Chapter 7: The Humiliation Comes Too Quickly

All these years had passed, and she was still as domineering as ever.

Chen Kai sneered inwardly. The corridor wasn't large, but it wasn't small either - spacious enough for both of them to pass through side by side. Yet now she was accusing him of blocking her path. Wasn't this just a blatant attempt to make trouble?

"What's the matter? Has your hearing worsened over the years? Can't you hear what I'm saying? Can't you realize my position in the company? Be careful or I'll get the management to fire you!"

Observing his indifferent demeanor, Zhang Yu continued to mock him nonchalantly.

Honestly, other than despising her, Chen Kai had no other feelings towards this ex-girlfriend from his university days!

Their conflict quickly attracted the attention of a junior supervisor. He had long admired Zhang Yu's alluring body and now an opportunity presented itself. Why would he let it slip away?

With a waddle, the slightly overweight supervisor swaggered up and stopped next to Zhang Yu. His arms, thick as hams, naturally rested on Zhang Yu's shoulder.

"What's going on here, Zhang Yu?"

"Oh, it's Supervisor Xiao! This guy just started here, right? Look at him blocking my path," Zhang Yu complained.

She stamped her foot in anger and pouted, looking like she had been horribly wronged.

"What's your problem, rookie? Do you know that Zhang Yu is the rising star of our company? How come I didn't notice you before? Newbloods like you never know the rules. Call whoever brought you here and get the hell out together!"

Although Zhang Yu said he was new, new hires weren't rare in the company. Supervisor Xiao didn't think much about it. He angrily shouted at Chen Kai before turning to Zhang Yu with a smile: "No one will dare to make you angry again."

"On what grounds, would you fire me?"

Looking at the couple flirting in front of him, Chen Kai couldn't help but laugh. A sense of playfulness welled up in his heart.

"You have no right to fire me. On the contrary, I should consider whether to have you thrown out!" Chen Kai added, his smile growing larger.

In this city, anyone who got kicked out of Flying Bird wouldn't get a job in any reputable companies. As far as everyone was concerned, he was at the end of his rope.

But no one believed Chen Kai.

After a brief silence, onlookers began to snicker. How dare an outsider threaten to fire their supervisor?

Especially Supervisor Xiao, who stood frozen in shock. Had he heard wrong? This nondescript man dared to fire him?

"Zhang Yu, did you hear that? He says he wants to fire me?" Supervisor Xiao pointed at himself, laughing at what seemed like a big joke.

"Who is this idiot? He doesn't even know his place, but he wants to fire me. You know who I am, right?" He put his hands on his hips and looked down at Chen Kai. "This is my turf, my uncle is the General Manager!"

Nobody in this company dared to confront Supervisor Xiao!

Chen Kai didn't bother to pay attention to what he had just said. Instead, he focused on Zhang Yu's ID card attached to her chest.

"I don't care who your uncle is. Even if he is the General Manager, he can't ignore the company's rules and regulations!"

Even the boss had to abide by the company's rules and regulations, let alone a mere General Manager.

Most of the employees in the office area assumed that this new guy named Chen Kai was going to get the sack, especially after this confrontation with Supervisor Xiao.

Who doesn't know that the General Manager treats his nephew as his precious gem? This was the first time someone dared to rebuke Supervisor Xiao.

"Hey, newbie, I think you should apologize to the supervisor while you can!"

A man in a suit couldn't stand to watch anymore. If this were to continue, Chen Kai would surely get the boot.

"I suggest you pack your things and leave. Suppose the supervisor is generous enough, he might even give you some severance."

"Right..."

Other people immediately took turns to criticize Chen Kai, well aware of the whole situation from the beginning, but they now opted to suck up to Supervisor Xiao instead of supporting the right person.

Chen Kai shook his head helplessly. It seemed like he'd need to do something about the company culture for Qin Xiang's sake!

Not wanting to engage further with them, he pulled out his phone and dialed the General Manager's number in front of everyone.

"I give you five minutes to show up in front of me. Failure to do so will have consequences!"

Then he hung up and put away his phone in one swift motion, much to everyone's surprise.

He would prefer not to trouble the General Manager, but who was to blame for being the uncle of this idiot? Whoever brought up such a nephew must have been indulging in his bad behavior.

While his move shocked everyone, Supervisor Xiao was unfazed.

Supervisor Xiao swaggered over to a nearby seat, crossed his legs, and looked at Chen Kai as if he were an idiot: "I'll wait for you!"

As time ticked away and there were only five seconds left, everyone thought the General Manager would not show up when suddenly, a disheveled man rushed in through the front door.

Apparently in a rush, the man sprinted towards them, his chest heaving from exertion. His hair was soaked in sweat and two upscale take-out boxes swayed in his hand – if it weren't for his face, they would've mistaken him for a delivery guy.

Being a perceptive man himself, the General Manager immediately gathered what had happened, seeing Supervisor Xiao and the current situation.

Clearly, his clueless nephew had offended the boss!

Without a second thought, the General Manager immediately kneeled in front of Chen Kai, with so much haste that he even forgot to put down the take-out boxes in his hands.
