"We wanted to inform you, that is, Professor Thomas wanted me to inform you, that we have decided to pass you in some of your fighting classes without you having to take the exams."
Professor Iris had expected Aria to smile, or show any form of happiness, so she was quite surprised to see her frown. "I'm passing without giving exams?" she asked.
Professor Iris nodded, "Professor Thomas proposed it. He said that you fighting the night-warriors was the biggest proof that any of us could want of your ability. And seeing as you would be in no condition to fight when the fights will take place, we all agreed that it was the right decision."
Aria bowed her head in silence after Professor Iris finished. She looked up after a few minutes and spoke, "I am afraid I cannot accept that."
Professor Iris frowned, "Pardon?" she asked. Aria only shrugged as she said, "I cannot accept it as I never fought for it. I will be in no condition to fight, that was my fault. And as for you all taking me fighting the night-warriors as a proof of my ability, I lost myself to rage when I fought that battle, so it was not a real demonstration of my ability." "So, I am very flattered, but I must decline. I'm very sorry." Aria added.
Professor Iris was a little taken aback upon hearing this. She knew that Aria would be disappointed that she didn't get to fight, but she could never have fathomed that she would decline the proposal.
Aria remained firm and didn't budge from her decision. Finally, Professor Iris sighed. "As you wish then. You can take the exams at your own pace once you are discharged." she said.
Aria's face lit up with a smile as she nodded upon hearing this.
Professor Iris shook her head as she stood up. "I'll let you rest then. Goodnight, Miss Aria." she said, turning to leave. And she was gone even before Aria had time to reply.
Aria spent the next couple of hours once again talking to all the people who came to visit her.
Helen came just before dinner time and Jacob arrived right after dinner. Aria noticed the tension and the loneliness on their faces, but she chose not to talk about it. She had to first address someone else who was acting even more weird.
By the time it was bed time and all the lights in the recovery ward were closed, Aria was dead tired and ready for bed once again. But she forced herself awake and waited for half an hour to make sure Miss Anhao would not hear her. Once the coast was clear, Aria spoke out. "I swear Joseph, you are getting weirder by the day." she said.
