Taking the file from her, Aiden stepped closer, his movements smooth and measured. Serena took a step back instinctively, watching him carefully, unsure of his intentions. But he kept coming closer, forcing her back with each step until she found herself pressed against her desk. Her heart pounded, a mix of confusion and something else she didn't want to acknowledge.
"What… what are you doing?" she managed, her voice a bit unsteady.
He leaned in, his face close enough that she could see the faint smile playing on his lips. "Shh," he murmured softly, his gaze intense as he spoke her name. "Serena."
Her breath caught. She hadn't heard her name said that way in a long time, and something in her heart twisted at the sound. Almost involuntarily, she found herself responding in a voice she barely recognized, low and barely audible. "Aiden."
