Alpha to be

"Why are you so forlorn my dear?" A soft voice coos. The pure white wolf sighs as she looks down from her perch at the edge of the cliff overlooking the valley.

"Mother, I don't wish to join in Howl Fest. It's just a bunch of tone deaf wolves trying to be louder than the other. Not to mention a fight always breaks out between Beta's and Alpha's. I don't want that to happen to me," she looks to her mother, a greying wolf.

"Victoria, I know being the next Alpha is scary, but that is how it works. This is also a good way to find your mate; you're already 21 for goodness sake. It's time," the wolf says and licks her daughters cheek.

"Now come, it's time to hunt!"

Victoria smiles at that, she always did enjoy a good hunt. She follows the others to their hunting grounds. As per usual their hunt was a success. They were one of the stronger and more formidable packs around.

Her father sat on the counsel and had a lot of say in territory discussions. They as a pack chose to live in the snow side of the mountains due to their pack consisting mostly of white and grey wolves. They blended better into their surroundings and as such their fur were thicker than average after a few generations of living in the cold.

After the hunt she took her kill over to where the pups and Omega's were. They played and giggled as her tail wagged happily. Once the dead deer dropped on the crunchy snow the pups perked up and ran over excitedly.

"Thank you Victoria, you always take such good care of us," the Omega in charge smiled as she walked over.

"Strong wolves start with strong pups, we've been fortunate this round with how many have survived," Victoria smiles, but she does feel sadness in her heart for the two pups they had lost in the start of the birthing season. Granted it was considerably less than usual, but it still had the pack in mourning for a week.

She had to make sure these ones survived till adulthood. If she were to take over as Alpha, she needs to be sure the wolves under her care were well taken care off.

One of the pups smiled up to her with a mouth full of food and his snout dark from the blood. His tail wagged and he gulped loudly.

"Thank you Victoria! You're the bestest!" He yipped before continuing eating.

"Just be careful Max I don't want you choking on anything. You're mother will have my head," the white Alpha to be smiled before nodding to the Omega and making her way to her parents.

She greeted them before settling down to eat. They both smiled and wagged their tails, proud of their daughter.

"I will be going ahead after dinner to talk with the council. They want to discuss the human settlement that has been slowly nearing one of theirs territory," the dark gray Alpha said. His black fur around his snout and eyes, nearly white from age.

"Just be careful dear and for heavens sake don't accept any offering Gustav gives you, last time you kept whining of how bad your stomach hurt," the female Alpha said.

Victoria could only giggle at remembering her strong and proud father, crumpled to their cave floor, whining and begging for mercy and death from his wife.

"Yes dear, I learned my lesson," he sighs, but smiles lovingly to his mate.

After eating, her father left to go speak with the council. Victoria started to make herself presentable for Howl Fest. All the while her mother lecturing her on finding a suitable mate to help her take on the role of Alpha.

She didn't have the heart to tell her mother she already had someone in mind. Victoria wasn't even sure if her parents would be okay with her choice, but why tell them when she's not even sure if it would be reciprocated. She doesn't even know if they person would even be there at Howl Fest tonight, even though they should be.

The white Alpha to be sighed and rolled her eyes as her mother spoke. She would be a good daughter and at the very least listen to her.

"Obviously someone from our own pack is preferable, but, and don't tell your father this, if you find a strong one with black fur, oh, so many females would be jealous! Granted he's also good looking as a human," her mother said as she kept rubbing at Victoria's cheek fur.

"Mother, we don't shift, remember?" Victoria sighs and her mother raises an eyebrow.

"That's only because your father is a coward," she hums and Victoria frowns in thought.

"Strange thing to say about an Alpha," she murmurs and her mother laughs.

"I just meant that he doesn't want complications with humans. They have hunted us in the past. This is just safer. The great wolves decided this decades ago," her mom hums and steps back.

"There we go all perfect, looking like a regal Alpha," her mother smiles and Victoria gives a slight smile.

"Thank you mother, I promise to try this time," Victoria smiles and her mother nudges her nose to hers.

"That's all we ask, dear," she smiles and they head over to the neutral grounds.

She does take a look back at the others from their pack joining them, making sure they were all alright and excited to go. She knows there are some very excited Omega's who were trying their best to control their wagging tails. She can't help but smile as she let her tail wag a little faster to let them know it was okay to be excited. It was a big night for most wolves.

She does feel her anxiety creep in and constrict over her heart. Tonight would be a big night indeed, she could feel it in the wind and the moon. Good or bad, she can't really tell.
