CHAPTER 34

DAVE'S POV

Dave had booked a flight to Abuja Immediately, when he heard how it all happened.

Inspector Spark had called Dave on the phone telling him "The Adopter, Steph, had filed a case on them and was sueing him for harassment and defamation of her character."

Dave knew all this would happen, This time he knew he had to speak with Steph, He had to face her.

Mary asked if there was anything Inspector Spark could do, Spark had told her "I think We are going to lose this Case, She has more grounds than we do."

There was silence on the Phone,

Inspector Spark begins to speak "The Daughter has been ringing my Phone."

Dave had told him to lie low for now, until he gets to Abuja.

As the Plane landed, Dave books a ride, Spark had told him Steph had a Court case that Morning.

When he gets to the Court Yard, He could see few reporters around, Dave looks at his wrist watch, He knew he was late,

He pays the Uber, as he trolls his small trolley behind, Mary had packed for him.

As he enters the Court room,

He immediately sits down, He looks at his wrist watch again, He knew the court would be over in Twenty Minutes.

He looks up as he sees Steph, He recognizes her, Spark had sent a picture of her.

The Adopter, a fair skinned woman in her Robe clearly in her Fourties.

"My Juries," Dave sees her as she goes towards them.

Steph points towards her client she's defending as she begins to speak

"My Client here, A young man who's Father had a left that plot of land to, is innocent, His uncle was jealous, faked those document and sold that land out." Steph says as she points towards the uncle.

"And when my Client found out, He goes to over to confront the People the land was Sold to, that He wants the land back,

His rightful land back and he proved to them that document given to them was fake,

"And Guess what, He was beaten to stupor by the buyers Men."

Dave watches her as she faces the Jury once again trying to convincing them.

Steph continues in a high pitched voice "Today, My client and the people are here seated, to witness the justice that will be played out today,

For him to get the justice he deserves and rightful land back."

The member of the jury nods their head, as the people who came to witness the case claps their hand.

Dave watches as the Jugde adjourns the case. It occurs to him that Steph isn't someone that loses a case,

He saw the passion and the fire in her. They might never be able to win the Case over her, even if they tried.

She says a little word to her client, as he watches as She moves towards the door.

Dave follows behind, When She gets out of the Court room, He gets closer to her, with his trolley behind him.

Dave clears his throat as he speaks "You did Great in there, Ms Steph."

She turns to look at him "Excuse Me?"

"I am your Daughter Birth Father, The name is Dave." Dave speaks up, trying to hide all the emotion behind him.

Steph squints her eyes at him, as She cross examine him.

"So you sent that Inspector after me, and He spread all sort of lies against me and He went to talk my daughter behind my back " Steph speaks harshly.

"I am sorry about that, Ma'am, That's the main reason why I am here,

Could you spear me few minutes of your time please." Dave trying to shield his body from the Sun.

"I really don't have time for this, Speak to your Investigator." Steph says as she opens her Car to get inside.

Dave takes his hands forward, and he hold her gently "Please I am just asking for a few minutes." He pleads with his eyes, Sweat dripping off him.

Steph pulls his hands off her "Don't you ever, touch me ever again." She says angrily as she faces Dave.

Then She looks around "I have a place in mind, You will have to make it quick."

Dave smiles briefly, as he puts his trolley in her trunk. He enters her Car, as She drives off to a close by Restaurant.

They both enter and they find a seat,

He sees the waiteress, as he gives the waiteress his order,

Steph insisted she didn't want anything, but Dave told the Waiteress to get her Water.

Dave begins to Speak, "I am sorry about how the investigator came off to you."

He pauses, Cleans off his sweat with his towel,

"You know when I dropped my baby to the Shelter home, I wasn't and am not proud of that decision." He speaks as he watches the waitress bringing their order to the table.

The Waiteress places their order on the table.

Dave gulps his drink as he continues "I was just starting off as a Doctor, things were rocky then, I couldn't tell my Wife that I had cheated on her, I couldn't even look at my self in the mirror." Dave hungs his head down, He couldn't look at Steph.

Steph didn't say a Word, She just stares at him, She didn't even touch the water in front of her.

Dave couldn't tell what she was thinking, So he continues,

"I went to that Shelter home two years back, I was told she had been adopted, I couldn't trace you, So I am here as a Parent as well as you to just give me a chance to finally meet Her, I am not taking her away from you, I don't even want this to get the court." Tears begins to build around his eyes

"I just want her to find out that I looked for her, I am not proud of what I did, And I want to be part of her life too." He cleans his eyes, as the tears begins to drops gently.

He looks up at Steph, who hasn't said a word Since, Dave watches her speak

"I will be dropping the charges, as long as you stop spreading lies against me and you stay far away from my Child."

She carries her car key on the Table as she begins to walk away.

Dave couldn't say a word 'Didnt she hear, He just wanted to be a part of the child Life."
