I thought I was ready to face death.

Huh?... What is this irritating feeling?... I feel so sticky all over my body. Is someone licking me?

Wait!... Stop!... Arghhh!... I can't move. Damn it!... I hope it is not some kind of a pervert who has a fetish of licking someone else body.

The licking sensation goes on for a while but somehow, the irritating feeling starts to be replaced by a recovering feeling.

I guess whoever is doing this is trying to help... Wait!... How come I'm still alive after directly receiving that Fire Magic attack from the Mystic-Wolf?

And if it is this licking, don't tell me the wolves are the doing it?

Did they win the fight?... Did Herd and the Alpha-Wolf really defeat the Rank_C Mystic-Wolf?

After a moment of continuously being licked by wolves, I was finally able to gain enough strength to open my eyes and move my body.

I still couldn't stand but I was able to sit myself on the ground and observe the outcome of our battle against the Rank_C Mystic-Wolf.

"We really did win."

The almost three-meter-big lifeless body of Mystic-Wolf is lying on the ground just twenty meters in front of me. The obsidian color of its fur has already lost luster but the dull black color that its current appearance now is still appealing.... Wait... That is not something I should be thinking about right now.

I look around to assess how much we have lost.

Out of the dozen Herd-Wolf, half of them are now lying on the ground and not moving or even breathing. They are all probably dead since none of the wolves are trying to heal them by licking like what they had done to me.

Only half of them survive, and thankfully, that includes Herd. However, in the case of the normal beast wolves, more than half of them got annihilated.

Some of them probably got taken out by the Fire Magic Explosion and more while I'm lying on the ground watching and acting like a complete idiot and coward. I guess I got a little bit lucky to be able to survive two Fire Magic attacks.

Considering how much we have lost to defeat the Rank_C Mystic-Wolf, the phrase... We won the battle but lost the war... really suit us. The Wolves have really shredded their numbers in this fight.

I can only hope that they can recover their numbers before another incident like this happens inside this forest.

However, if there is one silver lining in this situation is that the Alpha-Wolf and three of the Herd-Wolf including Herd managed to rank up or evolve while fighting or after defeating the Mystic-Wolf.

"Ugh!... Jeez!... I at least wanted to see them evolve with my own eyes. I bet that would be cool."

Herd's gray color just like the other Herd-Wolf now has a mixture of patterns of black and silver color and he is as big as the Alpha-Wolf now.

It is the exact appearance of an Alpha-Wolf.

They might have the same appearance but somehow, I can still recognize his smug looks among the other two Herd-Wolf who also managed to evolve.

"Idiot, Herd. Did you really rank up and evolve into an Alpha-Wolf?... If you stand now with your hindlimbs, you will definitely be bigger than me. I'm sure the old man will laugh at me if he learns about this... Hahaha..."

...GROWL!...

"Stop with that smug growl, you idiot wolf."

I guess this means that I won't be able to win against Herd any time soon. Not until I got stronger myself.

In terms of the Alpha-Wolf of our group, its appearance has also changed. It didn't become as big as the almost three meters Mystic-Wolf, it only grew around two meters.

However, it looks exactly like the Rank_C Mystic-Wolf with its elegant obsidian color that displays how superior he is and scream that... We did manage to defeat you, idiot Mystic-Wolf...

"Pfft!... Hahaha!... What exactly I'm laughing at my own thoughts... Jeez... Just don't get yourself Curse like that Mystic-Wolf new Boss Wolf."

While I'm resting, leaning at a tree a little bit far away from the body of the Curse Mystic-Wolf, the Alpha-Wolf that is now an evolved Mystic-Wolf along with the Herd-Wolfs that are now evolved Alpha-Wolf start doing something with the lifeless body of the Curse Mystic-Wolf.

At first, it looks like they are eating the body of the Curse Mystic-Wolf but after looking more closely, what they are actually doing is reaping and tearing its body apart.

It is only Herd who still looks like he is eating because he keeps on reaping deep inside the body of the Curse Mystic-Wolf.

After a while, each one of them started approaching me one by one.

The first new Alpha-Wolf places a Claw of the Curse Mystic-Wolf in front of me while the second one brings a Fang.

I actually don't understand why they are giving me these materials. Are they perhaps familiar with the concept of adventurers or hunters taking parts of the monster or beast they are hunting? Is this why they are giving me this as a reward for helping them?

After the two Alpha-Wolf, the next one to give his reward is the new Boss Wolf.

What he places in front of me is the hide of the Curse Mystic-Wolf, probably enough amount for a complete clothing and a coat to protect myself.

I wonder if this is his way of saying thank you to me for jumping in front of him and protecting him from the Fire Magic.

The last one is Herd.

His face is now covered in a lot of blood after tearing deep inside the body of Curse Mystic-Wolf but what he placed in front of me really surprised me.

It is the heart of the Curse Mystic-Wolf along with the Mana Crystals attached to it.

I don't know if adventurers or hunters usually take the Mana Crystals of the Magical Beast they are hunting and that is why Herd is giving me this as a reward or if he possibly understands that this is what I'm after in joining this fight.

Whatever it is I'm really thankful to him. With this, the old man can finally finish the cure that he is making for his sickness.

Everything unexpectedly went according to plan but I still have one problem.

"Hey!... Strong and magnificent Alpha-Wolf Herd... Can you perhaps give me a lift back to the old man's house? I don't think I have the strength to walk while carrying all these loots."

Even if how many times you show me that smug growl, that strong and magnificent Alpha-Wolf part is just a joke.
