Sig stood at the top of the stairs, looking at the holographic display in front of him. He had completed the mission, and now he had to choose his reward.
He paused to think for a moment, carefully considering his options. Should he choose an active or passive skill? He weighed the pros and cons of each. Active skills were powerful in the early stages and could give him a significant boost, but passive skills were more useful in the long run. Since his main goal was to progress through the first level, he needed to choose wisely.
After several moments of deliberation, Sig finally made his decision.
"I choose the active skill," he said aloud to the hologram.
The display flickered for a moment before revealing the chosen reward:
[Active Skill: Shadow Step]
[Shadow Step: is a powerful melee combat skill that allows you to teleport to a nearby location in a shadowy mist, leaving behind a smokescreen that blinds enemies. In addition, if you successfully land a hit within 1 second of using the skill, you are guaranteed a critical hit, making it a deadly move against your opponents. (Cooldown time: 60 seconds)]
Sig's heart raced with excitement. The skill was perfect for a situation where he needed to quickly get out of danger or reach a location that was difficult to access. He couldn't wait to see how this new ability would help him in his future endeavors. He felt a newfound sense of confidence as he made his way forward.
As Sig reached the top of the stairs, he found himself in a small room with two doors, each with a display above it. The holographic technology seemed to be integrated into the very fabric of this mysterious place. The door on the left displayed the text "Floor: 0-1-A", while the one on the right showed "Floor: 0-1-B".
Sig looked at the doors and their displays, trying to make a decision. He wondered if one of the doors would lead him to a different part of the level, or if they both led to the same destination. He knew that choosing the wrong door could mean facing tougher challenges, but he also knew that he couldn't stay in the lobby forever.
Sig took a deep breath, steeling himself for what lay ahead, and made his decision. He approached the door on the left, his hand reaching out to grasp the doorknob. As he stepped into the room beyond, a new mission materialized before him in the form of a holographic display:
-------------------------------
[Floor 0 - 1-A]
[Mission: Survive the enemy assault!]
[Time limit: 20 minutes]
[Reward: 1x Random Equipment]
[Failure: Death]
[Personalized Side-Mission: Defeat the enemy before the time limit!]
[Reward #2: Will depend on the duration taken to complete the Side-Mission]
-------------------------------
Sig's heart sank as he read the mission details. He had expected a challenge to appear eventually, but he didn't think it would happen so soon. Taking a deep breath, he tried to focus, reminding himself of his heightened senses that could help him locate any incoming enemy. With his active skill as a backup, he felt a glimmer of confidence as he prepared for the potential attack.
As he waited, Sig noticed something strange about the approaching footsteps. Although he could discern the individual's size from the sound wave, he couldn't hear any breathing or other indications of life. It was as if the footsteps were coming from a machine or an object, sending a chill down his spine. He remained alert and ready for anything, knowing he had to be prepared for the unexpected.
The sound of approaching footsteps grew louder. The noise had a distinct creaking quality, as if something made of wood was hitting against another wooden surface. It slowly dawned on him that his enemy was most likely a wooden doll of sort, but he knew better than to underestimate it.
Quickly assessing his surroundings for any potential advantage, Sig realized there was nothing within the room that could be used as a weapon. Feeling vulnerable and unprepared, he knew he had to face the enemy head-on or find a way to evade its assault. With no other option, he took a step back and prepared to use his Shadow Step ability to get behind the doll and attack it from the back.
However, just as he was about to use his skill, the doll suddenly lunged forward, its wooden arms swinging in his direction. With no means to dodge the attack and no weapon to defend himself, he braced himself for the impact.
Its arms swung with great force, and Sig struggled to block and dodge its attacks. The doll's movements were erratic, making it difficult for him to predict its next move.
Sig tried to use his Shadow Step ability to get behind the doll and strike it from behind, but the doll was too quick. It anticipated his move and spun around to face him once again.
Things were starting to feel overwhelming for him, and he knew he needed to come up with a way out. He looked around the room, searching for anything he could use as a weapon. But there was nothing, not even a loose piece of furniture.
Sig focused on evading the doll's relentless attacks while observing its movements for an opportunity to strike. Eventually, he noticed a pattern in the doll's swings after dodging several more attacks. He seized his chance and swiftly rolled under the doll's swinging arms, landing behind it. In a quick motion, he kicked the doll hard in the back, causing it to topple forward. Capitalizing on the opportunity, he grabbed one of the doll's arms and twisted it with all his might, resulting in a loud snap and leaving the doll with one less arm.
Without hesitation, he wielded the broken arm as a makeshift weapon, activated his [Shadow Step] ability, and teleported behind the wooden doll, delivering a powerful swing to its head. The strike was so forceful that, due to the guaranteed critical strike, both the doll's head and the makeshift weapon shattered into millions of pieces. Exhausted and a bit shaken, Sig leaned against the wall and caught his breath.
