You Can't Attend

Over the next month as the investigation continued it unearthed that many humans had gone missing in that particular bar and the remains of a few were found buried in cold storage located inside the bar.

This resulted in the launch of a massive operation to check all bars, hotels, restaurants and other places in Fritez City. Although they were regularly inspected sometimes police officers took bribes to look the other way. It wasn't going to be the case now, a few more shabby bars and hotels were sealed and vampires working there were apprehended.

There was always a bit of unrest among the vampire community in the way Xiran ran things. Not everyone agreed with his views and ideals including his own family. But he was his own man, his city his rules. The killing of 5 vampires by some unknown creature didn't go unnoticed by high-ranking vampires. So Mazitine asked Xiran to address the situation by calling them to Fritez City and holding a meeting. After the meeting, they will throw a lavish party which will take their mind off this incident and it will soon be forgotten. Xiran was famous for his parties, for he always made sure all his guests had a memorable time.

The party meant that he will have to invite his brother over, whom he loathed. But he didn't have a choice so he agreed and arrangements started. The party was to be held in the main hall of the hotel instead of the dungeon one, which was located on the first floor. The theme was magic and the colour scheme was chosen to be Royal Purple. Professionals were hired to take charge of all the arrangements. Xiran made sure no tables were left unturned for this party.

Aselia was excited that finally, she was about to make progress on her mission. A day before the party Xiran received a call. His expression became severe and he felt chills just looking at the caller ID. He received the call undesirably.

"Xiran," a hoarse voice called his name.

"Yes," Xiran spoke with disgust.

"I will be attending your party tomorrow. Wanted to give you a heads-up. Make sure everything is arranged according to my wishes. I will be bringing company and will stay the night at your hotel. Don't disappoint me." The voice on the other hand played on the edge of threats. Xiran wanted to tell him to fuck off but he couldn't.

"I will," Xiran replied between gritted teeth.

"Good, can't wait to see you tomorrow." The call ended, leaving Xiran in a bit of a daze. This changes everything, he can't let Aselia attend the party. She will not take this decision lightly but he had to keep her safe. It was already night when he went to Aselia's room. She was laying on her bed watching TV and munching on some popcorn from a large bowl in front of her. Excitement was written all over her face as the action of the movie unfolded in front of her eyes.

Xiran went ahead and sat down near her on the bed. "Popcorn?" She offered him the bowl. He took a handful and tossed them in his mouth. Her whole focus was on the movie so he let her watch it. After the movie ended, he spoke: "Aselia, I want to talk to you."

"Yes," she replied getting down from the bed and putting away the empty popcorn bowl.

"Come here, sit with me." She went and sat beside him. "I know I promised you that I will let you attend this party but there are some people whom I would rather want never lay their eyes on you. I can't let you attend tomorrow's party." He told her gently.

"Are you being serious right now? Because that's not funny. You promised me." She had a hint of anger in her voice.

"I am serious, there will be a lot of parties. I will let you attend the next one we hold. I promise."

"I can't fucking believe you right now. How can you break your promise? You lecture me and punish me for lying. What are you doing right now?" Her face was flushed as she shouted at him. He tried to take her hand but she got up and moved away from him.

"I swear I will make it up to you." Xiran tried to remain as calm as possible with her.

"Make it up to me? I don't think you ever wanted to keep your promise. You just used me to fulfil your desires. You are a fu*cking as*hole." The hurt in her eyes was evident, not only was she not getting anywhere near to completing her mission and revenge but she also felt betrayed by him. He had always kept his promises so far and she was sure she will get a glimpse of the vampire they sought and notify the headquarters. They will tail and capture him. But all her plans were about to go down the drain. She knew the security would be so tight that they wouldn't be able to infiltrate the party from outside. Besides no one else knew what he looked like except her.

"Aselia...you know that's not true. I can't even dream of using you." Her words had punctured a hole in his heart. The hate in her eyes was abundant to break him down.

"You are a fu*king liar, Xiran. I was right to not trust your kind." Her whole frame was shaking and all Xiran wanted to do was hug her and calm her down. But he knew he would make things worse if he tried to touch her in this state. He could hear her alleviated heartbeat and see her ears had turned red due to the anger and frustration he had caused her.

"Calm down, please. This is for your own good, not all vampires are like me. Your scent will hit them like a hurricane and they will want to extract every last drop of your blood. I can't comprehend why you crave such dangers." His eyes looking for any flicker of sense in hers. All he wanted to do was shield her from the ruthless world they lived in. Why was she so adamant to seek danger?

"Xiran, leave. I don't want to be near you right now." Her words were hurting him more than he had imagined they would. No one had ever dismissed him like that other than his parents. And yet he wasn't angry at her just sad. He wanted to move but all his strength seemed to have been drained by her hurtful words.

"LEAVE," she had turned her face away from him so he wouldn't be able to make eye contact with her. He slowly got up and stopped near her, although he wanted to hold her hand he restrained himself.

"Hurting you was not my intent, I hope you could see past that. Frila will stay with you today and tomorrow so you don't try to sneak in again. You are too precious to me, I can't let anyone else lay a finger on you. I wish you would realize that." He left after these words, locking the door behind him.
