From the sands

They looked down over the endless sand sea standing above a stone tower. "Why do they put a watch over here?" the first one said, his whole face covered in black cloth, showing only his jade eyes.

"I don't know. I heard stories about giant sandworms and people who worship them, and the weird ones across the sands," the other replied, peering with his black eyes.

"You mean the elves and the dwarves. They have no business with us."

"Still, it's better safe than sorry."

"That's a load of bull—that's what it is."

"Oh, what do we have here? The clever Kevin?" he said sarcastically.

"Shut it, Charles," he rebutted.

Kevin looked to the west and saw another tower, and above it, two more stood guard like them. His eyes went down over the machicolations and the stones that made it and down to the floor. A desert lizard crawled above the wall like a speck.
