Mei Deng was far too focused in the tent set up at the edge of the camp, to even pay the commotion outside, a dime of his attention.
The scent of burning charcoal made him wipe the tears gathered in his eyes, he backed away from his patient, and stepped outside the tent. Where a young maid sat beside some burning coals, fanning it meticulously.
"Is it hot enough?" She asked, noticing Mei Deng's shadow casted over her.
"Not enough." He told her, "in order for this to work, it has to become even hotter." He replied, picking up a fan to assist her.
"Why do we need hot coals? Won't the madam..."
"We need them fully activated by the time they go down her throat to swallow up all the poison." He explained, with serious eyes.
The maid's jaw fell completely, "Did you just say Swallow?!"
