Chapter 34: Rodents of the Road

The next morning, the convoy continued eastward, the sense of tension still hanging over them after the attack by the shriekers. They'd managed to survive the night, but everyone was on edge, knowing that more dangers lay ahead. As the sun rose higher in the sky, casting a pale light over the ruined landscape, George noticed the remnants of a small town off in the distance.

He signaled for the convoy to slow down, pulling the lead vehicle to the side of the road as the others followed suit.

"We should check it out," George said to the group. "There might be supplies we can use, food, weapons, anything that'll help."

Raven nodded. "We need to replenish what we've used up. But we have to be careful. There could be more of those things, or worse, hiding inside."

"Let's split up," George suggested. "Cover more ground, but stay alert. If anything looks off, pull back immediately."
