Chapter 2 Offer

"I am hiring you to be my secret Nanny." Jen's mouth agape while looking at the man in front of her in disbelief.

'This man is crazy. Why does he need a nanny at his age?' she wondered while looking at Angelo with a frown.

"Secret Nanny? Like a babysitter?" she asked while looking at Angelo quizzically.

Angelo nodded. His face was expressionless while staring at her. "But as far as I know, sir, you don't need someone to babysit you. You're too old to have someone take care of you." Jen asked innocently. Her puzzled look made Angelo laugh.

'Why is he laughing? Is there anything funny about what I said? He doesn't have children, right?' Her nose wrinkled. 'But come to think about it. According to them, this man was known as a ruthless man. They say he never smiles, and now he's laughing?' she wondered.

"You'll find out once you accept my offer." Angelo cleared his throat and became serious again.

"Can I ask, sir?" Angelo nodded.

"Sure. What is it?"

"Why? I mean… Why me? They said you're only looking for a secretary and not a nanny. But why are you offering this to me now? Was it because of my credentials? Was it because we're poor, and I did not finish college? Is that why you're offering me a position of a nanny and not as your executive secretary?" Jen felt hurt, as she felt offended. She came to apply for a position she was aiming for.

Jen wanted to be a secretary, working in a prestigious company. But whenever she applied, she always got rejected because of her credentials. Some of their neighbors, especially those women of the same age as hers, have worked in different companies. Some were successful in their own businesses… And she was the one who was being left out among her peers. Whenever their neighbors criticized her, she laughed about it… about her state, but deep inside, it hurt her. The hurt of being compared to, humiliated, and always looked down on by everyone.

Angelo's jaw clenched as he noticed her eyes watered. "That's not true. I did not choose you as a nanny because I know you are trustworthy." Jen got more confused.

"So, you mean having me as your secretary made me less trustworthy?" She asked, confused.

"No. It's not that," Angelo gasped as he put his palm on his face in frustration. 'Damn! What will I do to this woman? She's not quick-witted.'

"I mean… I know you can fulfill your duty as a secretary, but I need you as a nanny more than a secretary." Angelo explained.

"Sir, can you be more elaborative? Cause I don't get why you need me as your nanny."

Angelo sighed in exasperation as he was losing his patience. "I will tell you the reason once you accept my offer," he said firmly.

Giving up, Jen sighed. "And what is your offer, sir?" she asked.

"I'll give you fifty thousand pesos salary in a month, but you will be staying in my house 24/7 and keep our conversation discreet. No one should know what your position would be and to whom you are working. I will let you sign the NDA (non-disclosure agreement) to be assured that you will not tell anyone," he explained.

Jen's eyes twinkled upon hearing the amount of the salary she would receive once she accepted the job. 'Fifty thousand in a month… Not bad. It is an excellent offer for people like me who haven't graduated from college. It will be impossible to find a job with an equivalent offer of this from the other jobs.' Jen grinned.

'In a year, I can buy a house for my mom. And send dad to the hospital to have his kidney treated. Working as a nanny might not be hard, and it's a decent job too. I better accept his generous offer than let it slide.' Jen grinned at her thoughts.

"Alright. It's a deal, then. When will I start?" She asked.

"You can start tomorrow. I will call you tomorrow. I will pick you up at your house." Jen's eyes widened in surprise at his command. 'No. He can't go to my house. Our place was too crowded and narrow. Aside from that, robbers were roaming around our area. It will be dangerous for him to go there,' she thought.

"Oh. No need to do that. I can come to your house, sir. I don't want to bother your busy schedule," she reasoned.

"I don't have work tomorrow. Tomorrow is Saturday… so it's alright." Jen immediately shook her head.

"No, sir. I insist. I will come to your house. Just send me the address. Coming to my place isn't a good idea." She laughed awkwardly. "If you don't want to get robbed… you might not come." Jen muttered.

"Are you saying something?" Angelo ask.

"None, sir." Jen smiled, which showed off her teeth. "Uh, sir. I will be shameless tonight. As you can see… It's already evening. I haven't eaten any food yet since lunch. Will it be okay if you lend me money? I'm starving." As soon as Jen mentioned food, her stomach growled as if she didn't eat food for ages.

Angelo looked at her, amused. "Alright, no need to borrow money. I will treat you to dinner instead. I'm famished too… So let's have dinner together.

Her eyes twinkled as she heard that it was a treat. She doesn't mind whether she'll be called shameless… What mattered was she can finally eat. And it's free!

Angelo went out of the door first. Behind him was Jen following him. 'Where will we eat? Maybe in some expensive restaurant… Oh! I hope we'll go to a pizza parlor… as I was craving it earlier. But any restaurant will do, as long as I can eat a lot.' she thought.

Jen was oblivious to her surroundings that the employees of Angelo Buenavista, especially those women who have a crush on their boss, were glaring at her like they were going to skin her alive.
