CHAPTER 123: Alone
My vision blurred as a fresh wave of tears threatened to spill over. It wasn't Nicola's harshness that was breaking me, but the unforgiving truth of her words. I'd tried to distance myself from Alexander, to create barriers between us. I'd fooled myself into believing I was strong enough to continue with this ruse.
If only I'd been stronger. If only I'd listened to the voice of reason when it warned me to stay away. But desire had clouded my judgment, and now the consequences were devastating.
