This is a very slow romance novel The novel may have realistic elements but it is a Work of FICTION. Please allow for some artistic license. There will be medical cases and scenario's included due to the main character (Li Xiuying) being a doctor. I have tried my best to explain as much of the medical terminology as possible. I'll also try and put some sources in where possible. ...........................................................................................

Where Is The Humanity?

Li Xiuying: "Elder Qin, Mr. Qin Song. Please sit on either side of the bed facing me so I can explain the current situation?"

Qin Song picked up a chair and placed it next to Qin Xian Jun: "Father."

Once his father was seated. Qin Song then picked up the chair that Elder Qin was originally sitting on and moved it so he could sit next to Qin Jie.

Li Xiuying started explaining the diagnosis of appendicitis, the management and treatment options.

Li Xiuying: "I'm 99.99% sure that its appendicitis, I would like Qin Zhen to have a CT scan just for further confirmation of the diagnosis and to see whether the inflammation has affected any of the bowel before the surgery. We would also like to start an antibiotic drip. I would like to add that Qin Zhen will need to be nil by mouth for the surgery to take place, which means no eating and drinking anything including water. "

Li Xiuying: "Qin Zhen are you happy to have a CT scan? "

Qin Zhen nodded.

Li Xiuying: "One, go and open the door."

One walked to the door confused. 'Why would Dr. Li ask me to open the door all of a sudden?'

As One opened the door he was met with the startled face of a radiographer.

The radiographer was befuddled: How did he open the door before I even knocked?

Li Xiuying "Qin Zhen this person is here to go take you for a scan. Another person will ask you some questions before you have a scan. You'll also have to change into a gown. One of your family members can accompany you."

Qin Jie picked up Little 4th and walked to the radiographer. "Let's go."

Li Xiuying spoke to the radiographer: "I want a non-contrast CT."

The radiographer turned on his heels and led Qin Jie and Little 4th to the CT scanner.

....

Qin Song looked at Qin Xian Jun: "Well?"

Qin Xian Jun: "Dr. Fu Meng and Dr. Cheng Wu graduated from City Medical University, No.120 and no.164 respectively. Since Graduating, from residency until today they have collectively caused the direct and indirect deaths of over 50+ people, through incorrect diagnosis, erroneous prescribing, negligence, wrong treatment, being absent when on call, and the list goes on. "

Dr. Fu and Dr. Cheng began slowly dropping to their knees.

Director Bing felt as if his soul was leaving him: "My God, Where is the humanity?"

Qin Xian Jun continued: "Just in the last year Fu Meng has received over 200+ complaints against him from patients and their families as well as staff members. Cheng Wu has received 100+ complaints. The complaints were generally about their less-than-stellar bedside manner, their inattention during consultations, wrong diagnoses, etc. This list goes on. Fu Meng's father is the head of the pediatric department and Chen Wu's father is the head of the pediatric psychiatric unit. Their fathers wielded their power to control the staff at the hospital. They ordered people to cover up for the actions of their sons and to make the complaints disappear."

Fu Meng was shaking: "They were mistakes anyone could have made. We won't make the same mistakes again, we've learned from everything that has happened."

Cheng Wu had tears and snot dripping down his face. 'Father save me.'

Fu Meng: "Those complaints were unfounded..."

Qin Song silenced Fu Meng with a look that promised to utterly destroy his tiny life.

Qin Xian Jun: "Their fathers were able to pay off the patients who complained about the general conduct of Fu Meng And Chen Wu. However, the families who had lost their relatives weren't as easy to buy off. Some families accepted the settlement but the majority refused.

Those families that refused to be bribed and tried to seek justice were denied legal representation with the excuse of insufficient evidence for a case or were strung along by various courts and kept having the trial dates changed. For some families, it was even worse. The primary breadwinner mysteriously lost their jobs and no one else was willing to hire them. They had no way to earn money and had to retreat to their villages or try to find jobs that would pay them off the record."

There was a heavy silence that blanketed the room.

After some time Li Xiuying broke the silence: "Mmm. So you were qualified doctors, but not qualified humans. I didn't realize you could be one without the other."

Even in Li Xiuying's past life when she had been forced to gradually morph into a "surgical machine", she hadn't lost her moral integrity. She had never treated the life of another so recklessly.

Qin Song: "Neither of them nor their fathers will be doctors after today. I think it's time for a complete system restructuring. I don't want anyone who was involved in this insidious cover-up to come within a 100-mile radius of this hospital."

Elder Qin: "We'll have your cousin take over as director. Jun call her back from the US." The Qin's were major investors in Unity Hospital it wouldn't be difficult for them to take over. Not only was Elder Qin on the Board of directors he was also an honorary board member on the board of trustees.

Qin Xian Jun: "Yes."

Director Bing howled: "I didn't know. I didn't know what was happening. I would never have let this..."

Qin Song's sharp voice cut him off "Do you think your ignorance will save you? How many lives were lost because of your ignorance?! Your ignorance was going to add Little 4th to their body count!"

Director Bing fell into a chair and sobbed: "I didn't know! I didn't know!"

Fu Meng and Cheng Wu both sobbed hysterically whilst begging for leniency. They began kowtowing until the skin on their foreheads was torn. Blood was dripping down their faces and it looked like they were crying tears of blood. What would they do if they lost their careers? Even worse the whole of China would know what they did, how would they even show their faces in public?

But who would give them sympathy? How many families had cried tears of blood when they lost their loved ones? How many tears were shed when these families were cornered and caged by the justice system? So what if they were now crying tears of blood?! What about the blood of their victims?

Their borrowed time had finally come to an end, Karma had finally come to collect.
