The next day in school, Nash had quite a few choice words to come and speak to me about.
Early morning before homeroom began, Nash began his sleuth of poetry. Wordplay beyond measure.
"I trusted you, edward! I thought both of us were anti-social idiots, why in the world did you do that? Do you ever peel off papered ice cream, find some of the cream stuck to the paper, lick it off and get some of the goddamn paper in your tongue? You are that! That piece of paper is what you are."
[Woah, what a wordsmith. Host, you should probably make note of this stuff.]
No shit, I should have. More than feeling insulted, I was in complete awe of Nash.
But taking out a book and writing his words right would probably make him use his hands next. My memory was strong, I won't forget.
"Come on, you want me to go to the amusement park with people I don't know? What kind of introvert are you?"
I shrugged at his words.
"I am not an introvert. I just don't talk to people I find boring…"
I turned my eyes away. Yes. That was right. People who were too passionate or too talented or too serious did not mesh well with me.
But now that I had to choose between going to the damned amusement park or getting killed by the system. My choice was quite obvious.
It was a little saddening, but what can you do? It was time to roll out my people charm.
I was going to prove my mom wrong. She always said I had no friends.
That said, I saw it as a good opportunity. Maybe I could write an amusement park episode in my novel as well?
The Main Character is quite stoic, so his love interests dragging him to an amusement park would work well.
Nash sighed.
"Fine. If you need me with you so much, I'll come along."
My eyes widened.
That was unexpected.
"You got convinced easily…"
Nash smiled at me as he adjusted his glasses. The timid boy who was fierce like a wolf just moments ago was once again as small as a puppy.
"You look like you're having fun, Edward. It is different from how you were all of last month."
I reeled back at his words. Was that so?
From the back, another person chimed in.
"He's right. I think you've been too impatient these last few weeks. But since Monday you look pretty good."
"Baldy…"
I was a little surprised. It had only been a few weeks since the term had begun, and yet these guys could observe me that much?
That said, did Baldy hear everything we had said? He must have wanted to come along too, but I was not the one who could invite someone.
If I asked Ray, would it not be imposing too much?
While these thoughts entered my mind, someone tapped their hands on my desk.
I looked up and found a short girl with red hair standing right in front of us.
She had her arms crossed. Her school blazer and the skirt seemed a little too big for her stature, but it also suited her perfectly.
The girl stared at us with narrowed gazes. I didn't catch her name, but I had seen her hanging around Ray and his other friends.
She was one of the groupies! This was bad!
"You're Edward, right? And Nash?"
She knew us.
Nash awkwardly nodded. This idiot was a scorn on all introverts. Come on! Don't get all shy and finicky! But then again, he was that type of person.
I decided to take over the conversation for him.
"That's right," I said. "You are…"
"Sophie. You two are coming along for the trip right? Ray said he asked you."
I smiled at her words.
"That's right. But are you sure it is okay? Neither of us would want to intrude between friends."
[Shocking! You can actually talk to people?!]
I almost frowned when I saw the system's message, but held it in. Of course I can talk to people, you bastard. I work in customer service at one of the biggest cake studios in the city. Talking to people is never a problem.
"What? Intrude?" The girl Sophie scrunched her brows as if she found my words weird. An amused, almost sly smile took over her lips. "We're all going to become better friends. It has only been a few days since school started…"
Right…
That was right. Yes, indeed. I turned to face Nash and shrugged. Our eyes were enough to communicate.
'See? This is how mature people handle things.'
'It's not you, its the extrovert that's crazy. The extrovert'
I was happy to see Nash come out of his shell with me.
"Anyway, give me your numbers. I'll add you to the group chat."
Thankfully, it didn't seem like she was here to interrogate us or push us out. That wouldn't have been too surprising.
I put out my QR Code, while Nash was about to start reciting his phone number. In this day and age, come on.
"Funny guy," Sophie said at Nash's antics. She then turned to the third member with us. "Jim, right?"
Jim? Who was Jim?
The baldy nodded for some reason. Oh right, Baldy was Jim. I had deleted that memory, it was sad. Delete it again, delete it. He is just Baldy.
"You wanna come along?" Sophie said.
"I'd be… happy too… But I am bald…"
"I-is that a problem…?" Sophie muttered, shocked. "They don't allow baldies in the park?"
I could see why they'd do that. Anyone who sees a man younger than them going completely bald would be sad.
Wait. No.
I intervened again.
"He means he'd love to. The bald thing was a joke."
Sophie nodded again.
"Right… funny guys…"
Talk about a bad first impression.
"I'll add you all to the group. We are going this Sunday!"
Sophie said those words and rushed back to her seat.
How troublesome.
[Hm… now then, how many friends should I ask you to make?]
This evil system. Even though it had just seen how strong the AT Fields of these two idiots were.
It seemed I was going to have my work cut out for me.
