After the night in the colosseum ended a day like no other followed in Lys. The whole city seemed awfully quiet. Everybody that participated in the event last night wanted nothing more than rest and a quiet environment. During this peaceful day many people were not at all in the mood to relax. Mace Tyrell mood hit rock bottom since the death of his gladiators and never improved since then. The nobles of the Reach decided to send him home as soon as possible. Honestly, they had no idea how Lady Olenna would deal with this mess. But they knew the prestige of House Tyrell would take a hit from now on and it would take years before Mace Tyrell could take on a heavy responsibility again.
Jamie Lannister fell into a deep sleep after returning to his residence. The event in the colosseum exhausted the child mentally and physically. Kevon Lannister was conflicted about the way Jamie conducted himself. On the one hand a merciful heir to the Lannister family was certainly in his interests, on the other hand he knew his brother Tywin very well, probably the best in the world. He would never show mercy, he disdains weakness. Jamies decision would disappoint him a lot. In the end only the thought of Jamies unshakable status as the heir of the Lannister family could console his worries a bit. No matter the future Jamie would become the heir to Casterly Rock, he was sure of it now.
Eddard Stark and his friend Robert Baratheon were eating breakfast in a seaside villa sponsored by the Di Natale family. Emilio Di Natale offered a residence to many important noble families of Westeros while they visited Lys.
"It was a great experience, wasn't it Ned? I told you visiting Lys and the colosseum would leave you with no regrets. I still feel full of enthusiasm when I think of yesterday. Attilius is truly a great fighter. I will ask Amando Di Natale for an introduction next time we meet!"
Eddard could understand the passion of his friend, he really could. Most of the evenings he was on the edge of the seat. The atmosphere and passion of the arena really captured him and his emotions. But he was still conflicted about the decision he made yesterday.
"It was certainly a great experience, but the situation about Mace Tyrell still gives me a headache. It feels like this situation caused many conflicts without reason. Don't you feel weird?" Ned asked full of confusion.
"Don't bother with all the nonsense Ned. The dogs of the south don't matter anyway. The people of the Stormlands disdain the soft nobles of the Reach anyways. You are living in the North and the little paws of House Tyrell can't reach you even if they wanted to. Mace Tyrell, this piece of waste wood, will never be a problem and Lady Olenna, no matter how wise people think she is, in the end is still only a widow. Don't bother with them. As long as the Targaryen king is still on the throne no noble family will make any big moves anyway." Robert said arrogantly with his loud voice.
Eddard Stark wasn't completely convinced but he had to admit that his friend got a point. If the name of the king was still Targaryen, no other noble family would attack each other on a large scale. And the people of the North were not afraid of conflicts anyway.
The most unfaced by yesterday's decision was Brynden Tully, the Blackfish. He enjoyed the whole process of the drama as he didn't care about the consequences for House Tully anyways. He was even happy if he could cause some minor troubles for his older brother. After the event we visited the Goddess' Touch and enjoyed a very touching evening. He would start his return journey the next day leaving him with quite a good impression of Lys and the Di Natale family that sent him the invite.
Oberyn and Victor were seated on the balcony of the seaside courtyard owned by Victor in Canahs. Both having breakfast together after an important event in Lys was slowly becoming a sort of ritual. Sitting in the shade of the palm trees and enjoying the gentle see breeze was a simply but fulfilling enjoyment.
"You surprised me quite a lot Victor. It doesn't suit you very well to make it difficult for another noble family in such an obvious way. I am sure Lady Olenna will notice how you put Mace Tyrell in a very difficult position on purpose. Why would you mess around with House Tyrell like that?" Oberyn asked with a little confusion.
"To be honest I was getting bored, and I took a chance to cloud the water. Even if I offended Lady Olenna, so what? I won't set foot on the soil of Westeros for many years. Mace Tyrell is not even worth taking a second look in my eyes and his dear mother won't be able to hurt me in any way even if she wanted to. Even if I meet her in the future I will certainly be in a stronger position. I never put myself under a dangerous wall. For me this little experiment was very successful. I can see the attitudes of the noble families of Westeros to each other and towards the crown. Even if you forget all the rational reasons ... wasn't it incredibly funny?" Victor started his speech rather calmly but in the couldn't help laughing out loud.
Oberyn joined in the fun as well. Just the thought of Mace Tyrells facial expressions filed the heart of the dornish youth with pure joy. After calming down Oberyn continued.
"Now that we took control over three islands of the Stepstones and even have a solid foundation laid down we should plan the next steps. Where would you like to attack next?"
