I Promise I Won't

Demyan

"Daddy," Eli had been tugging on my trousers for five minutes as we stood in the queue for both of them to get a quick ice cream cone. I had ignored him the first time as he had been staring at the fountain with playing children inside. I already knew what was on his mind.

"Eli, stop," I took his hand in mine but he continued to tug with the second. Lia had been attempting to braid my hair and constantly tugged then let out a loud laugh when I hissed in pain.

"Daddy, the leash please. Take it off," he pleaded.

"You always run away so no," I looked up to see if the queue was moving at all. Eli was becoming restless and that was a recipe for disaster.

"I promise I won't," he whimpered and hugged my leg, "Daddy, please it's too hot."

"You promise Eli or I'm going to tell Mummy and she won't be happy." I knew the threat would hopefully make him listen.

He nodded, "I promise Daddy. I cross my heart."
