In the slums, the worst of the worst had been living here for eons. There is no law here and there was no force to enforce the law of this country in this Outland.
The slum had only one rule and that was to be eaten or eat the others despite the origin of yourself. However, there was still good in this forsaken land, showing the path to those who had lost their ways.
" Father, aren't you tired? I have fetched some fresh water from the upper river. It should be fresh."
The young boy said while handing a bucket filled with icy cold water. He was drenched in sweat, basking in the sunlight for many minutes to get water from the area that was enclosed from the outside. As a child who grew up in the slum, it was easy to hop over those scary-looking fences without any problem.
The old man who was wearing black and white, patted his head with kindness while handing the cup of water to him. He didn't blame or wrong him for his behavior because there was no unjust in his actions. In the slums, it was hard to find clean water due to the waste management and drainage system of the capital. Therefore most people seek clean water from the outside, just to live in this place. They almost spend all of their savings to drink and eat safely in this poison district.
" Yeager, my son. God forbade us from stealing, but that doesn't mean we should drink toxic. Your actions were right and kind because you stole nothing."
The father praised his actions in front of the children to encourage their rights actions even if it was illegal. All things must be kind to each other to his recognition, whether they were rich or poor. Therefore, sharing was caring.
The boy wiped his sweat while gulping the water with a slight happiness in his heart because his father used to beat him whenever he brought the water to him. He carefully looked around the children while drinking the water to check on them since he was one of the eldest children in the house.
He saw the young frail girl who was filled with burning eyes despite her disability. Her legs were no longer able to move, hence she was abandoned in the street before her father had found her.
" Yvonne, drink this. Big bro will fetch more water from the river. You have to be healthy because you are the weakest of all. Even, George is stronger than you."
He said while pointing to the toddler who was in the arms of the young couple. The couple laughed at his words, seemingly amused by his humor.
" I got it, big brother. Father said that I need to grow up in order to be a great nun. He said he would personally recommend me to the church of Light."
Yvonne smiled, thinking about her future. She wanted to be a nun like the father who would help others for no reason. Many people adored him as they worshipped him even though the church of Light wasn't prominent as before. His sheer kindness moved the hearts of the poor people.
" Hoho, it is great to see my children grow up so quickly. By the way, what is with this little one?"
The father said, playing with the toddler with an adoring look. Honestly, he was weak to the charm of the children because he believed they were the most innocent creatures in this sinful world.
" Father, I am very sorry. We had to leave him for our work. You know we are working hard to move away."
The father of the toddler apologized with a guilty look due to his debt to the priest. He was one of the first children that he was brought up and raised by him in this dark time. Moreover, his wife was also one of his children.
" Don't worry about him. You can do your job calmly. I have many helpers."
He spoke, fixing his glasses with a gentle expression. Although he was tired recently, he never refused to take care of others with kindness and compassion.
