Before summer started, Lucas had already made a couple of arrangements with Mr. Zheng and his co-workers at the confectionery kitchen — all because he wished for a long break.
Both men were allowed to request a leave once they reached their sixth month. Lucas let Mr. Zheng go on a holiday first. He applied for a break in early August.
He wanted to fulfill a promise, carved less than a year ago.
Lucas took up more shifts than usual amidst his already hectic schedule during the summer rush. He chose to have only one day off every week, intending to accumulate the rest for later.
Aware that Liliana would be worried if she learned about his plan, Lucas said nothing. It was his selfish desire to go to her instead of having her come to him like always.
