Bear Island, 289 AC, Alisa Mormont POV.
Alisa is extremely happy, her mother had given birth to a younger sister, Lyanna. A cute and small babe have joined the Mormont family. Though, they cannot openly celebrate it, as Jorah's wife had another stillborn. Their family had grown, Alisa too had change. Nine name days, now she looks like a five and ten name days, acts like it too. This past three years, the Bear Island was getting richer with the abundance of Seafood business in most of Westeros. They were able to trade too, though in miniscule amount only, as the ships they took from the Ironborn cannot accommodate the Seafood business. Fortunately, the business is on high demands on the Northern Houses, as food will always be a paramount importance to them. While on high demand, they were also high on supply, but they can only go so far as they are low on manpower. They tried recruiting, but few only accepted. Reasons, due to the inaccessibility of the Island itself. The Bear Island is large as two Empire.
As one of the high-ranking general of the Empire, she cannot work while low on manpower, she can't even make a Standing army. She was, however, able to create two groups from the two war galleys of Ironborn, thus, creating a Navy fleet for Bear Island.
As for the trades, Bear Island was able to trade to the Seagard or Riverlands, Lannisport, Old town's port town and the Redwyne's Arbor. They were able to trade fresh Seafood. Just by catching the Seafood, then keeping them alive from container with salt water.
Bear Island now also trade ice, both with saltwater, for preserving meat and vegetables, and regular ice for chilling drinks. They were still trying to accomplish making the ice cream as milk yielding animals such as cows or goats, but there's a difficulty for transportation.
Still, a wonderful day for Bear Island.
When suddenly, Maester Alwyn burst through the door, waking little Lyanna, wailing loud with her small lungs. The Midwife took Lyanna away, as ongoing pressure disrupted the once great atmosphere. Maege grunted, "What is it, Grey Rat?"
''It... It's Lord Stark, Lady Mormont. He... he's calling the banner, a rebellion have started.'' Mester Alwyn was wheezing for air, evident from running in haste when he got the raven scroll.
Jorah was startled, "Rebellion? Ah gods, whose rebellion is this now?" Maege, and Alisa on the side, was looking at the Maester for clarification.
"Iron Islands... Balon Greyjoy declared himself King of Iron Islands, and... brought rampage on Lannisport." Maester Alwyn finally calmed down, but the atmosphere did not.
Alisa, not wanting to left out, said, "Then, we got to battle. Always wanted to finish those squids, anyway." Before turning her attention to Jorah and Maege, she continued, "We can take advantage to this, Iron Island has many ships, that come with Shipwrights and Shipbuilders. Let's get them employed into our business, and Navy fleet. Our Fleet."
"We're bears, we do not need those people to define us." Maege huffed stubbornly. Alisa shook her head.
She looked at Jorah, "It has been nine years of summer. The commonfolks tells us that longer the summer, longer the winter comes. We need those ships and ship trade, when winter comes. Convince Lord Stark, to spare the ships, bring the Thralls and Saltwives to our business venture. Perhaps, they may find purpose other then being slaves."
Jorah looked at his genius cousin, contemplating her words, he nodded, "I will convince Lord Stark. We are Northerners. Winter is in our blood, whatever House words we differentiate. And bears stand together, and here we stand."
Maege still looks unconvinced but nodded in the end, along with Alisa, whos is determined look, both said, "Here we stand."
Jorah nodded too, turning his attention to Maester Alwyn, saying, "Convey our message to Lord Stark, Mormonts will come to Winterfell in half a moon's turn, when he receive the raven." Maester Alwyn nodded. Jorah then gave his focus to Alisa, "While we go to war, you'll be the Lady of Bear Island. I know you were made to battle and House management at the same time, but I'm putting you in-charge when I'm gone. Do you understand?"
Alisa shook her head, saying, "We can end the rebellion quickly if I'm there. Let me come with you. We can destroy the squids with my help, you know it is."
"Aye, but we're going to battle with Southern Houses, they are not like the North. I do not want them on your side when we battle. Besides, the recent business and managements were you orders, and the people of Bear Island benefitted from it, along the Northern trades."
Alisa looked for any false word or lie in Jorah's face, but found none, and to back his words, Maege said on the side, "I agree, you've proven yourself. I will be relieve if you're the one remain in Bear Island. We need it more than ever."
Alisa nodded, hesitating. "Atleast, ride with our five war galleys, fill them with our bears when you siege the Iron Island. And, one more request."
Jorah sighed, "What is it?"
"Take House Drumm's Ancestral Sword, Red Rain. I know you're honorable and all, but this rebellion will mark the end of all Houses in Iron Island. Better that we have it, than another Ironborn gets it, or other participating Houses. Say it's your war trophy." Alisa pleads.
Jorah sighed, "I'll try to get it for you, should the opportunity arises."
Alisa smiled, very satisfied from the answer.
Jorah ordered, "Ready the war galleys, tell the levies to start packing. And, tell the manservants to load a moon's worth of rations loaded up on the ships." There, he took the Mormont's Ancestral Valyrian Sword, Longclaw, patching it up on his sword belt, along with his dagger. Maege stood up, brandishing her double axe and her daggers.
Ironborn will burn.
I decided to change Lyanna Mormont's birth. She will be born four years earlier, as I have a another plan going.
