It took them much longer to reach the capital than when they came, the crown prince let them slow down because of the injured Zhao Xing. Only she and the Crown Prince stayed in the carriage this time. Xiao Chen had been silent these days, and avoided eye contact with her at all times and acting weirdly. She had wanted to ask, but she thought it was best if she didn't, it wasn't like they were that close.
Zhao Xing thought about it these days, her mission of protecting the Crown Prince was completed, though she hadn't rescued the prince on purpose, she thought by this time she should be able to return to her world, but when she woke up every day, she would still be in the city head's house.
Then she figured out she was still injured and like the last time she was sick, she might not go home until she got better.
When she overheard the maids serving saying that it would have been better to be in the capital, with all the precious herds used for healing wounds, she thought it would be better to return to the capital first, so she didn't want to stay any longer, she could get treatment there and maybe after she got better she would be able to return home. All she could do was to be patient and see how things turned out.
"You seem to really want to return to the Capital as quickly as possible." Zhang Zhengyang commented.
Zhao Xing didn't want to tell him she was only eager because she was hoping to return home on time, "Haven't seen my two maids in a while, I miss them." She said passively.
"Oh? You even miss them?"
"Why won't I? I even got them souvenirs from my trip to Little Merchant City." Zhao Xing said this and remembered the things she got. Luckily they weren't lost during the time of the assassination. If they had been underpowered and they had to run for their lives, they wouldn't have been able to take all their belongings with them and many things would have been lost. Thinking back, the Crown Prince was really something.
In the future she wouldn't underestimate him.
"You even got them souvenirs?" Zhang Zhengyang asked. He had seen her bring a lot of things with her, he thought they were all for her.
Zhao Xing remembered her time in Little Merchant City, that period was the best during the whole time she had spent outside the capital.
She nodded.
The feeling of getting people souvenirs felt so good. In her world she didn't travel much, and even if she did, it wasn't wouldn't be so far away, more like it didn't feel so far away, especially because of the different vehicles she could use.
In this world one would need to pay attention the time spent on the road than just the destination. If she was able to return to her world she'd surely love to travel around to far places and see how it would be. At least where she came from, one didn't need to really worry about bandits, or assassins while they journeyed around. Besides she was just a high school students, none if her friends came from any formidable family, so she didn't have to worry about bringing too much attention to herself.
"You get them all souvenirs, what about this prince."
Zhao Xing rolled her eyes, "Can you have a bit more shame? You have everything, what would I get you that you haven't seen before, or don't have better. I'm not that rich, I don't have the money to get something worthy of your attention."
Zhang Zhengyang knew this, but he was bored, why not tease her a bit more?
"It's the intention that matters."
Zhao Xing refused to pay attention to him.
The Crown Prince saw she didn't respond, chuckled and didn't speak further.
"Um, take this" a jade pendent was delivered in the girl's outstretched hand, stunning him.
"I just picked it up during my stay." It was thanks to him that she could keep all her things, and it was also his money, so, she couldn't be stingy with what wasn't even actually hers, right?
The Crown Prince looked at the pendent and took it from her hand, it looked familiar.
The pendent was Zhao Xing's favorite. She had just let her hand into her little pouch to pull out whatever, who would have thought she would pull out the thing she got herself.
The pendent was simple looking, having no decoration, it was just round, but she found it pleasing to the eye and got it anyway. She wasn't someone that actually cared about jewelry, she just liked the feeling of being rich, and pretty. If someone were to tell her that jewelry didn't look good on her, or that it didn't make her look expensive, she wouldn't pick up jewelry ever again, but this one really pleased her.
She looked at Zhang Zhengyang and felt a bit irritated. He had everything, still asking a poor girl like her for souvenirs, he was really good, wasn't he?
The Crown Prince on the other hand remembered where he had seen the jade pendent and smiled. She had had it in her hand when she returned from the city close to the border. That time he had tried to take it from her but she hadn't let go and held onto it even after he had carried her to her room. That day he thought it must be very precious to her. Who would have thought she would give it to him.
He looked up at her and indeed, she was sulking while looking at the jade pendent in his hand.
Zhang Zhengyang held back his laughter, "This jade pendent isn't bad looking, you really have good taste, it's hard to find good stuff form such a small city, why don't you keep it instead?"
Zhao Xing saw he had the guts to refuse and got even more irritated, "I don't take back stuff I gave out, you better keep it."
She said folding her hands but she had shaken her wound and winced in pain.
"I told you to be careful, I told you we should stay a bit longer so you could fully recuperate but you never listen to this prince." Zhang Zhengyang quickly sat beside her.
The topic changed quickly, and Zhao Xing who was looking for a way to settle scores with him was scolded instead.
He scolded her a bit more but seeing her glaring at him, looking as if he was some bad guy, Zhang Zhengyang didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She was the one who gave it to him, she wouldn't take it back after he had declined, now she shook too much and hurt herself, this was also because of her negligence. Why was she having that look as if it was all his fault?
