sea and on their lands.
But that was going to take quite a while...
It seems like the fate of humanity is to flourish once more... Rising out of the ashes of an old civilization, now they were to continue expanding.
