chapter 16-Illumi

Adam was running, swiftly dodging trees, with his eyes set on finally completing this stage of the Hunter exam, as he just needed one more point to have a total of 6 points.

However, something hastily approached from behind.

Adam had no time to react even though he had his guard up the whole time and had even saw it coming. It was just too fast for his body to react fully in time to dodge it.

Adam, knowing that he couldn't dodge the attack, tried to turn back as fast as possible to get his eyes on whatever was coming toward him.

But he was too slow and suddenly felt multiple sharp pains in his back causing him to collapse to the ground.

'This is the third time I've been paralysed now even though I have Nen, sigh I just need to get faster'

It was then that Adam heard a clacking noise not too far away. Despite not being able to look up Adam still knew who it was.

'Illumi' Adam thought and sweat began to envelop his body as the clacking got closer.

Illumi pulled out the needles from Adam and flipped Adam's body to face upwards. He started to rub his hands on Adam's body and stopped when he touched something hard.

Illumi then put his hand under Adam's shirt and grabbed Adam's badge, which he had been hiding since he got it.

Illumi then began to talk sending shivers through Adam "It's a good thing I looked at you when you first entered through the elevator and saw your badge or I might not have been able to get 3 points so easily"

'I guess there was no point of hiding it at the start since Illumi was going to hunt me. I never had a chance of winning against a master assassin and a nen user as powerful as Illumi' Adam thought.

Illumi then flipped Adam onto his back once again and started to take the needles out of his face, which caused his face to start contracting and bulging until it revealed Illumi's long black hair and dark eyes of clearly someone very twisted mentally.

He then continued to talk "the effects of the needles on your body will wear off soon and you'll be able to move again. I'm only doing this so Hisoka won't get mad at me and since I have a question for you. Why did you look so afraid when you first looked at me in the tunnel? I was in disguise and you wouldn't have been able to tell how strong I was from just looking at me for the first time. You have learnt nen early so you shouldn't be a coward. Therefore that means you knew who I was and felt fear. But how did you know?"

Adam began to sweat a lot not going unnoticed by Illumi.

'What should I say, should I try to fool him? He might torture me to find out, or should I tell him I know who he is and risk being killed? Assassins like their secrets kept secrets, and I might spoil his plan of following Killua while keeping his identity hidden from Killua' Adam trying to figure out the best possible thing to say just ended up blurting out "I have a good sense for who is strong and I felt scared as soon as I saw you and Hisoka"

'It's best not to reveal too much about my knowledge just yet, I did tell a half-truth you can practically feel their strength oozing out of them compared to the other examinees so he might not see me hiding the real truth. Even if I am tortured that can just be apart of my training. I have to become familiar with large amounts of pain sometime or other in this world if I want to be the strongest'

After getting Adam's answer, Illumi flipped Adam back up and looked deeply into his eyes.

All adam saw were unemotional abyssal eyes devoid of any pupils, and was unable to get a read on what Illumi was thinking.
