Chapter 13: Check For Bites!/Arc 2.4

Zhou Jian walked up to the approaching youth and took him to his vehicle after checking that he was uninjured. The procession of armored cars traveled back to S base, fighting off small groups of zombies along the way.

Zhou Jian couldn't help himself and started conversing with Chen Xiang, doing his best to not seem too familiar. Wang Tao ignored the reunited pair as he stared out the window, watching the wreckage and remains scattered across the roads.

"Hi, my name is Zhou Jian, and you?"

The green pupils immediately widened upon hearing the bame. Hastily composing himself, the boy nodded his head.

"I-I'm Chen Xiang. Thank you so much for saving me."

The general showed a small smile as he watched the nervous boy. Shaking his head, he brushed it off.

"It's no problem. How did you get in that situation anyway?"

"It's...it's long and complicated."

"The short story?"

"Well..."

Chen Xiang thought it over a bit before revealing a bit. As the older man soaked in the bit of information, the transmigrator couldn't help but wonder if the man had followed him as those ML's in the novel would.

Chen Xiang also couldn't help glancing over at Wang Tao. The striking silver hair and eyes were just as he'd remembered, complimenting the breathtakingly beautiful face he couldn't help but desire. He'd never read of two men following the MC and they definitely didn't keep the same appearance throughout.

He tried to remember the man's name but couldn't. Chen Xiang never thought it was important to know the name of a mere assistant and had ignored the man's presence most of the time since looking at the cold visage would make him sour.

Cheng Xiang wondered if he was Zhou Jian's subordinate, which would explain why he was with Zhou Jian and had the ability to traverse worlds as well. Although, looking at him now, the man seemed pretty high class for just a subordinate.

[ For some reason, his presence is more noticible than in the last world. Was he hiding himself on purpose before? ]

Shaking off the distracting thoughts, Chen Xiang soon ended the conversation with Zhou Jian, mentioning that he needed some rest. Turning and leaning against the car door, he closed his eyes before calling out in his head.

[ System, hurry and start the transfer ]

[ Yes host! ]

His brows furrowed a bit as he endured the pain and once the transfer was complete, he scanned through the information.

In this world, his identity was that of a rich young master also named Chen Xiang. His father, Chen An, ran a successful pharmaceutical company so Chen Xiang studied medicine from a young age. The original Chen Xiang had fallen in love with a model named Ming Yi. She was a famous model with millions of fans and many admirers.

Ming Yi was disgusted by Chen Xiang's courting but decided to make use of him to do her dirty work so that she could maintain her pristine image. When the apocalypse arrived, Chen Xiang and Ming Yi were at a restaurant for lunch. Chen Xiang, with his great love for her, bravely protected Ming Yi and the two tried to flee the city.

Unfortunately, after a few days of struggle, quickly ran into a group of zombies. Ming Yi, in an attempt to save herself, pushed Chen Xiang towards the approaching creatures and fled without hesitation, leaving the original Chen Xiang to be devoured alive while still in shock and disbelief.

Ming Yi eventually stumbled across a group from S base who saved her. When she returned with them, she met one of her admirers who had a high standing due to his ability and lived a life of comfort.

A few weeks after returning to S base, Chen Xiang unlocked water and wind abilities and insisted on joining Zhou Jian's group with whom he often went on expeditions. One day while walking through the base after returning from a mission, he met Ming Yi who was being doted on by the same admirer as last life.

"Chen Xiang!"

Ming Yi stared in disbelief as the young man smiled innocently at her.

"Miss Yi, you seem to be doing well. That's good, I was so worried about you after our unfortunate parting."

Concern swirled in the green eyes as Chen Xiang spoke. Despite the care shown, Ming Yi simply scowled at him.

[ He's alive and with the base's famous General Zhou at that. That Chen Xiang...he's shown his true colours now huh. ]

"Never knew that someone so crafty could feel concern."

The boy seemed taken aback, his hand covering his mouth in shock.

"How could you think such a thing?"

Ming Yi couldn't bear to hear his words any longer. Each sentence jabbed at a sore spot and was making her uncomfortable all over. The young lady opted to throwing a few insults to satiate herself before dragging her admirer away with her. As she passed by Chen Xiang, she tried to whisper a threat to prevent him from spreading the truth.

But before she could say anything, Zhou Jian stood in front of the youth and glared at the woman. Zhou Jian had stayed quiet during the whole exchange, however, this was only due to his growing doubt at the truth behind the accident. His mind had recalled all the details the boy had revealed before he realized that it was not such a simple event as Chen Xiang portrayed.

After picking up the hidden meanings behind the boy's statement, he came to the conclusion that Ming Yi was probably a backstabber and the reason why his beloved was almost devoured.

Ming Yi felt her knees go soft as she felt suffocated by the overwhelming pressure the man produced. Her mouth opened and closed multiple times as her mind raced to come up with who knows what. In the end, her body could no long bear the oppression and she mumbled an apology before leaving as if her life depended on it.

[ Indeed, that man is still in love with me. It seems like my mission will be even easier in this world. ]

Chen Xiang hid his evil grin behind his sleeve as his eyes slightly watered. It seemed as if the boy was hurt by the woman's insults, if he wasn't already hurt enough by her betrayal that is. Noticing, Zhou Jian hurried to sweetly comfort the boy.

Once the youth was okay, the general walked Chen Xiang back to his living quarters. The transmigrator had been given a room right beside Zhou Jian by the man's request the day he arrived at the base.
