Chapter 73

Flame realized that the other angels had been right. Nuriel truly was overprotective.

They had a chance to ensure that Phoenix's plan failed yet he was unwilling to go ahead with it because he was afraid of her getting hurt.

All he had to do was mark her, simple. They could have even done it in the council room and completed it in no time.

But no...she was too fragile in his eyes.

Grunting for what felt like the hundredth time, she turned on her heel and headed outside. Barin and some four other warriors followed closely behind her, and at the moment, they only served as proof that everyone thought she was incapable of taking care of herself.

Kael had been right! She forced herself to believe, she was not defenseless.

The only problem was that she didn't know what to do with her power.

" Are you okay? " Andres moved next to her and asked.

She had actually interacted with him a little. He had been tasked with watching over her and she had been glad to realize that he was actually rather nice company.

It was obvious that he still hurt from his sister's death but he was trying to move on from that.

" Yeah, it's just that everyone keeps saying I'm this strong and powerful fairy with immense power but I don't know how to be that!" she blurted out. Then she apologized immediately after.

" I shouldn't be dumping all my stress on you, "

" It's okay. I'm here to help you however you may need. "

She smiled and thanked him. He really was sweet, but in the serious and professional way. Not flirtingly.

" Once they were outside she placed her hands on her waist and narrowed her gaze, trying to think of a something she could do to unleash her potential as the others had said. But nothing came to mind.

Had Rylan been around she would have gone and asked him for help,he had assisted her before and that had worked out just fine.

        Believe, daughter of mine

         You simply must believe...

That voice in her head returned. Aurelia, she thought. And she wished that the female could just tell her everything clearly instead of going round in circles. They didn't have time to try and solve riddles.

Barin positioned the three other warriors but then he asked Andres to stay by Flame's side.

" I'll be within sight, don't worry about anything, " the angel said before he flew up.

Flame hardly even heard him, she was back to thinking and rummaging through her mind for ideas.

" I'm gonna light up, don't get spooked or anything, " she weakly told the warriors, then she closed her eyes and summoned the fire. She had gotten much better at that part. Could now do it with ease.

" Okay, so now what? " she asked herself. She could summon it, and she could also make fire go away...that was all.

You don't summon the flames child, you are the flames...

Aurelia once again. She thought about the words. But still they didn't seem to help. She ew out a defeated breath and returned to normal, the warriors were all looking at her like she wasn't real. They seemed greatly amazed, but she felt the exact opposite.

That night Nuriel had returned to their chambers well past midnight. Flame had still been awake. But they were currently not on speaking terms. Nuriel knew that she was accusing him of caring too much, the mere implication was absurd...the entire thing was just crazy as far as he was concerned.

And had it not been for Aziel then they wouldn't have been in that situation. He passed by Flame who turned to look at him and headed towards the washroom. He wanted to quickly freshen up before he left again and continued with his duties. After he showered and changed into other clothes he went over to the bed and kissed Flame's forehead.

" Try to get some rest m'eudail, ,"

There were guards outside his chambers and He could scent Barin nearby, but he was still worried. He wanted to head out but then Flame held his hand and pulled him closer to her. She pushed the covers aside and he noticed the short silk piece she had on. Then he looked up at her and saw determination on her face.

He wanted to talk but she kissed him before he got the chance to do so. And as usual, his senses began to flee...she wrapped her arms around him and held on tight, restricting him from moving. And for a while he was lost in the passion, in the pleasure she was so freely giving. He reached underneath the silk and found her wet and wanting. But then he forced himself to pull away, one of the hardest things he had ever had to do.

" What are you doing? " There was a bit of an accusatory tone on his voice. He arched a brow at Flame and captured both her wrists when she wanted to pull him back to her.

" Flame?"

" What? I'm not doing anything!"

With glowing silver eyes he pinned her hands above her and shook his head.

" I'm not going to mark you, "

" You're being completely unreasonable! "

She looked pissed all of a sudden. And the entirety of the situation surprised him, his mate, the same one he had had to woo into loving him, was offering herself to him and he was turning her down.

But he was doing so for her.

" Christ! Nothing will happen! "

" We don't know that for certain. "

She tried to pull her hands from his hold with limited success.

And when that didn't work, when wrapped her legs around him as tight as she could.

" M'eudail.."

" I swear to you if you don't mark me tonight you can forget about that matter completely. "

" You're overreacting, "

She slowly started grinding herself against him and he muttered a curse. She was slowly driving him insane. But he didn't allow himself to lose control. Everything he was doing was for her own good. It didn't matter what anyone else said, he was going to do what he had to inorder to keep her safe.

Letting go of her wrists he tried to get her to let go of him.

She wouldn't.

And he had told his brothers that he wouldn't take long. The shower had been something he had told them inorder to avoid anymore unnecessary drama, while in truth he had really just needed to see Flame again. Was there a possibility that he truly did care too much? Yes.

Did he care? Absolutely not.

" Let go m'eudail, "

" No. "

Was she being serious? He was a powerful immortal who was fully capable of freeing himself from the cage that was her lean legs. But he didn't want to do so and risk hurting her in any way.

" Let. go," he repeated. Trying his best to sound as serious as he could. But her resistance only served to turn him on and she could clearly see that since his eyes wouldn't let him keep it a secret.

With her now free hands she reached for the neckline of his armour and pulled him down for another hungry kiss. He turned his head to the side and she ended up kissing his cheek instead.

" Seriously?" she asked and he sensed the anger she tried to hide.

" I love you, you know that, buy-"

" But what? " she sort of shouted at him. And he watched as the soft amber of her eyes began to slowly change as well. Humming to life. It transformed into that astonishingly beautiful orange around the iris magic that he had seen only once before. This time though, even the glow seemed more fierce.

" I'm not freaking glass!" she shouted this time. He wanted to stand but then her legs were firmer than ever around his waist.

" Calm down, "

" Do not tell me to calm down!"

Goodness, Nuriel thought, off all the days she could have chosen to pick a fight with him. He understood where she was coming from but still...

He placed his hands on her bare shoulder and realized just how warm she was.

And not in the natural way. She was warm in the same way a hot pot would he after you placed it in the fire for a while. Like she had a severe fever or something. And he knew that it was probably a side effect of her anger but he still couldn't help but worry.

" Are you feeling okay, you're burning up!"

" Jeez! Angel are you even listening to me?"

Flame loosened her hold on him and sat up on her heels. She was perfectly okay, all she needed was for her mate to pin her to the bed and mark her.

She closed her eyes and grunted, then she got off the bed and crossed her arms. Realizing that she was already aflame by then and not even caring.
