"It's…concerning, I'll admit that. But it's not definitive proof of anything. For all we know, Vanessa could have sent this to manipulate Caroline, to make her doubt herself or us." 

 

"Then why hasn't she said anything?" I countered him, my voice rising. "If she's innocent, why hide this? Why not tell us about it?" 

 

Michael stood and placed a calming hand on my shoulder. "Let's talk to her. Together. If there's an explanation, we'll hear it. And if there isn't…" His voice trailed off, the unspoken words hanging heavy in the air.
