Nate was shocked to see the masked driver going deeper and deeper into the woods. There was no house, no human beings, no animals but woods that covered the area and there was no way the police would trace them to this point after all the corners the masked man had taken.
He wanted to ask the burning question in his mind but the first order he had gotten from the masked man was enough to make him swallow whatever he had in mind.
Again, to his greatest surprise, after they had driven a long distance, they came to a mansion.
He gasped, lost in the beauty of the mansion. Each corner of the wall was beautifully carved, and the designs were made with complete care. With the spotless white paint on the wall and the giant gate that spelt money, it was looking like a palace from the fairyland. Greeneries around the mansion added more beauty to it.
He was just beginning to enjoy the beauty that made him feel out of the world when a man approached the car. He was in a black suit, dressed so corporate that you would believe he is an official businessman, but to Nate and Tina's surprise, he was just the masked man driver.
"Take our two visitors to the Galaxy." The masked man ordered. Saying two visitors, he meant Tina and Nate.
"Yes, boss." The driver bowed and opened the door of the car for them to step out.
"The Galaxy? Hehehe. Are you going to take us to the Galaxy? Hehehe. Will we go through a rocket or what? Hehehe." Nate asked stupidly and laughed anxiously.
"Nate, do as you're told." Roselle held a stiffened gaze at him.
"Oh, sorry ma'am." He turned to the masked man to apologize. "Sorry mask man."
The masked man turned his neck slightly at Nate addressing him as a masked man.
Nate's heart almost jumped out of his chest as he realized what he had said. "I… I'm sorry boss." He stuttered.
Tina and Nate stepped out of the car.
Tina was still out in the space at the sight in front of her when the masked man's driver said to her and Nate.
"This way ma'am, sir." But it seemed the two did not hear him.
"Ma'am, good sir, this way please." The driver spoke louder, impatient this time.
"Oh, we're sorry." Nate and Tina replied at the same time, embarrassed at their action.
Nate turned to find Roselle expecting her to be behind them. But Roselle was far gone with the masked man.
He touched the bandage on his head and decided to follow the masked man's driver.
In a dark wide room, Roselle shivered as she felt the hot sensation burn on her cheeks, she was downcast at the moment. With the tears that had piled up in her eyes, she watched her master pace the room as his voice vibrated through her skin.
"How can you be so stupid, Karla." That was what he called her. Karla, instead of Roselle ever since he found her falling down that valley.
"After all I've been through because of you, after all the training I've given you, this is how you've messed everything up?! You are busy exposing yourself to everyone when we are yet to complete our mission?!"
These words shot right into her veins and brought shivers to run down her spine.
"I'm sorry, boss." Her apologies landed her another hard slap on her face. If only she could let her tears flow she would but not in front of her master unless she wants to go through hell at the hands of her master.
"When I first met you, Karla, I felt the need to survive despite how much I called for death." The piercing eyes of her master hardened. He turned away from Roselle when his memory went to the days when he was young.
"My mother once called me bad luck. You know why?!"
Roselle shook her head vigorously.
"That is because I've always brought bad luck wherever I go, isn't it an obvious answer?!"
Roselle shook to her bones. This man was the only person that could make her shiver.
"When I was a kid, I learned through my mother that my father was killed on a battlefield the day I was born. That was the first curse I blessed my mother with, I made her a widow. That same day, my mother fainted after hearing the news of my father being dead and only recovered after a month.
After a month when my mother was out of the comma, she was told that I was taken care of by a woman in the hospital who later lost her job in the hospital for a reason I don't know. Luckily for my mother at that time, the government paid for the bills because my father was a military man." He turned again to face Roselle who was for the first hearing the childhood painful story of her boss.
"The government promised to give us monthly allowance for complete 10 years but only fulfilled this in the first years of my father's death.
When Mum went to request her remaining payment, she was not given attention and soon, she was forced to stop going for it. Mother took all she had and opened a shop to make money to support us.
When I was only two, my mother took me to the shop for the first time, and that same day, an accident happened in the shop that took all my mother had ever worked hard for. All of our goods burned to ashes. This happened the very first day my mother took me to the shop.
That month, my mother could barely feed herself not to take care of me. No one was there to help her. A few months later after the collapse of the shop, we were asked to pack out of the house due to our inability to pay for house rent. That was when we came to live in the cramped province of Daura.
When I was seven, my mother lost her right hand all because of me. That day, I went missing and when she was trying to find me, she got into an accident and lost her right hand.
Tragedy upon tragedy kept happening until the day I lost my mother." Again he pursed and turned away from Roselle.
That day he was just coming back from school. "Mum, mum where are you, I've got some good news for you." He scurried in the cramped corridor heading towards the kitchen. He was hoping to see her happy and excited but she was not there.
He went down the cramped corridor again towards her room shouting, "Mum! Guess what? I made the top 5 in my maths examination." He was waiting to hear his mother's excited voice but none came.
He decided to trick her. "Mum, I brought your favourite, walnut." Still, there was no answer. Almost checking the whole room, he couldn't find her.
He became afraid. It was unlike his mother to be silent on a bustling afternoon like this. He opened his mother's room for the third time but his mother was not there.
Suddenly, he heard a door bang from outside. He heaved and muttered. "Maybe she had gone to buy something in the market." He thought excitedly and went to the corridor heading outside. Reaching outside, he hoped to see her and deliver the news but she was not there.
He became confused, and again, he heard the door bang from inside the house. The sound had come from the room he had left just now.
Things became odd, there was a feeling of dread that wafted in the air. Close to where he heard the sound, another thud came from the toilet door which made him jump backwards in fear.
He gulped hard, and panic began to rise from the pit of his stomach. Out of fear, he puts on his coat back as if it will shield anything that might come to him. He gathered his strength and decided to check in the toilet.
He crosses his arm in front of his chest to steady himself, but this time, not even the coat on his body could shield the pain that stabbed his heart when he opened the toilet door.
He began to shriek away from the sad truth in front of him, his mother was very healthy when he left. He was sure of it. He needed to get to his feet to find help, as fast as he could or else that will be the beginning of another pain in his life. The addition of bad lucks.
"Somebody help me!" Poor Roderick cried, but no one was around, except him in the damped yard. He ran out into the street to call for help.
Just then, he saw a luxurious car swooping down the damp road, immediately he ran towards it. Unaware of what he was doing, he ran straight in front of the car waving his hands in the air for the driver to stop.
Inside the car, three men sat. One the driver, second the boss and his companion. Immediately he saw poor Roderick waving his hands and crying bitterly, his lips parted in a dangerous smile.
"Now boss it's time to get him. I'm sure he won't be able to refuse your offer in this state he is." The man sitting beside his boss smiled mischievously.
