The afternoon class was History of Magic, held together with Slytherin.
Sitting diagonally in front of Wade was a boy with pale blond hair, accompanied by two chubby followers.
Wade recognized the boy as Draco Malfoy, the minor antagonist from the original story who had been at odds with the protagonist for seven years.
However, relations between Slytherin and Ravenclaw were decent, and Malfoy wasn't spewing venom at everyone he saw.
On the contrary, aside from his slightly arrogant tone and his tendency to subtly flaunt his family background and wealth, he was relatively polite in the classroom.
But when it came to his nemesis, Harry Potter, that is a different story.
When Professor Binns phased through the wall and appeared in the classroom, Malfoy was still bad mouthing Harry Potter to his followers:
"Always showing off that scar on his head like it's something special—hanging out with that smelly Weasley, all covered in the stench of their poverty—"
The surrounding Ravenclaws all turned to look and quietly distanced themselves from the Slytherins.
—No matter what the future holds, right now Harry Potter is still a hero in the minds of many wizards, and most of the children at the school grew up hearing his story.
Naturally, Draco Malfoy's words caused some resentment, while also reminding others of some facts that had been overlooked.
"I heard that Malfoy—I mean Draco Malfoy's father was a Death Eater who followed You-Know-Who-" Michael whispered to Wade:
"They say after You-Know-Who was defeated by Harry Potter, his father claimed he was under the Imperius Curse and donated a lot of money to the Ministry of Magic to avoid going to prison.
Just look at him, it's obvious his father still resents Harry Potter for defeating his master, and Draco picked up on that..."
Wade shook his head silently.
He knew that Draco Malfoy probably hadn't thought it through that deeply; initially, it seemed he even wanted to be friends with Harry Potter, but his arrogant attitude offended Harry—how can a proud young master like him take such a slight?
And so, he stubbornly opposed the savior ever since.
"Don't take it lightly, and don't get close to Malfoy," Michael warned. "His family is one of those obsessed with blood purity among the Sacred Twenty-Eight."
"The Sacred Twenty-Eight?" This touched on a knowledge gap for Wade.
"They're twenty-eight pure-blood families with no Muggles in their ancestry, and none of their members have married Muggles," Michael said casually.
"But my dad says it's all nonsense because many of the families on the list actually have Muggle ancestors, or they claim to have Muggle ancestors."
… … … … … … … … … … … ...
There's no denying it: History of Magic was a mind-numbingly boring class.
The ghost professor Binns taught by droning on in a monotonous, sleep-inducing voice, reading straight from the book. He didn't ask questions or care what the students were doing, and he spoke with a huffing sound, and his tone was muddled and unclear.
Within five minutes, half the students were slumped over their desks, and the remaining half were either dozing off or secretly playing board games on the parchment meant for taking notes.
Wade tuned out Professor Binns' hypnotic voice and began sketching a timeline on his paper, listing important dates, historical figures, and major events in the history of magic—
These are exactly the kinds of things covered in wizarding history exams.
Beside him on the desk lay a copy of "Hogwarts: A History" that he had borrowed from the library.
Comparing the two, it was hard not to imagine the grand adventures and struggles the four founders of Hogwarts must have experienced, and to ponder what role Hogwarts had played over the past thousand years.
History itself is actually fascinating; it's just that Professor Binns made the class utterly dull.
As soon as class ended, Professor Binns' voice abruptly stopped, and he floated leisurely through the wall and away.
Wade woke Michael up, and the two of them headed to the library to finish their History of Magic assignment—a one-foot-long essay on the tyrannical rule of Emeric the Evil.
"No one at Hogwarts is as diligent as you," Michael muttered as he worked on his assignment. "I bet the other students are all waiting until the last day to start theirs!"
Just as he finished speaking, a shaky figure passed by them—Hermione, who was carrying a thick stack of books. She stopped when she saw Wade and placing the books on the table with such force that Michael thought he felt the entire desk shake.
"Hi, Wade," Hermione greeted him as she sat down and asked, "How's Ravenclaw?"
"Other than having too many stairs to climb, it's pretty good," Wade replied.
"Hermione, this is Michael Corner. Michael, this is Hermione Granger—we met on the train."
"Hello," Hermione said with the enthusiastic courage of a Gryffindor, extending her hand. "Are you a Ravenclaw too?"
Michael glanced at the towering stack of books, swallowed nervously, shook her hand, and hesitantly said, "M-Maybe?"
In their presence, he suddenly felt he might not be worthy of calling himself a Ravenclaw.
"—Maybe?" Hermione frowned.
Sensing some sort of blood suppression of some kind of biological chain, Michael seemed to shrink a little and quietly asked, "Can I ask…why did you take so many books? Are you planning to read them all?"
"Of course! These are the books I plan to finish this week," Hermione replied matter-of-factly.
Michael's face turned pale as he glanced at Wade with a look that seemed to say—what's going on? A week? Is she even more intense than you?
Wade raised an eyebrow at him.
Michael stopped complaining about Wade dragging him along to do homework and focused on completing the rest of his essay. Meanwhile, Wade, who had already finished his essay, continued working on his timeline.
"Oh, this method of yours is actually quite useful," Hermione said as she leaned over to take a look. She suggested, "But I think it would be more insightful if you combined it with Muggle history."
"Yeah, I plan to add that later," Wade replied, pushing his completed portion toward her. "You've read more books than I have. Could you take a look at the first part and see if there's anything that needs to be revised?"
"Let me see." Hermione didn't hesitate, carefully reading through it before saying:
"Here, the exact date of the invention of the wand is unknown. Melaina Sims' main contribution was researching the magical properties of eighteen different wand woods, proposing the wand compatibility theory and the Sims Formula..."
She pulled a book from her stack and quickly flipped through it. "In 382 B.C., the Ollivander family began making wands, and to this day, Ollivanders remains the best wandmaker. I think this might be a potential exam point..."
Her quill moved swiftly across the parchment as Madam Pince occasionally cast wary glances their way, seemingly ready to throw them out if they got too loud.
Meanwhile, Michael, who was still working on his essay, felt increasingly insignificant. After listening for a while, he quietly pulled out a piece of paper, preparing to copy Wade's revised History of Magic timeline.
Suddenly, something caught his eye, and he nudged Wade with his elbow, whispering, "Look!"
They saw Theo peeking into the library from the doorway. He had probably just come back from Herbology, still covered in greenhouse soil, and Madam Pince had forbidden them from entering.
When Theo caught Wade and Michael's eyes, he waved happily, signaling them to come out.
Wade said goodbye to Hermione, and he and Michael packed up their things and headed out. At the door, they found both Ryan and Theo waiting, looking dirty from head to toe.
Wade asked, "Is something urgent?"
The two Hufflepuffs exchanged glances, and Ryan nodded toward Theo, saying, "You tell him, it was your idea to ask Professor Sprout."
Theo grinned, "Wade, this morning you mentioned wanting to find a quiet place to practice spells, right? Professor Sprout teaches our Herbology class and is also our Hufflepuff Head of House.
I stayed after class to help her, and afterward, I mustered up the courage to ask her—"
