Conquest of Redwater

In front of Victor is one of the five elite soldiers that went to sea with Oberyn and Attilius. His name is Silva and he added one scar on his cheek since the last time he met Victor. They were currently in the large main hall in the Di Natale estate in Canahs, in which the most important meetings of the Di Natale family take place. Every meeting involving military conflict is to be held here and only important male members of the family are allowed to pass this place. Apart from Emilio and Amando Di Natale many important guardians of the family are present to listen to the war report.

After everyone was seated and the hall quieted down Silva began his report:

"It took us roughly three days to reach the island of Redwater. Unfortunately, we have been already spotted by a scout ship of the pirates before we could land on the island itself. Minutes before docking our ships many pirates were already gathered at the small port of the island. The number of pirates was roughly 600, but they lacked equipment and were completely undisciplined. Immediately after jumping down the ship a bloody battle broke out. Our soldiers trained in the roman phalanx immediately scared the pirates a lot after killing roughly 50 people within minutes. Their poor discipline was already showing as many started to back down and already thought about quitting. A few of our sharpshooters used bow and arrow to kill a few pirate leaders and the rest of the fight was relatively easy without many casualties, as they couldn't even break our armor. Most of the last three months was spent trying to build a mature stronghold and killing the rest of the pirate dens on the island. Due to the large forest and unknown locations, it took quite a while, and we lost 30 brothers due to traps and ambushes.

In the end we managed to uproot all the pirate dens on the island, killing roughly 400 pirates and capturing another 700 hundred. The pirate survivors are now used as slave labor to repair the stronghold in the south of the city and the port. After many years without maintenance the port is in a horrible condition and not ready to face many ships for trade. 

While uprooting the pirate dens we freed an additional 1500 slaves. Many of them women in to be frank quite horrible conditions. Nearly all of them have been raped many times and their physical condition was more than worrying. Quite a lot of them were even pregnant and all of them had eyes full of despair. After freeing them many choose to commit suicide by jumping down a cliff. Attilius was extremely angry at the sight and immediately killed every pirate leader he captured.

The male slaves were all skinny and full of illnesses. Oberyn honestly had no use for any of them. Attilius gave them the option to stay at the stronghold and gather fruits or set traps for animals. Many of them died of illness in the last month, but some managed to survive and grow stronger and are now following Attilius as a replacement for the fallen brothers.

Oberyn managed to make a map of the whole island and noted all the available resources of Redwater. As expected, we found three larger iron ore mines and a lot of very good wood resources. The sailors and shipbuilders of the Norath family were quite excited. Their investment seemed to be paid of already if they gathered some of the available resources.

Oberyn found two very special resources on the island. First a brown plant like bamboo, but with a very sweet liquid coming out if you cut it open. The flavor seemed very nice, and Oberyn has never seen anything quite like it. The plants have been hidden quite deep in the forest and it looked like no human has been anywhere near for at least tens of years. Young master Victor, you requested to find some special resources on the island to stimulate industry and trade. Oberyn is quite sure that planting, harvesting, and selling the sweet liquid would be a great addition for the city of pleasure, Lys, and would be quite a good trade item for nobles of Westeros.

The second item is related to the brown bamboo plant. In the bamboo forest are an extremely large number of bees. But not any kind of bee, they are blood red colored and look quite hideous. I guess nobody wanted to get anywhere close to them. A slave maid told us about them and how they were quite friendly to her, even though they looked rather big and deadly. Truthfully, we were very skeptical at first, but Oberyn didn't want to take a chance to miss a treasure and offered a slave mercenary freedom if he tried his luck. The slave mercenary managed to prove the little slave maids' statement, as they bee were extremely harmless. They produced some kind of red honey in the trees surrounding the bamboo forest. It is extremely delicious and fascinating in color. Both of those products would make for a great sugar and honey plantation."

All the members of the Di Natale family were getting excited. Not only could they conquer an island and increase the land controlled by the family, but they were also even gaining another way to increase the income of the family. Understandable, as due to Victor's achievement not only the life of his biological family improved, but the resources also used on the guardians of the family improved as well. They gained access to more luxurious houses; their woman could wear luxurious clothes and perfume and their children had more resources for education. Everybody thankfully looked at their young master, as he was the person to push for this decision to conquer Redwater.
