Why

Josh hit the concrete at the base of the school with a loud thud that resonated through the darkness of the night. "???" Josh opened his eyes to see the dark clouds above him pestering him with the downpour. "Why" Josh thought as he realized that he was still alive, and not only just alive but uninjured.

[Simple, you aren't allowed to die right now] a voice resonated directly into Josh's mind.

"What... wait what. What are you!?" Josh said out loud

[Hmm, it's kind of complicated. You can call me your savior, or your system I suppose. Basically I am an embodiment of all the good things that were supposed to happen to you but didn't. God accidentally placed you in the body of an sad poor peasant in the 14th district while you were supposed to be royalty of the 1st district. He swapped you and this peasant by accident and it is too late to fix it at this point in time. He figured that assigning me to you will help make up for that mistake. I have 3 primary functions along with functions unlockable through completing tasks. My first function is mind reading and mental stability support, mind reading gives you the ability to peer into someones thoughts to determine what it is they are currently thinking. If they are thinking of a scene you will be transported into said scene. Mental stability support will prevent you from becoming too stressed or depressed, as well as keeping you calm under pressure. My second function is the ability to see into the future although it will take a lot of energy depending on how far you want to go, as well as being able to sense danger and predict future problems. My third and final function is increasing your current state in terms of intelligence, strength, charisma, looks, etc. All these abilities also upgrade themselves while you use them, for example. If you run everyday your speed and endurance will increase themselves automatically, it would do the same naturally but you progress a lot quicker through the system.]

"But what is the point, everything I care about is dead or doesn't care about me" Josh pointed out

"Jeez, harsh"

"Ok, so let me get this straight. I can see into the future, read minds, and I have inhuman abilities to train myself?"

"Well that's great and all, but I am still homeless and have no place to go. Even if I have all these abilities, I am still out here suffering in the rain."

- Don't get hypothermia and die

- Make it to school on time in the morning

"Lovely, that really helps a lot" Josh thought sarcastically. Josh finally got off the concrete and looked around for any possible shelter. Josh searched for a solid shelter for a good time up until 1 in the morning. Finally he found a densely leaved tree that protected against the rain, he decided to hole up there for the rest of the morning until he had to go to school. He tried to sleep but couldn't really manage, he couldn't manage to get comfortable in the tree as he expected. He managed to have short intervals in which he fell asleep, but he always woke up soon after. He looked at his phone, dead. "Great" he thought to himself, he had no idea what time it was so he started heading over to the school once he saw the sun begin to rise, It's not like he could sleep anyway and it stopped raining a while ago.

He arrived at the school with plenty of time to spare, it was 6:30 and school started at 7:15. He sighed in relief. He heard a friendly ping once he had arrived and he noticed the system had notified him that he completed objective 1.

He was in shock, he had no idea that he could receive these kinds of rewards for something so simple. He figured there would be some kind of reward at the end and wasn't surprised when he saw the Inner warmth ability as he figured he would get something along those lines, but he had no idea that he could receive monetary compensation as well. "Where does the money go?" Josh asked the system

[The cash will be received in your hands as soon as you claim it, just say "Claim objective 1 rewards" and it will be materialized in front of you.]

"Claim objective 1 rewards" Josh thought and sure enough in his open hand 100$ materialized out of nowhere. He quickly put it in his empty wallet, he was completely dumbfounded like everything he has learned up until now has been a lie. He thought of all the possibilities with his newfound power.

"System, what is my next objective?"

[It is still being determined at the moment, when a new objective is set you will be notified.]

Josh was a little bit disappointed but understood and went to his classes. Quinton picked on him during lunch as per usual. Josh endured to the end of the day, after all he had no way of fighting back at this point. Quinton had his group of jock friends that picked on him every day incessantly without fail. "I gotta do something about this before anything else" Josh thought, at the same time he was pinged by the system.
