In the afternoon, Kyle went to Hagrid's cabin.
"Kyle, what brings you here?"
Inside the cabin, Hagrid enthusiastically handed him a plate of Rock Cakes, "Thanks for the gift. I love it."
The dragon models were placed on the only table in the cabin. Hagrid seemed afraid they would fall, so he had put a small fence around the table.
He was very attentive.
Kyle didn't take the plate of Rock Cakes. He shook his head, "Hagrid, I can't eat anything right now."
"That's true. Your stomach must be full of turkey and sausage." Hagrid didn't mind. He took a Rock Cake and took a bite, "What do you need?
Just so you know, I'm not taking you to the Forbidden Forest."
"I'm not going to the Forbidden Forest." Kyle said, "I came to ask if you know any wizards with the surname Prince."
"Prince? I think that surname is…"
Hagrid paused, then slapped his head, "Sorry, Kyle. I think I might have a cold. My head feels foggy. I can't remember a lot of things.
Oh, right… Poppy asked me to see her after the feast."
Hagrid suddenly stood up and said hurriedly, "Sorry, Kyle. I have to go to the hospital wing.
If I remember, I'll write to you."
"Alright." Kyle sighed with disappointment and followed Hagrid out of the cabin.
It seemed like he would have to wait until Chris was done and write to him to ask if he knew.
Besides Hagrid, Kyle didn't plan to ask any other professors about this.
Professor McGonagall and the others were too tight-lipped. If that "Prince" was really related to Snape, even if they knew, they wouldn't tell him.
…
After returning to the castle from the cabin, Kyle, with nothing to do, went back to the library and continued to read the hardcover book he had borrowed that morning.
It was a biography, telling the legendary life of a dueling master.
The master was a true master. According to the book, he had never lost a duel since he first started dueling. He had even achieved a record of two hundred consecutive wins, winning the dueling championship eleven times in a row.
This record has never been broken. Even Professor Flitwick, in his younger days, had only achieved one hundred and fifteen consecutive wins.
But this master's writing skills were not very good. He rushed through the originally profound and complex magical theories that needed to be analyzed and understood step by step. He just used a short sentence to quickly pass over them.
It was like doing math problems. Usually, after writing a "solution," you need at least three or five formulas to derive the answer.
But this master was different. He didn't even write the solution. He just threw out the answer.
It was useful, but not very much.
Besides… although he also mentioned many tips on casting spells in a teaching tone, his expression was very vague.
"When facing a moving enemy, rotate your wrist slightly at the right time when casting a spell."
"To make the spell's range further, raise your wand slightly, but not too high. Otherwise, you'll miss. Just go with the flow."
"If you feel lost during a duel, ask your wand. It will tell you what to do next."
…
What was the right time?
What did "go with the flow" mean?
These words gave Kyle a headache, but he didn't want to give up on this content. So, he could only try to understand what the author was trying to express and then practice it over and over again in the Room of Requirement.
This was the most time-consuming part. Sometimes, because of a vague sentence, Kyle would need to try it for a whole day, or even longer, in the Room of Requirement.
He didn't finish the book until the holidays were almost over.
The day before school started, Kyle went to the library to return the book.
Madam Pince took the book and, as usual, checked it. After confirming that it was in good condition, she put it away.
Just as Kyle was about to go to the shelf next to him to find another book, a cold voice suddenly came from behind him.
"I suggest you stop borrowing these kinds of biographies."
"What?" Kyle turned around in confusion.
Madam Pince sat in her chair, emotionlessly flipping through the hardcover book, "The content of this book isn't that complex. But you've been reading it for two weeks. It's clearly not right for you."
Kyle was surprised. This was the first time he had seen Madam Pince take the initiative to talk to a student. And she was talking about something outside her work scope.
After regaining his composure, Kyle quickly asked, "Do you mean my basics are too bad?"
"No, your basic magic knowledge is good. Judging from your borrowing list, you've even surpassed many third-year students."
Madam Pince raised her eyes and said, "But to understand the biography of a legendary wizard, you need experience and knowledge."
Kyle clicked his tongue. He couldn't argue with that.
He was only a first-year. Besides magical creatures, he didn't have much experience in other areas.
"If you really want to learn something, don't waste your time on these biographies."
Madam Pince extended her hand and pointed to a bookshelf not far away, "I suggest you go look over there."
Kyle didn't hesitate. As soon as Madam Pince finished speaking, he walked towards the bookshelf.
Madam Pince had said it so clearly. He had to at least take a look.
Besides, he hadn't planned on borrowing any specific book this time. Maybe there was something he was interested in.
…
It turned out that listening to advice was good for you.
Five minutes later, Kyle returned with a thick book.
"The Changes of Charms: Tracing the Origins"
Madam Pince's expression changed slightly, but it quickly returned to normal.
After filling out the borrowing slip, Kyle didn't choose to stay in the library. He put the book back in his dorm and planned to read it later.
It was the last day of the holidays. He still had some things to do.
Kyle first went to the Room of Requirement. As soon as he entered, a group of furry creatures surrounded him.
Five Mooncalfs stared at Kyle with their big, round eyes.
Kyle patted each of their heads and asked, "It's daytime. Why aren't you sleeping?"
One of the Mooncalfs tilted its head and "cooed" twice.
"Are you afraid that someone will come, so you don't dare to sleep?" Kyle laughed, "Don't worry, nobody else will come here except me."
Hearing Kyle say this, the Mooncalfs returned to the burrows that the Room of Requirement had built for them.
