"Buzz, buzz, buzz."
The phone made an annoying buzzing sound, disturbing the peaceful atmosphere.
But it wasn't the phone's fault; the issue lay with Dekomori Sanae's choice of ringtone.
Sitting upright at her desk, she was completely absorbed in reading a pitch-black sheepskin book. She cast a cautious glance at her phone.
"An unfamiliar number?"
Sanae didn't have many friends, and not many people would call her. Seeing an unknown phone number made her feel a bit wary.
"Could it be?" she wondered aloud, her mind racing with possibilities. "Is it a call from the Superpowers Management Bureau? Or maybe a manifestation of the Gaia Consciousness of the Great Universe?"
Her imagination running wild, she swiftly pushed the phone away in defiance. "You wretched administrators! I, the mighty wielder of the Mjolnir Hammer, will never succumb to your intimidation! The path of the Dark Scriptures is my true destiny!"
The noisy electric sound continued to grate on Sanae's ears, causing her to shake her head in annoyance. She quickly returned her focus to studying the 'Dark Scriptures.'
Hayama, on the other hand, felt a sense of surprise. "She didn't even answer the phone? Is that idiot up to something weird again?"
After a moment of contemplation, he let out a sigh. He realized that Sanae was known for her foolish antics, and it wasn't worth investing too much of his attention on her. But...
The phone buzzed again, disrupting the tranquility around her.
Sanae, her annoyance evident, lifted her head slowly and cast a disdainful glance at her phone. "Ugh, it's that same number again! The Superpowers Management Bureau just won't give up, huh?"
She pondered for a moment, contemplating whether or not to answer the call. "Maybe I should give them a taste of my powers. Show them that the Great Mjolnir Hammer Wielder won't stoop down to their level!"
However, before she could make a decision, the call abruptly ended on its own.
Hayama's expression turned sour. Now it was certain that Sanae was up to something weird!
Even though Sanae wasn't as obsessed with her phone as Kato, she usually kept it with her. She even had a habit of bringing it along when taking a bath, where she would occasionally indulge in posting some nonsensical comments on chuunibyou forums.
"Call her again, and if she doesn't answer, just head straight to her place!"
He dialed the number once more, and this time Sanae answered quickly. "You idiots from the Superpowers Management Bureau! I, the Great Mjolnir Hammer Wielder, will never stoop to joining your foolish organization! Quit bothering me with your calls! Otherwise, prepare yourselves for the wrath of my thunderous fury, death!"
Hayama was left stunned, listening to Sanae's cringy response.
So, this is the roleplay that Eriri mentioned, huh? Well, it's not quite as cool as the Death Bringer!
"Death Bringer, have you forsaken your glory and forgotten your supreme mission?" Hayama lowered his voice and uttered a line that was embarrassing enough to make his face turn red. Luckily, the apartment he rented had good soundproofing, so at least he didn't have to worry about Utaha from the neighboring room overhearing.
Sanae froze, as if a lightning bolt had struck her. Her body became completely still, and her hand, gripping the phone, involuntarily loosened its grip, causing the device to slip from her grasp and fall to the floor.
Luckily, she had chosen a high-quality phone, so it endured the impact without any damage. However, Hayama's ears weren't as fortunate, as a sharp sound of collision and friction reached him, nearly causing him to drop his own phone in response.
"What is she doing? Is she smashing the table?"
After about thirty seconds, Sanae cautiously picked up the phone, her voice trembling slightly as she spoke, "Hay, Hay, Hayama, the Great Demon King!"
"Have you finally remembered, Death Bringer?"
"I-I-I am not the Death Bringer! I am the Wielder of the Mjolnir Hammer! The one who inherits the forces of nature, the master of the skies, and the embodiment of thunder, death!"
She added, "Hayama, the Great Demon King, I have seen through your conspiracy. You want to manipulate my thoughts, make me your servant, and then invade this world! Hayama, the Great Demon King, your scheme will not succeed. I shall fulfill my duty and stop your invasion, death!"
Sanae's voice grew louder, but luckily Hayama quickly lowered the volume to avoid being startled by her booming voice.
"This girl really knows how to make a scene."
He understood Sanae's behavior. After all, she didn't have many friends, and when someone has too much free time, they tend to overthink things. But Sanae took it to another level by completely abandoning her identity as the Death Bringer and creating a whole new persona as a wielder of the Mjolnir Hammer. It was giving him a bit of a headache.
'If she's supposed to keep an eye on Eriri, she better listen up and follow orders! Yep, she can only be the Death Bringer!'
He said, "Oh? Death Bringer, have you succumbed to the cosmic consciousness of this world? It's truly unfortunate. Is your true essence being overshadowed by this overwhelming awareness? The Gaia consciousness of this world can indeed be troublesome; it has subtly shaped your behavior in various ways. However, Death Bringer, always remember that our journey spans countless realms across the multiverse!"
"Oh, that's so cool!"
She quickly shook her head, saying, "No, I can't allow Hayama, the Great Demon King, to influence me. I am the wielder of the Mjolnir Hammer, not the Death Bringer. Although, the Death Bringer does seem somewhat cooler... death..."
She added, "Ugh, Hayama, the Great Demon King, you always manage to mess with my thoughts! I won't ever yield to you, death! I possess the ultimate secret of the world, the 'Dark Scripture.' I'll discover a means to defeat you, death!"
"Tonight at 8 p.m., I'll be waiting for you at the Tropic Cancer Café. It's there that your true identity shall be revealed!"
The sound of a phone's "beep beep beep" resonated, causing Sanae's heart to race.
"Damn you, Hayama, the Great Demon King, trying to confuse my heart!"
"It's been forever since we last met, and he's gotten even stronger. He can actually mess with my feelings from a distance!"
"I-I, as the one who wields the Mjolnir Hammer, will never back down, death!"
...
A small girl stepped into the café, her eyes scanning the surroundings.
Hayama sat on the second floor, quietly observing the girl downstairs. "That hairstyle, it's definitely Sanae!"
"Hayama, the Great Demon King? You mean Mr. Hayama, right? He's on the second floor, just there. Can you see him?"
Sanae's gaze turned towards Hayama, and he smiled and waved at her. "Come on up."
Before long, Sanae took a seat opposite Hayama. "Summoning me at this hour, Hayama, the Great Demon King. What sort of devious plans and tricks do you have in store? Let's see what you've got, death!"
"Death Bringer, it seems you have forgotten my authority." He smiled and gently stirred his milk coffee.
"The sacred, pure holy water! Hayama, the Great Demon King, you really overestimate yourself! After drinking that divine elixir, your strength must have greatly weakened. Bring it on, Hayama, the Great Demon King! I will defeat you! Behold my Mjolnir Hammer Typhoon!"
Sanae twirled her twin ponytails, transforming them into meteor hammers, and launched an attack at him.
"Oh? Not bad, you've definitely improved compared to Eriri." Hayama reclined in his seat, taking a sip of his coffee. Suddenly, he extended his right hand, swiftly grabbing hold of her twin ponytails and giving them a gentle tug.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch!"
"But, against me, this move is useless."
He weighed the two "hammerheads" in his hand, then his fingers slipped into Sanae's pocket, retrieving a square-shaped candy. "Thanks for the treat."
"My, my Fate Blocks..."
He deftly unwrapped the candy and popped it into his mouth. "Mmm, delicious. Bring me more next time."
"Oh no, Hayama, the Great Demon King has grown even more powerful. He devoured the ingredients for the Mjolnir Hammer! Mori-sama, I never intended to become the Death Bringer. Forgive me, death!"
"Hayama-dono, Death shall abide by your noble will, death."
