Chapter 59

" I hope so, it's not safe for the beings to be out in the open like this. " Kael reasoned. Then he took a minute to apologize for what had happened at the fort, assuring her that he had no idea the moon berries would have the effect they had on her. She promised him that it was fine and he rose into the air. But he came down immediately after and pleaded with her to try and stop the fire one last time.

" Come on, I really believe that you can do it. Otherwise what's the point of your ability.."

" Kael, I've already tried - "

" One last time, just shout the word stop at the very top of your lungs. "

She refused. Convinced that the only thing she would gain from that was making herself look like an idiot. But then Kael flew up and balanced himself in the air.

" Then pretend it's me you're shouting at. " he loudly said, having read her mind and heard what her fear was. She shook her head. But gave in when he insisted. So she blew out a long breath and closed her eyes. Then facing the fire, she did just as Kael had asked of her. She shouted at the very top of her lungs. And the only thing she heard after that were countless gasps of astonishment followed by a bone chilling silence. And when she opened her eyes, her reaction was the same.

" I'm a bloody genius! " Kael excitedly said as he laughed in the air. Then he landed down next to Flame and held her by both her shoulders.

" I don't mean to rub it in but hey..... I told you so! " he said, but Flame was still trying to wrap her head around what had just happened.

" Did you just do that? " Barin asked as he landed next to Flame.

" I... think so.. "

" What do you mean you think so? of course you did! With help and guidance from me of course, " Kael informed Barin. And the brown haired angel was about to respond when he both he and Kael got linked by Nuriel.

" It's a trap! The fire is just a ruse to get the beings out in the open. Get them all to safety now! "

The smile on Kael's face disappeared and he held Flame's arm and led her away. She asked them what was going on and Barin quickly explained in as few words as he could.

All the other angels had gotten the message and had already gotten to work.

" Get inside! "

" All of you, out of the street now! "

" Hurry up... but be try to be orderly. Don't trip and step on each other! "

She heard them all bark out the orders.

" Zarek, take Flame home. " Nuriel sent out to the angel.

He did not in the slightest like the idea of her flying in the arms of another male but at the moment he had no choice. Because judging by the condition of the male that Kalen had followed , the enemy was close by. And he needed to make sure that Flame was safe from danger.

" I will Sire, " Zarek sent back and Nuriel asked him to stay with her at the Triecan until he returned. Then he went back to trying to ask the affected male whether he recalled anything. He was safe and nothing bad had happened to him, but according to him, he had no clue how he had gotten to where he was Kalen had stopped him on his tracks and he had simply stared at the angel with unfeeling eyes. Then he had lost consciousness immediately after.

Which meant that they had to be more careful since the being they were dealing with was clearly more powerful than they had assumed.

                               💮🌼💮🌼💮🌼

Nuriel got back home after dark. And he headed straight to the main living space where Zarek had told him he and Flame were. He had learnt of what had occurred with the fire. Kael had not wasted a second in breaking the news. Something about him helping Flame unleash her inner potential. And he wished to thank her.

But most of all, he wished to apologise for what had happened before they had left the house.

It had been in his mind throughout the entire day. Even with the distraction from everything else going on, he had not been able to stop thinking about it. To stop thinking about her.

And it hurt him tremendously to know that she was upset with him. When she had seen the male she had known had been in trouble, she had gone and told Kalen instead of him. Which meant that she had been serious about not talking to him until he was willing to share with her the contents of his troubling dream.

That was something he was not willing to accept. So he would everything in his power to fix it. Even if it meant reliving a past that he had strived to hard to forget. He got to the entrance of the living space and stopped to look inside. The room was nicely furnished. With comfortable and priceless seats and the loveliest pieces of both art and decorative pieces. Like a golden nightstand placed against the wall. It was clearly a perfect masterpiece.

But it was she that captured his attention.

It did not matter how many times he saw her, he would always be affected by the sight of her. She was currently seated on the pristine white woolen carpet with her legs crossed. Playing with Ziek, Zarek's pet and trusted ally. He watched as she fed the Zentok an apple, a delighted look on her face. And at the same time she was conversing with Zarek who seated on one of the seats slicing another apple with his dagger and eating the carefully cut pieces.

The room smelt like him. Swirls of forest lillies tinged with a hint of rigid oak.

Whatever they were talking about clearly amused Flame. She would laugh every now and then. Occasionally taking a piece of the apple offered by Zarek. He grew curious. But mostly he was just jealous.

A very awful feeling that made him want to tackle Zarek to the ground for no particular reason. And he could not help but listen in on their conversation.

" .....So what you're saying is that if I take your blood back to earth and have it scientifically manufactured into a type of drug, it would be able to cure any illness? " he heard Flame ask as she looked up at Zarek with a questioning look. It seemed as if she were challenging him.

" Precisely. But if my knowledge serves me right, the main disease that humans surfer from is mere selfishness. And I'm afraid that no type of angelic blood can cure that. "

" Not all humans are bad, just a selected number of them. I mean, I'm not selfish and I grew up there. "

" But you're not a human. At least not in terms of genetics, because like I told you, it's not every time that the environment affects someone's character. It doesn't necessarily have to do - " Flame covered her ears with her hands and shook her head. Then she put out her hand towards Zarek to stop him.

"Yeah yeah, I get it. Gosh! You're like some science geek! "

Nuriel watched as the two of them laughed. And he decided that was enough Zarek for a day, so he made his presence known and walked into the room. Flame turned to him, and he noticed it as the smile she was wearing disappeared and she pretty much acted as if she had not seen him. Going back to feeding and petting Ziek.

" Did you manage to find anything? " Zarek asked as he stood. Pushing his single white lock of hair back to rest along with the dark mass.

" No Nothing, but we closed every entryway into the towns and I stationed warriors at each one just in case the killer decides to leave. "

" I see, well then I guess my work here is done. I'll leave you two. " Zarek said preparing to walk out.

Flame stood along with Ziek who had been lying on the floor. And Nuriel watched as she kissed Zarek goodnight on the cheek. His hands fisted and his eyes narrowed in a most threatening way. And Zarek noticed the changes very clearly.

He cleared his throat afterwards and beckoned for Ziek to follow him, even though the creature was clearly reluctant to leave Flame's side.

" Come on now Ziek, don't be stubborn. I might even let you sleep at the edge of my bed today. "

As if understanding him, the Zentok sprung up and ran towards Zarek. Then it followed him out of the living space and Flame heard Zarek's laugh in the distance as he said " Don't get too excited, I said I MIGHT let you sleep on the bed. First you'll have to beat me there! " and then she heard their quick footsteps as they disappeared into the distance.
